Found an emergency CB radio after we moved a few miles out of town away from my friends. By 16 I was modding CB radios for friends, fixing mics and meter lights, installing antennae/radios in cars and homes... Ended up getting a degree and working in the field, mostly, for about 30 years.

2 of my favorite hamtubers. I received a present of a pair of CB 100mW walkie talkies around 1970 or so. Then a regenerative SW receiver I built as a kit, with maybe 50 feet of wire from my window to a tree. So it began.

That was great, Sean is loving the DX 50 wire .made a video on it. I got some as well. handles NY winters just fine. Sean sells some 3D printed antenna kits or just the winder base. I made a end fed half wave with the DX 50 wire and Sean's winder base. works great ! jumping out of a good airplane to talk on HAM radio can be quite fun. love this hobby. just so much to do with it. never board. look at Jim W6LG he was a ham since 1964. still loves ham radio . Cheers from NY,USA !!

As a youngster in the 70's I was surrounded by the CB craze with its local and "skip" communications, however when my family got a Realistic Globester 5, I learned what shortwave was and that got me into amateur radio. I tinkered on everything I could, also.

I got into ham radio because of storm chasers. I have a fascination with severe weather. It was back when phones were available but still expensive.

My love of radio started when my uncle got me walkie talkies that operated on cb channel 14 for Christmas one year. I made a contact with a kid up the street one day, we visited and became friends.

@@DXCommanderHQ Well heck, I didn't know you were a Jack of Photoshop too! yeah, it's a great job. You made me think about it a bit more, and as a kid, THAT was my first radio. 49mhz and had morse code charts front. Key down and hit the orange button to dit, dah or just agitate a teacher.
