While I agree the plastic was .. cheesy, I personally liked the functionality of having a proper fender over the tire that will minimize water/mud slopping up on my backside. ;) Had a cousin who seen my NEW KLR250 and told me the 1st thing that needed to go was all the plastic covers. I never removed anything and it was beneficial for all the rides. It also helped the resale 15 some years later. People were chomping at the bit for that bike. :)

I have never understood fender deletes. I guess these folks only ride on dry surfaces in dry weather.

Yes! Especially, fender deletes on sport bikes. The license plate is so far up and under the passenger seat/fender that some cops will pull you over because of it. And that’s an encounter that I don’t need.

Rather have a replacement fender that is the same length as the original - but do away with the black plastic, just chrome the whole length like the front.

Honestly, the best thing about this fender delete kit is the LED license plate light. I could care less about the “clean look” of less fender style. The more fender you have, the better it is in deflecting any mud or muddy water onto your back/neck. As fo the bottom holes not lining up, ever heard of drilling out the holes a tad bigger so that they line up with the license plate?

If you live in a climate with lots of sun it’s a good idea. For others who have to ride on wet roads it’s stupid. The standard set up stops water and crud getting on the back of your jacket. Those missing bolts at the bottom of numberplate look terrible and I bet the plate rattles when you ride it.

Here in the UK tail tidy is very popular purely because of the look. Personally, I like the original and also keeping the dirt under the fender and off me. Each to their own though

I really do not see a point of rear fender delete. You just trade in function over looks. Now, when you are driving in rain or mud, you get everything on your back. You are riding Honda Monkey, it is cool without this useless addon.

The rear fender has no function except to comply with DOT requirements. I have had no problem with back spray from this kit on my Honda Monkey.

Agree mtlsi, worthless downgrade. Nothing but looks, and I think it looks worse now. One tip for riding, you want to be visible, so you also removed 3 reflectors, two on the side and one on the rear to make you less visible when you did that fender delete downgrade, good job. So you purchased a retro looking Monkey bike but you are not happy with the retro look so you want it to look more modern now, just buy the Grom instead.

  • @jdesmo1

@@JT-ov2yr Totally agree. No respect for people playing with motorcycles and poo-poo basic safety, for the sake of looks. I always want to be as visible as possible on the bike. Certainly doesn't look like you comprehend the risks associated with this sport.

I think I'd rather leave it on, I see they reason you wanna delete, its kinda modern plastic on a retro chrome bike, but it is matt black, so it doesn't jump out, and really it does have a useful function, if you live in sunny parts of the world, absolutely delete it, but for countries like U.K. that get 50/50 rain or shine, best keep it on if not a fair weather rider... we all know Honda's research and development is 2nd to none, they don't put useless stuff on to downgrade the looks, they are normally minimalistic in their design so there must be good reason, and I welcome it, and the option to remove it cleanly, and that it's done in matt black (flat?) so's not to pop! 👍🤗

Yoshimura makes a nice product, if a bit overpriced. I have their tail tidy kit on my CRF450L and it's a solid item which is important for the beating it takes off road. For those on a budget, the MNNTHBX kit is very sturdy and looks nearly the same as the Yosh once installed other than it does not include a plate light. I sourced a Rizoma universal light and mounted to the MNNTHBX plate holder. Any universal plate light shoukd work, including those that double as plate mounting bolts.

Tommys style lol I thought you were going to turn it into a rocking chair with pipe and slippers. Now the volume is good on this upload but again Tommys was very quiet on the walk round on the 7 seater Gladiator. In the UK we would have to refit at least the rear facing reflector pretty sure the side also but not MOT'd a bike in a few years.

The original Honda Mini-Trail 50 (pre-monkey) didn't have the obscenely long rear fender, which was something I hated about the Monkey. I didn't have any problem with mud ending up on my back. I recall that the license plate itself was kind of a deterrent. I like the license plate light. I could adapt that to my Super Tenere.

I am buying a Monkey this week. I’ve been reading many of the channels dedicated to the Honda Monkey. I’m 60 yrs old. I though about doing some performance mods i.e., yoshimura exhaust, chimera air intake … But then I saw that you have to reprogram the computer or chips on the monkey to adjust for the modifications. Then one KZreadr said the reprogramming wasn’t working and he had to go back to the original exhaust and air intake. Question: should I leave it alone? Just as the manufacturer intended ? JC

This is what I did: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4OoqK5phc_IXdY.html Dismantle the back of fender. Cut the plastic fender to same length as Chrome fender. Shave the end and reflectors from metal part below the plastic. Attach the metal part back to its original place and attach the plate to that. Tidy, sturdy and doesn't cost anything. If wanted make a small bracket for original license plate light without it's cover and place that above the license plate. P. S. I think the plate is on much nicer angle when doing this mod yourself compared to many of these off the self fender tidy stuff.

You clearly have never ridden a Monkey/Grom/Z125 Pro. I've been riding 30 years, ridden all sorts of bikes, and I've have more fun on the aforementioned bikes (have owned them all) than just about any other except for maybe my 450 dual sport off road. It's hard to explain to some folks, but it amounts to riding comically small bikes on public roads and getting to ride wide open ALL the time. Yes, they're slow, but you really do feel like you are riding something you shouldn't on the street. You can also kinda sorta get away with riding down paths, sidewalks, and in culverts if you don't act like too much of a fool.
