    The only reason I haven’t been using the suction method is the fear of small debris getting left behind at the bottom of pan and cooler, but changing every 3-5k miles this really shouldn’t be a problem as you mentioned! I think I may switch to this method for the convenience.

    I agree draining oil is the best method, but so much work. In my buddy’s BMW you don’t need to take any of the under trays to drain oil. I use this method 4 out of 5 times and then drain whenever I am not lazy and want to check up the bottom of the car. :-)

    @@AccentOnCars Yeah! Both of my BMWs have a nice little access door to make changes much easier. Wonder why Mercedes makes you remove 3 panels on some models 😂That sounds like a good idea, do a proper drain every once in a while!

    I have the same car but 2008. I tried the manual pump extractor but have switched to an electric pump.Much faster.You also have to drain the oil that's in the oil cooler yes as well.

    Yep. Draining oil from both drains is the best, but so much work. Like I said I tested how much oil was remaining in there after the extractor by undoing both bolts: main one and cooler. The amount of oil left in there was negligible. What electric extractor are you using?

    Totally unrelated to this, but what is the dual knob to the right of the lighting controls? The knob itself controls chirp volume, and the 3-position ring turns on an orange or green light, and shoots two blue LEDs on the instrument cluster at me while chirping. Everything about it seems like some kind of radar, but my manual has nothing to say about radar. I’m about halfway through reading it. Thanks!

    @@AccentOnCarsso I have a 2008 E63, and there’s a two-piece knob in my dashboard right between the steering column and the panel housing the lighting selector and headlight washer button. It’s a knob with a ring at its base, and both turn. The ring has a red line on it, showing its position, and an indent in the knob, showing its position. There is a blue LED on either side of my instrument cluster that are invisible until the ring is moved to either ”on” position, to the left or right of 12 o’clock.

    How much oil do you extract out of the M156 with this method?

  • @AccentOnCars

    @AccentOnCars

    Жыл бұрын

    About the same as I put in: between 8-8.5 quarts. There isn’t really that much difference between this and traditional method. I change oil using the old school method though every 2 oil changes or whenever I feel like getting under the car. Technically you’re supposed to put in 9 quarts of oil but my dipstick shows above maximum when I pour that much.

  • @AccentOnCars

    @AccentOnCars

    Not really. In my experience about 0.5 liters or less oil comes out of the cooler. If you change oil frequently it’s negligible. One note: the plug on the cooler shouldn’t be tightened too much or you can overturn it.

    I’d personally get a new one. But if you want to try one idea that comes to mind is taking the cooler off of the car, re-thread, test, wash really well before putting back on the car.
