This Is The $800 RED Komodo Killer. (BMPC 4k)
The RED Komodo is an amazing camera, but this camera costs almost 1/10th of the price and provides similar value and specs. Of course the Koodo will be better in most ways, but the price is the big kicker, and if you need global shutter but cant afford to spend $6,000, this camera is fantastic.

lol, the Komodo doesn't have anywhere near 16 stops of dynamic range. It has 12-12.5 depending on which codec you use.

There are tons of SSD's but I'm assuming you have one that you tried with? They don't do very good error messages unfortunately, I'm getting strangely choppy video with ProresHQ 4.2.2 but no errors, I suspect my SSD is too slow or something but I also don't want to go buy a bunch of different ones to try...

@@astrophilicsfilms2882 Might be a little late, but I use 1tb Samsung 860 EVO drives. They are the only modern ssds that I have found that work with the BMPC4K. Stay away from WD and Seagate ssds, their buffers can't keep up with all the data.
I have the BMMCC, I had one guy walk up to me and was like" yooo is that the new Komodo??!" And I was like nope lol.
Only downside was the file sizes (being uncompressed raw) were huge. 17mins on a 250gb ssd. I know ssd's have gone cheaper now but they're still huge files. I bought the 2.5k Cc again, which is a little better in terms of size, but the image is still good if not better; and upscaling is not an issue. But yeah no global shutter

Great camera. It does shoot in 24fps as well.

For anyone stumbling over this vid in 2024 or later. You can get a Ursa mini 4k for about the same price (sometimes even with the VMount plate) and get a better package all together. The, throw in a CFast-SSD Adaptation für 90€ and you’re done.
nice review. Did you try to match these 2 cameras? I will probably have these two cameras as my setup for dialogues scene

Hi, does the 2 TB card you show in your video allow the recording of 4k raw CinemaDNG?
Great Video.. and I have a used one also... Can you list the videos on your channel that you are using this BMPC 4k UHD Camera... Please....
can wee use it for long video continual shooting for 2 hrs with power cable plugged in.
Can you send one link of the model battery platte and cable to connect to the camera? thanks
thanx. this helps a lot
What about bit depth?
Cual es el adaptador para la batería?
The Production is to the Pocket (4k&6k) what the Mysterium is to the Komodo. They have similar characteristics of depth and that elusive "film quality".

If you're talking about the BMPC, I have an M42 to EF adapter that works fine.

The Komodo does not have 16 stops DR. It has 12.5 stops at SNR=2. Unless you are going by the marketing department. But then you'd also have to believe FX3 has 15 stops lol. Check out CineD tests to confirm.
I hate this camera. Have shot features with it, the original ursa, and the ursa mini 4k. All have the same sensor and it’s the bane of my existence. The highlights clip so ugly and it’s limited dynamic range make it feel like you’re shooting with a DSLR, not a cinema camera. Should have bought a 2.5k😉

The DR of the camera is pretty limited. I think 10 or less stops. After I own it, any other cameras I had makes me feel like they have unlimited DR.

100%. Thats why the 2.5k is superior. Specially if you can find the mft model. With a Speedbooster you get around super 35 field of view, one whole stop more light, and more dynamic range.
I love my BMPC..
I saw the specs - it does 60 fps.

It’s OK if you have a limited budget and can work within its limitations. I believe this sensor suffered from the “black sun” issue and fixed pattern noise. Also terrible in low light. Trust me, it’s no Komodo 6K killer lol. I mean seriously LOL. But that said, it’s more about the talent behind the camera, than the camera. Honestly, take a look at the below footage and with a straight face spout off that the discontinued BMDPC4K is a Red Komodo 6K “Killer”. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oGhp06eQqNm2oKQ.html

I bought it for 1,500 euros in 2018 for a project and sold it a month for 1,000, it's the worst camera I've tried, very poor sensitivity, non-existent dynamic range, despite being 12-bit raw there is no color depth, don't buy that not even for 200 dollars, it's useless. BMPCC 1080p and BMCC 2.5K are a thousand times better.
As someone that’s owned both: this is the dumbest thing I’ve seen in awhile.
