📚Description: When the new limited edition 1958 ES-335 Reissue, Murphy Lab Light Aged Tri-Burst was introduced, the release didn't really interest me. It just seemed like another 335 reissue guitar that there are already tons of. Learning that only 130 of each of the 3 finishes will be made peaked my interest... but then after learning it doesn't have neck binding and that is a recreation of a spec the first year of 335s had made it a must document! Very early 1952 Les Paul standards have a similar thing and I'd go crazy for a reissue of that guitar so I imagine die-hard '58 ES-335 fans had similar thoughts. I ended up really liking this one!

The secret to non-wire ABR-1 back in the olden days, was once you had it setup, a dab of shellac will keep the saddles and screws in place. Shellac is nice, because it easily cleans off with alcohol.

Get ultra light. No dings still better feeling lacquer. My ‘23 ml 355 is the best sounding/playing guitar I’ve ever touched, and I’ve played a Lot of guitars. My ml r9 honestly fights for play time now. Still looks new, (*if they do the aging right) lacquer checking doesn’t have any of those long ugly checking lines, just micro-checked like real vintage lacquer. Can’t see it unless it’s against the light. Google a few real 59 ES guitars ull see what I mean. They def won’t all be like that but they do exist. These recent ones really are pretty special. Cheers!

What a fantastic 335! And yes the pickups should be unpotted. There is an art to controlling the feedback when you play. It gives a sound you can't have with potted pickups. Listen to Mr. 335 himself Larry Carlton doing "Point It Up" live where the 335 sings at pure bliss. A sound you can't forget.

I have one of those dreaded 2015 gibsons, a studio, it's so badly made the neck wasn't cut correctly, it was sliced diagonally which mean the tuners don't line up. It's the most vibrating guitar I've played, I've kept it over a 90s standard and a 2010 custom , it just sounds great, it's so badly made that about every month I have to lossen and tighten the truss coz it vibrates in the neck... the guitar is a real pain but it is one that I won't sell.

Salutations Austin! Very nice ‘58 Reissue ES-335, I especially like the lack of binding on the neck and no fret nibs, 15:54 however, I am with you, I would rather have the option of not having it aged by the Murphy Lab at an extra premium price, it would be much better to me to have it just like a brand new guitar and have it age naturally, I tend to take fairly good care of my guitars, and I definitely rather save the extra $1500 dollars for them to leave it alone. It sounds great, as is, but if someone wants different pickups, there are so many options available to suit just about anyone, personally, I might prefer the’57 Classic set, but there might not be much difference in sound quality, however, the newer versions with four (4) conductor wires do offer the option of coil splitting, however that also requires having it custom wired, which is what I would prefer to spend extra expenses on, more bells and whistles, not on premature aging. Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🎸

I can see the Murphy Lab is getting better in aging but, somehow the shine on the lacquer doesn't look quite right yet, could just be that VOS gunk throwing it off or on it or it's still a bit too shiny, kind of missing the 'eggshell' vibe if you know what I mean. But still it looks like a killer guitar, what a beauty!

Thanks for playing some Ziggy Stardust for us I'll be on my latest Studio I purchased after seeing it hear . No doubt plugged into the Spark 40 with the gain about 3 quarters the way up. Oh what and I'll have to also relearn that Allman brothers tune also. Who knows maybe Trogs could learn a little Eric Carmen and the Rasberrys as a tribute . Hint hint. Best bet for getting a highly resonate guitar first of all seek out models that are commonly resonate and try as many as you can before you pick one out.

@@legomywallet630 Interesting. Thanks for informing me of things I was unaware of. I would think "barn finds" may appeal to both people who like things as they are, along with all their accumulated character, and those who want to restore a car to their own preferences. It's still a little different than taking a new car and aging it, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was a thing these days. As you, there are options for all of us, and I don't begrudge anyone getting whatever they like. The one thing that seems similar to me are reproduction artifacts or works of ancient art. When we make and buy these, we make and buy reproductions of the works as they currently stand, not as they once might have been. For example, we wouldn't want a reproduction Roman statue covered in paint as they may have originally been. We'd want one that looks like plain marble, even with appendages "broken" off if that's what the original looks like now.
