The good thing about dryer adoption in Europe being so low, is that for those that do have a tumble dryer, tend to have a heat pump tumble dryer. There are far more heat pump models than the other type. Even condenser beat vented. Condenser dryers are also cheaper than vented ones

So glad these aren't too common here. Barely anyone has a vented dryer especially if they're renting due to landlords saying no as trapped lint is a fire risk I'm basing this On EPC figures. - A C rated vented appliance like this one uses 5.02 kWh per cycle. The cheapest one ( Indesit) costs £259 to buy - A B rated condenser appliance uses 4.21 kWh per cycle. The cheapest one is made by Electra which costs £229 to buy. A Beko costs £239 - An A+ heat pump appliance uses 2.2 kWh per cycle. The cheapest one (Indesit) costs £313 to buy - An A++ heat pump appliance uses 1.78 kWh per cycle. The cheapest one (Indesit) costs £314 to buy - An A+++ heat pump appliance uses 1.39 kWh per cycle. The cheapest one (Electra) costs £419 to buy. A Hotpoint costs £468 Indesit and Hotpoint are a part of the Whirlpool group Assuming 100 cycles a year (twice ish a week), and a cost of electricity at 25.3p/kWh, then : - The C rated one costs £127.006/year to run - The B rated one costs £106.513/year to run - The A+ rated one costs £55.66/year to run - The A++ rated one costs £45.034/year to run - The A+++ rated one costs £35.167/year to run Given the maths, it makes sense to at least get an A++ heat pump rated tumble dryer especially as it's only £1 more to buy than the A+ one. If it lasts more than a year, it's already cheaper than the cost to repair the vented one especially as you're more likely to use it 200 times a year rather than 100 times I've also had a B rated condenser and a heat pump. It added a mere 20 minutes to drying time (2 hours 30 in total) The idea for me is to run them during cheap TOU tariffs though, and I wfh 3/5 days anyway. As for myself, it's a four bed house and it's at least 4 lots of drying a week or 290 cycles For me, the maths works out at the following based on 25.3p/kWh - The C rated one costs £368.32/year to run - The B rated one costs £308.89/year to run - The A+ rated one costs £161.41/year to run - The A++ rated one costs £130.59/year to run - The A+++ rated one costs £101.98/year to run Using that I'd only need to have the heat pump one for a few months, before it's cheaper Though I intend on making use of a TOU tariff where it costs 6.9p/kWh to import energy and 16.5p/kWh to export it. I'd be a net exporter though that might be different if I had a C rated appliance . It's an arbitrage of 9.6p/kWh. I'd therefore base my losses on 9.6p/kWh - The C rated one costs £139.76/year to run - The B rated one costs £117.21/year to run - The A+ rated one costs £61.25/year to run - The A++ rated one costs £49.56/year to run - The A+++ rated one costs £38.41/year to run Even here, I'd break even in about a year even if you consider the ease of repair for the C rated vented one. No matter the usage, you'd be best off getting an A++ heat pump tumble dryer even when you consider repair costs. There's a reason why most people in the UK who do have a tumble dryer (which isn't that common) opt for a heat pump. It pays for itself in mere months.
@clapham93
Ай бұрын
Thanks for info and especially the calculations. Please could you advise us on how much the cost we've likely used within the last year. Bought a C grade Indesit dryer a year ago. With a big family we use it generally daily 1 hour slots x 2 washes. Big thanks.
@waqasahmed939
Ай бұрын
@@clapham93 At one cycle per day with a full load, and an average cost of 25.3p/kWh (price cap electricity price), the costs to run them are as follows: - A C rated vented appliance costs £463.57/year to run - A B rated condenser appliance costs £388.77/year to run - An A+ heat pump appliance costs £203.16/year to run - An A++ heat pump appliance costs £164.37/year to run - An A+++ heat pump appliance costs £128.36/year to run Personally if I were you, I'd get an A++ or A+++ tumble dryer. The A+++ one saves you a further £36/year over the A++ one or £360 over 10 years Given you're using yours daily, I think it's actually worth you getting the most efficient one that you can. The beauty with a heat pump tumble dryer or even a condenser one is that you can put it anywhere too. Sure it might look weird in a bedroom or in a living room but it's by the by when you consider the savings and tumble dryers look better in the living room than airers anyway imo. I'd personally also look for one that has sensor drying and reverse action. That helps save money too. The sensors detect how much load you've got in there and adjusts the time needed which saves money Reverse action = not as many tangles which means you don't have to put in clothes, twice due to tangles. It also means less creases which means clothes are easier to iron which saves money there too Heat pump dryers aren't well suited to uninsulated garages or cellars. The general wisdom is to never put them in a garage or cellar but if it's well insulated it doesn't matter. If your cellar / garage is warm in the winter and cool in the summer it's good for a heat pump tumble dryer. The best ambient temperature for heat pumps is 15-28C Also given I've got a tumble dryer, I've got myself a washing machine that runs at 1600rpm because the higher the spin cycle, the cheaper it is to dry clothes I'd also go for the largest drum size you can if you've got a large family for both the dryer and washing machine. When it comes to the washing machines, the ones that spin at 1600rpm are B and A rated. A B rated one would still be decent but you'd see little benefit in replacing your washing machine unless you absolutely have to. Replacing your tumble dryer for one that's far more efficient would save you a hell of an amount
@tammyjones7718
24 күн бұрын
That’s a lot of maths! My gas dryer cost $1000. No idea what it costs to operate, but clothes are usually dry in 30 minutes or less. King size comforters take a little longer since they get balled up and I have to untangle them to dry the inner sphere. I wish dryers didn’t tumble in a circle. It would be better if they just blew stuff around in a frenzy like 100 mini blow dryers pointed in every direction.

