This is NOT your average XC trail

Just because it's flat, doesn't mean it's easy. This Whistler XC trail is chalked full of skinnies and stunts, offering a completely different experience to the bike park.

And....a bear, because the track wasn't terrifying enough already. 😳
Your calm reaction on the bear is so good. He instinctly knew that you are a good rider and thats why he didnt came after you :-) As always awesome video to watch.

As ever Dave, your prodigious trial skills are a joy to watch.
I appreciate the side views of you doing the features! Good way to get across what you are actually doing as sometimes the first person view misses a lot.
DD: I'm going to leave riding the sketchy log to younger, braver riders..... Proceeds to ride the hardest features backwards....like they were designed to be ridden that way. Anyone else seeing the DD talent meter one again rising another notch or two?! Take notes younger riders, trials riding IS a transferable mtb skill!
The fact that you can ride that stuff backwards is seriously crazy, I’d love to see how you ride street sometime, cheers man🤘
So cool seeing how little has changed on that trail over the years! I remember trying that line thru the stump at 7:30 at least 10 years ago and it looks pretty much the same now. I never managed to do the line tho, after wiggling thru and hunching over I felt pretty sketchy about that drop

Joes garage, at one time there was a full tree but it had to get the chop.
Wonder what was more impressive... Your skill or the bear encounter ! 🤣🤣
Really enjoyed seeing you go through the different features, and I thought you are a mad lad for going through everything backwards, and then suddenly bear! Like you said when you found it, holy s-t, never seen one appear that close.
In the uk we are unlikely to come across wild bears on the trails, but some time ago I bought a Timber! …it’s a ‘tinkerly’ bell that you can switch on or off by an easy friction lever, it’s a little annoying but I got mine to warn dog walkers… annoying or not, it’s got to be better than the sudden weight loss you might experience when finding that unexpected bear..? Fantastic ride, by the way.
I’m here for the DD Laugh 😂 Makes my day every time.
I rode that trail dozens of times when I lived nearby in 2004. Even then I never approached the control you showed us here. The Mikes Garage hollow tree looks about the same, but my handlebars for through back then! Thanks for the video, good to know the trail is still there. And still as rocky and rooty as it was.
“We’ll leave that for some younger, braver rider” Yeah Dave. Every time I watch you absolutely slay some back country triple black I think about what a coward you are!! 😝
Imagine an XC race on that trail ! It would be carnage with riders trying that stuff at 90% max heart rate race pace haha.
This is nuts, as always with Dave. My favourite KZread series. Love your dropping techniques. Please, continue!
Have to say, this was super fun to watch - probably more than any bike park riding!
Your trials skills are so impressively smooth love the videos!!!!!!!
"for the sake of saving energy I'm going to head back. ... Lets see how many of these tricks i can do in reverse!" -Dave before finding a bear shitting in the woods
What a sick mtb skills you have dave!🤘🏼the bear really scared me too!
Glad you know your limits and wear a helmet. Good job with the bear. I look forward to watching more of your amazing skills.
what a joy ! i love the balance ! i think i learn something here for sure!!
That trail has changed a LOT since I rode it twenty years ago! Still recognised some elements, super fun! I recall a buddy falling off the log over the river. Side ropes definitely take the fun out of that bit!
Big balls for people who ride these trails. I would worry if there is up keep on the structures. This should be an Olympic sport. Mad skills and courage to do.
Did that trail a few years ago. Loved it! I have none of your skills so was very glad for the ride arounds, lol! But even the “main” trail was a fun challenge!
Nice vid man the new bike seems to be going pretty sick
Incredible! Your riding never fails to amaze.
You’re videos are always so entertaining and fun
Love your footage Dave. Keep up the gnar gnar.
very time I watch you vids I am so unbelievably impressed and entertained.

I’m surprised you don’t run into more furry friends! I was in Whistler late (winter) season this year and was running on a well traveled paved path through one the residential areas… anyway, I come up and over this little hill and see two cubs and a mama. Black bears with a brown coat… odd. They took off up a tree. All three of them. I was like, DANG! This isn’t Hawaii! Hahaha
I understand leaving the bike park to get into the woods. That is a lot of insane woodwork on that XC trail and you slayed it.
DAVE you are like insane man haha
First time watching you, really enjoyed the video & subscribed. I'd love to ride there. Like how you complimented the rider passing by too. Good guy 👊
My dude, please look into higher framerates. You're really great at what you do and it would be great to see every small movement you make!
Amazing man. Amazing tech and skills. Amazing Trail.
Super sick place! Great riding
Your balance and body control is awesome!
Beautiful bridge across the river and a bear encounter, talk about a great video!
As a trials rider I would say you have a really nice skill. This trail seems like a lot of fun, build with love.
Great video! Earned a subscriber on this one! I'll get up to Whistler one day and try some of these trails that I always see on youtube.
Sick riding an bear prevention skills, respect!
Always with the mad technical skills. :)
Although Whistler is a bucket list ride,....everything afterwards was so much more "interesting" to me. Keep up the great content!
You have very good control of your bike!
Skills too good Dave!
That looks like so much fun!
plot twist: its an average xc trail the twist: dave is not an average xc rider
Such a cool trail!
🤯 wow bro 🤯 Fist of fantastic ride 💪🏾💯 your bike control is outstanding. That's not all then cleared it in the opposite direction 🤯. I thought Woodwork and Bears was the name of the trail... Nope.. That scared me as a viewer great job handling that situation... Great call leaving the bike park... I'm definitely looking forward to the next adventure!!!!
Awesome video, think I’m gonna ride this trail myself!
Your videos are just so satisfying to watch... I'd keep watching for hours if I could hahahahahhahahaha
Crazy skill. The bear avoidance move was good too 😃
Lovely man! Respect
Holy cow dude! Well done on the bear encounter!
Don't you worry Dave! I'm going to step up my skinny practice 1000% in the coming year. Next time you see me I'll be ready to ride at least ONE of the features you and Nick showed me! 😂
I guarantee that bear was like "oh. it's another one of those strange wheel creatures"
I think we should award bonus points for doing it on the big boat that is the Meta. Really cool video that's totally different.
I can’t believe I was in Whistler same time as you… Riding RRTI was amazing fun, it never gets old. It would have been AWESOME meeting you in perso. Your Comensal appears to be good, do you miss the Sight?😄
Such a classic trail. So fun
got the whole playground to yourself, except for random bear. what a dream. its funny how many features are still around from the days of skinny handlebars lol.
One of the only XC trails that leaves me as stoked as a DH run. Awesome trail.
Good trail and cool skills 👌
A River Runs Through It was one of the best trails in Whistler and just needs some love to bring it back.

