This is how I steal a PIN code | Timon Krause | TEDxAmsterdam
Timon Krause, Henning Neidhardt (piano & composer) & Kevin Wolf (drums) perform part of their MINDGAMES theater s Timon Krause studied philosophy and works as an entertainer, author and consultant around the world. He specialises in teaching businesses how to use the skillset of a mentalist. Timon is the current holder of the title 'Best European Mentalist' and the youngest mind reader to ever have been awarded this title. Currently, Timon is touring the Netherlands with Henning Neidhardt and Kevin Wolf. Together, they perform their show “MINDGAMES” - a mix of mind reading, music and live hypnosis. Henning Neidhardt works as a pianist and musical director, composing music to fit the occasion. Kevin Wolf makes his living as a drummer and musical coach, specialising in exploring new and uncharted technological territory. Together, Henning Neidhardt and Kevin Wolf create the live soundscapes and specialised underscores during Timon Krause's performances. Simple. Notice how he forcefully said to look at him? When he went through the numbers, the hand had very little to do with it. He was watching the mouth and eyes. Subtle movements show the performer what the key points are. His statement that when told not to think of something, we immediately think about it, is a huge hint that a moment later when asked not to think about his pin number, he did. His lips would have moved slightly as he mentally read out the number. Performer then only has to watch for the eyes looking slightly away as he reads out the numbers to confirm what he already knows. Takes years to learn to read it fast and precisely, which is why it is so impressive to watch.

Why is everyone complaining? Mentalists and magicians NEVER explain how their tricks work. Also, if you watched closely and listened carefully you would have been able to explain his techniques to yourselves. It's very well known how mentalists read and manipulate minds, and Timon is using exactly the same techniques: 1. giving suggestions and watching for physical reactions (e.g. feeling the man's muscle tension in the fingers while counting from 1 to 0), 2. using his knowledge about probabilities (e.g. knowing that many middle-aged men try to trick the mentalist by thinking about the next number in the PIN, or that most people who don't think about a blue lion in a circle are drawn to the number 9). Of course the first trick could have been set up, but: Timon very impressively showed how predictable humans are, because we all think alike. An example from everyday life: good salespersons read our reactions and know what to say in order to make us buy stuff we actually don't need. (This is pretty much what other TEDx speakers tell us in a very explicit way - and they get praised for it.) You can learn a lot from his performance if only you were willing to!
After coming out of Timon's hypnosis, I have strange desire to perm my hair.
The PIN code is a paid actor

i was waiting for a VPN commercial near the end :)))))
I have to say, it was a nice show. It's just entertainment, but... Andrew, who came "all the way" from Engla... i mean, the back, was probably well aware of what was gonna happen. Not saying he's part of the group of performance but maybe he was picked out beforehand and told to act like the number was his PIN. So many options here. I'd be impressed if they convinced me that the guy was chosen completely random (by the audience for example). Also, this aint no TED talk. This is just a show.

The top row of numbers on a phone (or ATM) keypad is 1, 2, 3. On a calculator keypad, the top row of numbers is 7, 8, 9. Once, I was at an ATM, and instead of punching in the "phone" shape for the amount I wanted to withdraw, I punched in the "calculator" shape for the amount (because money = math = calculator), and then I wondered why the machine didn't dispense my money. Fortunately, I figured out what I had done wrong, and was then able to get my money.

It might’ve been staged, but he did seem to be using real techniques in these two vids. Associating a response with a trigger (the first vid) is a common hypnosis technique. The finger-pushing thing in this vid, while typically done with the mark’s extended arm, is a way to tell if they agree or disagree with a simple statement, which is why he led with “is your number...” and then counted up. Each finger push told him yes or no to the individual number he called while pressing, though doing it with multiple fingers was just for show. He could’ve just repeatedly pressed the same finger while counting up and gotten the same results. Though the point of this one is that it *was* rigged. He had the second guy’s wallet.
