@@TrevandErinthe voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope! As a survivor of a suicide attempt, this hit me like nothing has in music. I can’t explain how important both his music and the reactions of people like you are to me right now. Thank you again.
So, for context, Ren has Lyme disease, but by a tick as a teen and the medical professionals he first saw misdiagnosed him, told him it was all in his head, so it got worse, and as he saw all his friends have an eventful and fun twenties, he was bed-bound for years and it caused different levels of psychosis. He took that time to learn more about his guitar and songwriting. He's been a musician for a long while, in fact I think he was working with Sony before he was diagnosed, due to his being bed-bound, they dropped him. I might have a few things missing here, but this guy's got the walk to back his talk.

Another YT reactor said "Ren is a Wormhole, I need to deep dive this guy" and that's exactly it - I, like thousands of his Community (for that is what his presence has created amongst his followers), see him with one performance and automatically we feel compelled to deep dive and watch everything he has produced- and each piece is so unique, a surprise, covering a multitude of genres brilliantly. He's a lyrical and performance genius (his solo piano playing is exquisite) who truly captivates his audience and draws them into his world, yet so authentic and humble. His Reach is two- pronged I feel: those who simply enjoy and appreciate his musical and performance genius; and those who resonate with parts of his story as he articulates our own pain and struggles, our own battles of Darkness and Light. Imo, he's a celestial being, an Earth Angel, a born Warrior of Light and is now stepping into his Power and breathing life and blood into his wings to shine his Light of hope, inspiration and validation through the myriad of gifts and talents he has, and with this piece in particular has created a Portal for so many others now to feel safer to step into and express and expose themselves, their perfections and imperfections, their mental health struggles and demons that is normally so stigmatised and deeply misunderstood by those who've not experienced it. I'm so glad for him this deeply personal, vulnerable masterpiece is now giving him the reach and spotlight he deserves - he's worked so hard for it -"Renlentessly" - for so long whilst still battling ill health. He really will continue to rise in the music that he leaves behind...

Chalk Outlines (Live version) is also another decent one-take performance.

That really is genius. We do all have that side whether we admit it or not. It may not be to these extremes but we definitely have that devil on our shoulder
This was a very enjoyable, honest, and heartfelt reaction. God bless you. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar over the past month; it went viral and garnered more than 2 million views in a couple of weeks, but he has been creating great music for more than 10 years. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of the subjects, experiences, and emotions expressed in his songs touch me on a very personal level because I can relate to and identify with many of his struggles. A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments. He plays multiple instruments, has amazing vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Oh My Woman," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

You're the first reactor to this song that I've seen that pointed out his specific movement's in his head turing. It's like he winces as he turns his head. Like he's affraid of the other voice as he turns. Just so so incredibly well done.
Since I first viewed this "work of art", I have done nothing but watch reactions. Yours has been my favorite! I just wanted to point out something. When he says "I will kill you", it's not suicidal thoughts. The "sane" Ren, is saying he will ki the demon Ren. Only mistake was, he says "lock you inside". Ren has discovered a lot of truths. I wonder, just how much he truly understands about what he has learned. How deep his understanding goes. I think he has reached true discernment, in this truth. People think of the human body as a one seater. That it has one soul, and nothing more. This is wrong. Every human has a back seat. If we don't invite in the Holy Spirit, then we are left open for a demon, a fallen angel, to become the back seat driver. Notice Ren challenged evil at the age of 17. And his trouble started. He hadn't made a relationship with our Heavenly Father. And evil took him up on his challenge. And he has been sick ever since. I pray Ren evicted that evil spirit. You can't kill them. And you certainly don't even want to "lock them inside". You want to invite in the Holy Spirit. And let the Holy Spirit throw out the evil spirit. Notice how he said he "softened". Learned to relax. He became HUMBLE! "Through HIM all things are possible. But ONLY through Him! New age religions tell people that we are all gods. Evils deception! We are humans. Flawed by nature. And God's children! With the authority over evil! But only if we humble ourselves to God. Thank you for this reaction! It is my favorite one. GOD BLESS

it's a bit debatable, since "demon ren" IS him. Which demon ren even expressly says.. it's fair to consider that normal ren could consider killing himself to be free of his demon.. Anyway, its got a lot of layers, and enjoyable to spend time thinkin on the layers as they apply to our own stuggles!

It's an amazing performance. I think it's right up there with Freddie Mercury at Live Aid, or the Pink Floyd reunion for Live 8, or Hendrix on the Lulu show, or the Adele Tiny Desk concert - it's as good as any of them. Not just the musicianship of a top singer, rapper and guitarist, but the ability to inspire people to make the video, and to get them to understand and execute the vision. Make no mistake, this is the start of something very big for everyone involved. [And if you think Ren is the best singer in his sphere, check out his stuff with Chinchilla. I hope they are still making music together. So much talent.]

