    Arin continually just bashes his head into a wall and is mad when it doesn't work. The Dark Link fight exposes the hell out of him. 1) He never uses his shield unless it's literally required, but Dark Link does and it's stonewalling him. According to Arin, it's bullshit. 2) He skims a walkthrough but doesn't do it right, and then gets mad that the walkthrough is 'wrong'. 3) Every time he dies, he charges right back to the fight with almost no preparation. More hearts? Fairies? Nah. 4) Once he figures out the cheese strat, suddenly he's in a good mood again, shocker. God forbid something require him to alter his approach or think critically.

    People literally still got pissed in the parts where he apologized for his mistakes. They got pissed when he he chose to kill Moblins with bombs (which he had no problem doing) instead of the the cheaper method of using a switch hook. He calmly pointed out once he felt some of the puzzles just felt like busy work and moved on but the comment section made a big deal out of it. He pointed out stuff he was wrong about in his sequelitas. He didnt just spend the entire time blaming the game for his own mistakes like you guys want to believe. People are mad because they cant handle seeing people play their vidya games poorly. It happens on James and Mike mondays videos too. Some people simply have trouble holding commentary and playing games but theres proof around that these guys can indeed play well.

    @Antichrist2000 Well, there's no objectivity when it comes to liking or disliking a game, period. Bias against the game? The game is twenty years old... It's bound to have blatant problems. After all it was the transitional stage between 2D to 3D for Nintendo. Any game has the right for criticism. Any *thing*, really. Especially the early 3D games spawned from the N64 or PS1. Because they have problems, objectively. That's why we have games the way they are made today and not twenty years ago.

    @@charlie1234500 By that logic games nowadays must be superior in every way, right? I don't think that's the case. There's plenty of 40-60 dollar games released today that are worse than ocarina of time. With games I don't think it's about making something perfect and flawless, because certain gameplay flaws are inevitable. "10/10 Ign Goty" games have glaring flaws. I think it's about how much the good things outweigh the flaws. It's not like a painting where you look at it from afar and admire it, games are experiences you invest a lot of time into. I can spend an hour picking apart shitty things about ocarina or skyward sword or link to the past, but it says nothing for how fun the overall experience is, or at most it says very little. You can probably make a 2 hour video arguing for or against any game within reason. You can clearly tell Arin is looking at these games from afar and cherry picking without considering the entire experience and how it's woven together. The way he plays the games shows how he isnt knowledgable about the games themselves as a whole, dungeon design, world design, etc, just about a couple of nitpicks he has formed. But that's my observation.

Arin was soooo negative and bitchy the entire time, and you can hear Dan struggling to keep the feel of the show light and friendly - and Arin just couldn't stop being insufferable and remember he's doing a comedy show. It's super evident in the water temple - Dan's super uncomfortable with how shitty Arin seems to be acting. I dunno, weird observation but it really bugged me through the course of this series.

    Hibub Games - Deku Nuts are extremely useful even for casual players. They have the amazing effect of reducing the WAITING that Arin complains so much about. In so many of his playthroughs, he doesn't use all the tools available to him and complains when his comfortable strategy (usually MASH THE ATTACK BUTTON) doesn't work anymore. Off the top of my head, Deku Nuts can: - extinguish any of the varieties of flaming skulls and make them vulnerable - interrupt the attacks of Gerudo guards, Stalfos, and Lizalfos and leave them open for a jump attack - stun the laser statues - reveal the living statues and/or stun them - stun Floormasters and Wallmasters and kill them when they split - instantly kill those annoying bubbles in Jabu-Jabu in a wide AoE - instantly kill the jellyfish in Jabu-Jabu, and this also works on the jellyfish that surround Barinade - instantly kill the bats - stun the flying stingrays and make them pop out of the ground or fall down - clear the ghost clones of the Forest Temple mini-boss and reveal the main one - stunlock Dark Link and trivialise the fight - damage Ganon and trivialise the fight, you can kill him with only Deku Nuts They're one of the most versatile items in the entire game if you experiment with them, there aren't many enemies you can't use them on.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a genius concept and I love it, but when you take into consideration his stupid "too much waiting" criticism of OoT, the hypocrisy really shines through, haha.