@@NickBainas Thanks for the info. I haven't ridden ARRTI in a long time. It was always the trail to hit when in the area. Hopefully I can check it out next time I'm up that way.
This vid reminds me of a quote from Jacky Chan: It's not the "best" style...it's not the only style...it's __my__ style." 😎
Amazing! Best park ditch decision ever! 👌
I enjoy your videos every time. Greetings from Switzerland.
So many bears this spring and summer. I was bluff charged twice this year by a female with cubs. Heavy snow and a slow spring concentrated the bears in the valley. Berry crops are out now and bears are following the berries uphill now. You did the right thing. Make noise and give the bear space and a way out. I’ve been riding RRTI for years. One of my favourite rides although I don’t ride it like you do.
The fact that you got bored of whistler so you rode an "xc trail" instead made me laugh What a Chad Gread riding as always!
That bear was backing off till you started saying you were sorry!! It look like it was about to run away then you said soory and it started walking towards you lol
Superb riding, this trail would be a blast on a muni!
Frigging sick!
Your riding is inspirational.
Great to watch them skills and bike control
That bear's reaction would have scared the crap out of me. Normally a black bear will quickly attempt to escape an interaction with a human, at least where I am from. This guy started calmly walking right towards you!
Thank you for showing this. All I ever get to see if whistler is the jump trails. I’m way to old for that.
Such an awesome trail
so impressive 🙌🏽
Dave: good to know I’ve still got some skills Me: this dude is flipping made of skill and I would kill to have half the skill and guts he does.
The first and last sections of this trail which you did not ride also have some fun features. You definitely got the gist of it though. If you want to ride some more valley bottom casual tech, check out Cut-Yer-Bars and peripherals Shits and Giggles, Suicycle and Hand of Doom. Only a couple features are more shit than giggle... You will enjoy, guaranteed.
Great video, rode it 2010 on DH bikes, it was hard work. Looks like they have carried out a lot of work on it since then. 👍
That. Was. Insane! ...ly good skills!
That wooden bridge over the river was awesome.
Amazing and sick at the same time.........!
1. That trail is sick 2. The diving board looks mint
Is it real? fantastic! Thank you for sharing this great footage! Greetings from Canada and wish you have a wonderful day!👍👍👍👍
I have ALWAYS wondered about bears with each video I've seen from you and now I see that they're still there...sometimes. Thankfully it was a black bear and not a grizzly.
Question on skinnies, do you drag your back brake at all for stability? I've heard conflicting info on this technique lol. Sweet riding as always - cheers!
Dude, you are a damn good rider.
Dude, you have some great skills. Have you’ve done Trials?

Cool place!
I agree with you, way better than a bike park 🤙
I live in OH. This a double black trail here. Lol. Old school stuff where the rider means way more than the rig. That is why I ride hiking trails. Riding trails not made for bikes is all we had for decades. Wheelie drop was a mandatory skill on 26." The trail was obviously designed originally for less than modern bar widths. Love that you just troll the XC riders by riding the features backwards. Dave Classic. Buy a clip-on fan for the bars. Reduces sweating.
Just what the Dr ordered for Saturday morning
Man.. you would have loved this trail back in the early days. It really has mellowed out in the last few years. This trail seems built for you I always wanted to be able to do that tree. But I didnt fit through it back in the day. With wide handlebars today there is no chance haha. It was meant for like 500mm bars or some ridiculous size like that haha Trials rides were early trail cutters. The emerald forest has trails cut uphill by trials guys. Amazing to see you ride it :)

I also remember when that bridge over the river had no hand rails and no on ramp. It was bruuuutal and.. it hurt to fall in both because it's cold and it's far... Hahaha Good memories.n
That bear was just stoked to see someone ride those features backwards.
Watching you ride this trail is infinitely more interesting than watching yet another bike park video.
Rad Dave!
Your are an excellent rider.
Rode this amazing trail a month ago. Can't believe you're hitting this stuff backwards. How is bunnyhopping on the Meta? I noticed it's got longer chainstays than your Sight. I can do bunnyhops on a bmx but I can't do a proper one on my MTB and was wondering if I should get something with shorter chainstays (current is 445mm).
Great riding and the bear was healthy looking
