Best thing about this unit is that it literally does both. If you need control to be away from the grill while tending to a party, baby etc you can. If you want regular control since you have the time then you have that option as well.

Hi, I used the KamadoJoe 3. To control the temperature I use the IKamand. Its very similar to this one. Perfectly for a long cook.

Its the best of both worlds. It still has the draft door at the bottom, so it can be used in Flintstone mode with no power. Just have to light it the old fashioned way. Also, the 3 main electrical components are modular. So you can easily replace any of the 3 parts if needed. 1) controller module 2) fan/power module 3) wiring harness. Remove 2 bolts to replace the 2 modules. It's no more difficult than installing an add-on controller to a regular KJ. These components just happen to live on the grill at all times versus having to remove them each time. And it doesn't take the fun out of outdoor cooking in my experience......but if I want to unplug and still use the grill .....I can.

Very impressive machine and once you get into using it I am sure there a loads of great things it can do for you. That said the sausages didn't look very nicely grilled and while it was really effortless to make them, I can make some much more appealing sausages on my 10 year old fully manual Weber grill with only a little bit more effort put into it.

Looks good, but the Kamado is so controllable by setting the vents that with a Meater, you have 80% of this capability anyway... The "self lighting" aspect is cool though and I would expect having a fan assisted vent (I presume it does?) would help get it up to speed quickly for things like Pizza which the normal Kamado struggles to do. Would be interesting to test it with Pizza! The only real criticism I have of my Kamado is that the lower vent isn't big enough and/or isn't fan assisted, so it can take a while to get up to speed or get to really high temps for searing a steak etc.

WAY, WAAAAAY too much techno complexity just waiting to fail and brick the thing. And given KJ's inept fiasco with the original iKammand, I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole. I am a huge KJ fan, but the most "technical" thing I want on mine is my HeaterMeter fan and servo temperature controller. If IT dies, I can still cook just fine manually.

Well, consider me surprised now. I would have thought that you, who is very much about natural things, bringing up his own animals etc., would never own and operate a lawnmower robot. Those things do have a very bad reputation (a proven one) for being dangerous to all the smaller animals around your garden. For example, they are known for severely injuring and even killing hedgehogs. Anyway, interesting video. However, I'm simply not sure this thing is worth the money for a "small" grill. I have only the money and room for 2 grills so I probably would consider it only if it were at the size and the pricerange of a Big Joe.