    Just because both combat systems can use lock-on, that doesn't mean they're the same, there are far more differences than there are similarities. And that's without even mentioning the lack of technical limitations and polishing that souls games have compared to OoT. It's funny that people like you call him an idiot, yet can't distinguish apples from oranges. Don't get me wrong, he's an idiot, you're just both idiots.

    ShadowMark Has anybody called you out on being an idiot yet? nobody once spoke about lock-on. it's the waiting aspect that Arin hates with a passion. Dark souls is absolutely full of waiting, and is about 15x more punishing when you don't wait, than in Oot when not waiting means your weapon bounces off of what you tried to hit or you get half a heart taken out of your 10 or so hearts. In dark souls, a mistake like that usually costs you 80% of your health or your life. Dark souls and Ocarina of Time are surprisingly similar in their combat systems, but the games are obviously meant for different types of gamers. Arin is not good at video games. in all of the dark souls playthroughs he summons through most bosses and they either carry him or sacrifice themselves for him. In Ocarina, he carries multiple fairies and still gets wiped, indiscriminately on most bosses. Arin is just incompetent on levels I hadn't personally seen before, and as someone who mostly has grumps playthroughs on as background noise, this was eye opening as fuck.

    Hiddenforever69 "Has anybody called you out on being an idiot yet?" Read your entire comment, still wondering when you're going mention how I'm apparently an idiot. "nobody once spoke about lock-on." nobody once spoke about why the games were similar, so I made the assumption that he meant the one thing that both games obviously have in common. "it's the waiting aspect that Arin hates with a passion." I could argue that waiting is *much* less of an aspect in the combat of DkS than in OoT. I could argue that half of Arin's point about there being "so much god damn waiting" doesn't even have to do with the combat, and rather the tedious meandering about, fetch quests and grueling exposition, which those elements aren't present in DkS. I could argue that DkS is not necessarily more punishing than OoT in the way that you have in mind due to the prevalence of estus and bonfires in each location that replenish everything. But instead, I'll just give you this point, because it doesn't matter in the slightest, they're still completely different games and your comment changes nothing. The rest of your comment serves no purpose, not that the first part of it really had any to begin with, it seems like you more agree with me than disagree, so I have no idea why you think I'm an idiot.

That's NOT how ADHD works. You have trouble when you have to focus on ONE thing. The fact that he's in an environment with several sources of stimuli that he can bounce between should actually make this easier for him. Given, I'm not an expert. To be fair, that game (if played well) turns into a game of managing a known set order of events. The waiting is still there, but there is investment there, which there isn't really any of in Oot, which is just unregulated waiting. MM is about waiting for something you know will happen, which you plan out, that, at the very least, is a little more interesting.

    I think a major reason Arin has so much difficulty with this game is that because he assumes he's an expert at the game by virtue of having played it multiple times, causing him to not engage with the game and ignore dialogue boxes and major mechanics that would massively help him. This isn't helped by the fact that first played this as a kid, where he likely spent hours making very little progress and not understanding how things work like how most kids play games. So his foundational knowledge of the game is very shaky at best.

