This is Plumpton Green - Episode 2 - Shunting the yard, crossing passenger trains, horseboxes.

The mid-morning down goods arrives to shunt the yard, arranging the wagons for collection by later up and down pick-up goods. A down passenger train pauses, and an up non-stop passes through. The horsebox train arrives ready for the race at the adjacent Plumpton Race Course.
Plumpton Green is a model railway built to P4 standards, closely based on Plumpton in East Sussex.

As a signalman on the Bluebell Railway, I have an interest in operating Plumpton Green 'reasonably realistically'. The interlocked lever frame is in front of the layout, so that exhibition visitors can see how it works, which prompts lots of interesting questions. Plumpton Green is basically a signal box with a model railway attached!

I've added steam sounds to the latest one, and I'm working on adding sound for a new one. It's very time consuming!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's given me a reason to operate the layout, but it's not a very good substitute for exhibiting it at a few shows each year!

Incredible build. Is there a signal man att the fiddle yard too, of is it automated?

When the layout is being exhibited, we have typically five operators - the signalman, and each end has a fiddle yard operator and driver. The fiddle yard operators set up the trains according to the sequence and operate block instruments identical to the main instruments. The block instruments are operated in a reasonably prototypical manner, and drivers drive in accordance with the signals (working stop signals and ground signals). The intention is to ensure a clear understanding between operators and to minimise operator error as far as possible. Nothing is automated!

The steam lorry and steam crane are both Langley Model kits. The saw bench is scratch-built from an old photograph. There was a similar saw bench at Bluebell railway's recent Road meets Rail event. You might be able to find some photos on line.

The only sounds on episodes 1-5 are the block bells. I didn't start adding loco sounds until episode 6.

Hi - charming railway layout! So realistic and relaxing to watch. Is the stock scratch built? Regards pd

All the stock is either kit or scratchbuilt. About half of the locos are scratchbuilt, but all have scratchbuilt chassis. Most of the coaches are kit built, but the six-wheel mahogany coaches in episode 5 (11 minutes in) are scratchbuilt. There's more information about the layout and stock here: www.lbscrmodels.co.uk/pg1.html Barry

You're right. There is a track plan on 'Setting the scene' and also on Episode 1, and most of the later episodes.