(Killed the last one) Apon examination I found enough lint that could be made into socks for every needy child in N.America. AC filter you ask? Hahahaha ha ha.
I am surprised there wasn't a fire.
Thats 30 years of kindling right there

I literally almost instantly sneezed looking at that lol
So satisfying!
How earth don’t these homes burn down with all this stuff stuck in the pipe work? Thank goodness we have washing lines in the good outdoors.

The good thing about dryer adoption in Europe being so low, is that for those that do have a tumble dryer, tend to have a heat pump tumble dryer. There are far more heat pump models than the other type. Even condenser beat vented. Condenser dryers are also cheaper than vented ones
It’s amazing their house didn’t burn down with that build up. Thanks for saving them.
Task from among us (2018): clean vents Me:
What machine are you using?

These people are allowed to live amongst us. You could be the most responsible person in the world living in an apartment & your next door neighbor might be a ticking house fire.

And to make matters worse, apartment complexes usually ignore this service! They usually find more value in things that are aesthetic, not taking care of the real issues.
Can you please tell me where you got the vacuum
I sneezed just watching this video
That was a fire waiting to happen…
So what the hell’s the point of the filter then
WHAT!! 😮 FIRE 🔥
I remember I worked at a spa and literally told them to make sure to tell everybody to clean the dryer lint trays AND ask maintenance to clean the vents…nobody listened. I was getting ready for work one morning and as soon as I was almost there, got a phone call from the manager saying there was a fire in the spa…
That is vaguely reminiscent of the colon cleanse VHS someone gave to my mom when I was a kid 😂
Lint and lint traps be trippin 😆 how they hold so much is crazy

That is insane, they are lucky their home is still standing. I can’t understand why if they can’t clean it their self it would pay to hire it done every year, cheaper than having you home burnt down, perhaps life’s lost.

What’s the suction power of that vacuum ?

Hopefully it’s not this bad!
What brand of dryer did they have? Man, what a work horse!
If that won’t cause a fire, nothing will! Makes me rethink the yearly cleaning I pay for😂
So glad these aren't too common here.

Thanks for info and especially the calculations. Please could you advise us on how much the cost we've likely used within the last year. Bought a C grade Indesit dryer a year ago. With a big family we use it generally daily 1 hour slots x 2 washes. Big thanks.

I'm saving this video for mental satisfaction.