  • @PANICBLADE
    @PANICBLADE6 жыл бұрын

    I love how Arin complains about how linear the experience of OoT is, but when he plays it, he doesn't take any advantage of the freedom it does give him as he plays. He has almost minimal hearts and golden skultulla rewards from the lack of exploring. I'm watching the video and they passed the Fire Temple, and he didn't even pick up Din's Fire yet? Like the horse entirely can be skipped so I'm surprised he bothered even and didn't just cross the bridge with the longshot. The horse helps get the biggoron sword and stamina management saves time, and lets you jump obstacles (like getting to Gerudo Valley early), it also makes the racing more engaging, which they already did, and he failed there too. He complained this game just brought over items from the past Zeldas so the game doesn't utilize them effectively with its Z axis, yet he refuses to take advantage of these items during combat outright. He never uses the bow to kill Keese or other enemies and always uses the really slow Hookshot despite having full arrows all the time and the game dropping them constantly. He walked along the bottom of the lake forever, but did he go fishing and get those rewards? Did he try the horseback archery challenges? Thing is, almost nobody would care about how Arin plays the game if he didn't blame the game so often. He often responds to criticism by saying something along the lines of "Well excuse me for playing the game to have fun and not just do everything perfectly and get to the end as fast as possible or whatever." Problem is that IS how he's playing the game. If he's whining about things while playing, then he's not conveying to the audience that he's having fun. He seems like he's playing this game to just rush to a goal, like he's not exploring much or taking in the dialogue. He's playing it like a linear and straightforward game and ignoring the freedom it gives you in combat and exploration, and how rewarding both can be. So yeah, don't be surprised when you complain and people correct you and suggest things to make you enjoy the experience more properly. He can play it however he wants, but he seems to be playing it a way that contradicts how he wants the game to be played by himself. Think of each fight as a puzzle and find the fastest and safest way to solve it. Take the time to explore the game and accept the rewards it has for you to use to help you later. Assess your surroundings properly and experiment with what will help you advance after finding all the available clues. Have fun. Etc. On top of that, he mentioned combat and exploration being separated when before they were the same process, yet he never fights without z targeting, which you can, and when fighting multiple enemies, the game encourages because it is how you swing your sword horizontally. Most people also used the spin attack without z targeting to get a better view of the surroundings while you charge and release.

    I learned a few things myself. Like how you can float over the clam in that one walkway where Arin dies (twice, I think). Dan should've been allowed to play this, since it was such a benchmark for Nintendo, a chunk of history for the company. Didn't Danny say at one point in Mario Galaxy that he wanted to play through all the important games? Arin should be nicer to Dan, and let that actually happen.

    I have faith that Dan can see the beauty in this game. There are times in the playthrough (and this video) that he says he’s enjoying what he sees and likes the look of it. He’s also had genuine moments of shock and awe like at Shieks reveal. Dan sees all games as most works of art. Arin... the less I say about him the better.

    Colton Waters I also feel bad for Dan he’s said the reason he rarely plays anything that isn’t multiplayer or an NES game is because he’s self conscious about playing bad. Though honestly it was a missed opportunity to not have Dan play this and Mario 64. He would’ve been a lot more optimistic and I can’t see him being any worse than Arin

  • @MungBaalin

    @MungBaalin

    Oh definitely. Nobody ever really complains about Dan playing bad because he even claims that he's not very good at video-games. People normally complain about Arin because he's so cocky and when something doesn't go his way, he just blames the game for it instead of admitting to his mistakes and horrible attention span. Paper Mario TTYD is a perfect example of that. Arin honestly made the series almost unwatchable with all of his pointless complaining while Dan was just having a good time with the game while Arin sat in the backseat criticizing the game for all of it's "flaws". (Not that TTYD is perfect by any means) And when they were stuck, Dan would almost have something figured out and Arin would just step in and be like "NO THAT'S WRONG" and halt progress even more because he doesn't want to think outside the box.

    Colton Waters It’s pretty relieving to know that Jon left when he did. If he stayed on the show, he’d probably start having incredibly high blood pressure from Arins ineptitude.

    I've always wondered why Arin never uses the shield. Because it's not just in 3D Zelda, he does it in 2D Zelda as well. Hell, in every game he plays in general he seems to just never defend. If you have to do anything besides jumping to avoid damage, it doesn't register in Arins head, it seems.

    The thing that upsets me most about the bomb bag incident isn't that he forgot that he had a bomb bag, it's that he was so convinced that he didn't have a bomb bag that he didn't bother to check his inventory for it. It's not that he's wrong, it's never been that Arin's wrong, it's that he's wrong but *thinks he's right and everyone else is wrong.* Egoraptor indeed, what fucking arrogance.
