We're in Glasgow, Scotland! We're exploring this amazing city in the UK. Starting out at the historic Glasgow Cathedral and Necropolis. We try some traditional Scottish food from a Chippie (Scotch Pie and deep fried Mars bar). We also visit the oldest pub in Glasgow called Scotia Bar. Later in the video we head to the trendy area of Glasgow, the West End where we try some local beer at Bookclub and walk along Ashton Lane.

My husband’s office is in the west end (ooooh I spent many a night crawling out of Vodka Wodka in Ashton Lane!) and to answer your question about house prices… our house is a 40min drive from Glasgow and it’s a 3 bed, 2 bathroom, 2 lounges, and a separate office space and utility room detached house and he paid £200k for it in 2006. Meanwhile his boss, at the same time, paid in the region of 300k for an upper 1 bed, 1 bathroom apartment in the west end. 😬😬😬😬

I was born in Glasgow, 1948, behind the Royal Infirmary in a large Slum Tenement triangle of Alexandra Parade, Wishart St and James Orr St, most of which was pulled down decades ago for the extension of the Royal Infirmary and the only green grass I ever knew was the grass in the Cemetery you visited that's part of the Glasgow Cathedral and to this day when I smell that freshly cut grass smell it gives me flashbacks of when we used stand up on the Tombstones and fall into the large piles of fresh cut grass... I left there in 1966, never lived there again.

The Salon Cinema...was one of my favourites. It was the oldest still operating cinema in Glasgow before its demise in the 1990's - which was achieved in some highly suspicious circumstances. Campaign was ongoing to restore and maintain it as Glasgow's oldest operating cinema, but on turning up for work one day in 1992 staff found themselves locked out with no warning or notice. The cinema seating was ripped out one night (so it could not be used again as a cinema). It lay derelict for several years until converted into a restaurant, against strong public opinion. The loss of the beautiful, historic early cinema features is greatly mourned.

@@lorrainehamilton5051 sadly I believe just about every transaction in Glasgow is dodgy. George Square is a den of iniquity imo, no matter who's in charge. I truly don't believe anyone with any influence believes this is a city worth fighting for. It should be possible to create a new future without deliberately trashing the past. Sad.

As a Glaswegian I thank you for filming the City I love and, you are correct, as people from the city are Glaswegians and “Weegie” is a term of endearment😀what always amazes me is the number of people in the City who have never seen some of the places you highlight such as the Glasgow Necropolis or The Cathedral. Also you will find some of the finest architecture in Europe within the City such as the City Chambers which has been used for a few Holywood movies with the Cathedral and Necropolis used for filming Batman and Batgirl and the recent Indiana Jones movie was filmed in the City Centre. I was glad you both enjoyed your time in Glasgow and hope that it won’t be too long before you return😀

I would disagree that Weegie is always a term of endearment , it tends to be used by snobby people to describe the lower class Glaswegians , so amongst friends no problem , but I would avoid telling visitors to call people Weegies , it might backfire on them . "Weegie is a slang term referring to people from Glasgow in Scotland, It is a contraction of the word Glaswegian, referring to people from Glasgow. An informal and, to some, insulting term in Scotland."

Thank you for a lovely video, welcome back! Glaswegian is totally correct! Walking tours of the Necropolis are a great way to hear the stories, see the graves of some very famous people and not so famous buried there, it also sits beside Glasgow Royal Infirmary (hospital) which has a famous history itself including surgeon Joseph Lister’s development and introduction of antiseptic practices in the 1860’s which saved many a life. Great wee hour or two can be spent covering the cathedral, necropolis and other landmarks in that square mile. Another way is the local double decker city tour bus, ideal if your not a great walker, there is also one that serves afternoon tea along the way 😁. Glasgow has such history and an abundance of great places to visit in close proximity to each other for all ages, come and visit us you’ll be given a great welcome. 🥰

Loved this video! Glasgow is very underrated, especially by youtubers who prefer to visit Edinburgh cos it's prettier. You are so right about the river Clyde being underused in Glasgow, I wish it was used more. The last time I was in the Scotia I sat exactly where Trevor did! I am not a fan of Tennants though! Next time you're in Glasgow I would recommend visiting the West Brewery at Glasgow Green. The West End is increasingly expensive to stay in, both for locals and tourists, so you might be better finding a place outside of the city and getting the bus or train in.

Fortunate as an American to work in Glasgow for four months. Great city. Spot on comment in video about difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Stayed almost next door to the Scotia bar. Bar is so old that the street has risen over the many years. Door to the bar is a bit low! The bar across the street has a mural of Alex Harvey. If you are a Scot you know all about the Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Not that I look for it, but I haven't seen anywhere (other than Edinburgh - for the tourists) selling a deep-fried Mars bar! As a Glasweigan, it's definitely a cringe point for us (sorry).

The West end of Glasgow is indeed the most prosperous part of the city with house and rent prices much higher than other areas. Incidentally western areas of many UK cities are the same with the theory being they suffered less from the smog and pollution associated with 19th Century industrial towns as for most of the time the prevailing winds come from the West.

Thanks for saying Glasgow properly. Too many Americans say it wrong.. I know you guys are from Canada though :) heads up! Edinburgh, it’s said like “Ed-in-brah”. You guys were so close to passing the test as well haha! Oh well, next time. The Clydeside bit you walked down with the bridge, bike lane etc.. that part can be a little dangerous to walk sometimes. Particularly at night. Lots of junkies. Maybe watch out for that! Few wee other things I can think of are.. Deep fried mars bar! Again, someone else sent it; but it’s not really a local thing. It’s a tourist thing. West end = very expensive to live. Hipsters galore. Glaswegians is the correct term, not an insult when shortened :) (I’m Glaswegian). Lastly it was cool to hear you guys talking about authenticity. Glasgow truly is more local associated and it’s nice to hear an outsider’s perspective. Particularly when it’s casting new light on things you’ve seen every day. So thanks! :)

Glasgow certainly appears to be a vibrant city and worth a visit. Thanks for the journey.