Wow I appreciate it!
I've been watching reaction videos to this song for 10 days now and am working on a very long blog post which might turn into more than one, not only about the song, but the reactions its causing, and I want to say yours has moved into my list of favorites. I LOVED how you took so much time with the words, rewinding, pondering, speaking; I LAUGHED in the middle where you became conscious of how many times you had said, "bro" (very endearing, self-deprecating/self-aware humor!); and I was MOVED by how much the song moved you. I've seen a few reaction videos where the people, for whatever reason, concealed how moved they were but to me, one of the many gifts of this song is how universally it is moving people and opening our hearts. Anyway, bro, lol, I'm gonna make a late add to the blog post so your video, complete with the thumbnail, gets included in my list of favorites! Well done....you've got a new subscriber in me, too!

I got obsessed with reactions to this song and you're one of two reactions I've seen correctly catch the "She sells sea shells on the sea shore" and then "make waves" connection. I looooove all these tiny little details he chose to include into this artwork, and the dialogue at the end I always felt like it was a synopsis of the journey we just went through

I really do appreciate good music like this. I'm so glad you liked the video and could relive your first listen vicariously through me 😆
First time here. I too am a music lover. (Hard core!) I haven't seen anything on your channel but this. I noticed you're a gospel musician so I have a question and I certainly don't mean this in a disrespectful way. Why is it that at least in my experience I've never heard a song that has even close to the fire that seen and heard here in Christian music? Decades ago when I attended church I had people including pastors, leaders, and teachers ask me why I didn't enjoy worship music or why I didn't raise my arms like everyone else and made me feel like a child in trouble. I wanted to say because it didn't move me in the least and found myself wondering why they couldn't recognize it themselves. I really enjoyed seeing another obvious music lover react to this artist. He has reminded me of why I am a music lover. I listen to his tunes everyday. Thank you for your time and for sharing Ren.

Hey no offense taken. I agree. I think Christian music is headed in the right direction but it can definitely be extremely boring. There are artists like Lecrae, KB, Andy Mineo, and like 1K Phew have some bangers and are Christian artists if you ever get curious. I definitely understand where you’re coming from tho
We tear up because he speaks of the truth. We all need Hope, without him,we have nothing.
I never comment, but I must have watched 50 or more reacts to this song (that's another story), and yours by far is my favourite. Totally real, totally relatable. Basically 90% who watched it in private for the first (or tenth) time reacted the same way. I certainly did. The song itself is out of this world! Almost ethereal like.
Best reaction I’ve seen! I’ve watched so many others on Hi Ren. You pause the video and react at exactly the right times.

Loved your reaction, you transmitted what I also felt listening and watching this. This is pure art, pure genius. No words to define it, just beautiful, deep, raw…. Majestic.
I did Finnish watching you, I apologize. I watched this video, first time , never heard of the guy. And for the next three days couldn't stop listening to his music. What an amazing artist. Ren deserves so much love from us. So many people will, it will help so many people. Just my opinion... maybe not try to sway your audience's view on what they're experience is . Still react but let your subscribers watch and react more at the end. I appreciate you. I did subscribe. It's not as easy as you make it look. Respect bro

I appreciate your feedback and giving it a chance. I normally don't pause this much. I just had ADHD take over 😂 sorry if I replied standoffish. I tried to say what I was feeling and how I interpret the lyrics. Most have seen the video before so it's kinda just like me trying to figure it out and enjoy it. Again I appreciate the feedback and you giving it a chance. Maybe you'll enjoy my future reactions where it's more just lyric breakdown with humor involved but not too many pauses
LOL The moment Ren starts singing towards the end is where everyone pulled their image for a thumbnail. But I respect you're decision to be unique and have a normal expression for your Hi Ren reaction 😂

Loved your genuine reaction and just subscribed to your channel! Having been following Ren for a few years now, I am so glad more people get to discover his music - or might I say « his Art » as some of his work, as Hi ren, is so much than music imo. As some have already pointed out, the Trilogy of Jenny, Screech and Violet (to be watch in this order, there is a video regrouping all of them on his channel) is another great piece to discover, as are Money Game part 1 and 2 (and really, so much more of his work). I'd gladly watch you react to more of Ren's songs if you happen to fell down this amazing rabbit hole as so many of us did too. :) Take care, and enjoy!

Oh! I forgo to mention it, but he also just released « Sick Boi » a few days ago, which is kind of in the same line as « Hi Ren », even though in a pretty different style, where he portrays the struggles he had to go through while being misdiagnosed for years and things he wish he could have told his therapists and others at the time. In a fairly different way, it is another piece that speaks a lot and that I think you might enjoy. :)

@@TrevandErin I'll be there for it! :D As for « Sick Boi », an interesting fact I've learned recently is that he used to work with at label (I believe it was Sony) during that period, but they dropped him for reasons (I've read a few things through comments, but haven't verified them so I won't go there). This knowledge helped me to understand a part of the « Sick Boi » song as to « why » it is in there (the first time I listened to it without knowing about the label thing, I didn't really get what I thought was a change of subject in the song, but now that I do, I completely understand how it is actually deeply related to the rest of it), so before you watch it, I thought I'd share. :)
First time I saw this video the thing that struck me right away was the musicality & pure theater of it .. dude, is a natural performer & insanely musical. #goRen
