Been doing a great job decluttering. An older person here and rarely buy anything online. Since I've made so much progress decluttering and experiencing a lot less daily stress, I seem to now have an aversion to recluttering and think about everything I bring in through my front door.

A lot of times I will put things in my Amazon cart but wait to actually order it. Many times I found I didn’t really want it after all.

I like to call it "pretend shopping." I LOVE to shop, in person and online. I try to feed that urge by shopping online, putting items in my "cart", I then sign out. I hop online a few days later and open my cart(s) and those items don't seem so appealing anymore so I delete them all. No.money spent or additional stuff in house - double bonus!

Thanks for the video, Katy. I used to be a chronic stuff shuffler! Our whole family environment was so stressful. The only way out is to declutter! Even though it was difficult. Thank you for the great advice!

Oh, yes!! I open mail over the recycling bin and a container. Handle it once! But then I realize I have been shuffling sh*t around from flat surface to flat surface. Maybe I'd be better off with no tables or drawers! Hmmm.....nope. lol

Wow you really described my life. I have started to Declutter since I found your channel and it feels good to get rid of things I do not use. You are so right that question is so important because I love to shop and it’s what I do for a living basically so recently I did start asking myself that and will not buy anything unless I know exactly where it’s going to be in my home. This has really helped me in deciding whether I want or need something. Thank you so much for your wisdom.

I have learned do not just "buy now," I use to be a shopaholic and perhaps some may think I still am, but I am decluttering and bringing in what will serve me, health wise, my daily home chores, etc., what I do now is put it in my inbox and think about it, research it "will this truly serve me," and yes I shop Amazon living in Mexico. The only way to get in quality items. I still seem to buy new books and when they get here, I think when will I have time to read it. So, this last book I ended up buying it was in my inbox for at least two weeks before following through with the purchase. That is the first time I did this for a book. I am a work in progress, and I now think all these "it will change my life" self-help books, I am realizing it is all bullsh_t and why I am finally buying books with my every purchase rule. Place it in my inbox and really think about it and do my research, will this truly serve me.

What do you do if your friends and family don’t respect that you are on minimalism journey, and they keep bringing you things and gifts, despite you politely asking them not to? (And get upset if you get rid of them)

Oh my word. You have me. I have done this to the point I only have a path threw my house. It makes me sick. All brand new things. Where to start? I’m so overwhelmed. Hubby says to save for yard sale. Then I just end up with more boxes waiting for a yard sale. Can I just throw new in package things out? I need permission. It’s in my mind and heart. I just want to give it away.

I'm at a point where all the things that could be returned to a store have been returned. I am a teacher and single parent. The $500 or so I returned fed us over the summer. The decluttering has slowed down until next summer, but my mindset has changed and I only bring through my front door things that will be consumed quickly. I have found so many things I had repurchased because I couldn't find an item. I sold a few high dollar items on Nextdoor and gave a lot of things away. You can do this and it's a process. You can get started today. Start with one room. I'm not stressed at home anymore.

Thank you for the video, Katy ❤️😊 I have a question: what do I do if my spouse doesn’t want ME to get rid of MY things? He doesn’t want me to declutter my own things…he is afraid we might need it. Many people have said, “Start with decluttering your own things and it is likely that your family and spouse will see the advantages and begin to declutter their own things”…but this can’t happen if my hubby is afraid to let me get rid of my own things 😞 Not only that, my kids don’t want me to get rid of MY STUFF. I feel like I’m drowning in the clutter…. I’ve been wanting to clear out the clutter for years. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you and God bless you!

@@katyjoywells thank you! I actually started doing that after I wrote the post…and it’s getting better! I think I’m discouraged because even if I got rid of all my stuff, the house would still be overrun…but hopefully, as I’m decluttering the things that I can, he and my kids will begin to get on board. I’m praying this will work! Thanks again and God bless you!
