This is BETTER than Kawasan Canyoneering! 🇵🇭

Wonderfalls, also known as Alegria Canyoneering, is an excellent alternative to Kawasan Falls Canyoneering, also known as Badian Canyoneering, for those who want a less crowded experience.
We would argue this is the better experience of the two!

For a few years in the past, three towns (Alegria, Badian and Dalaguete) were fighting for two of the biggest attractions in Cebu for ownership: Alegria versus Badian for the very popular Kawasan canyoneering and Badian versus Dalaguete for the famous Osmena Peak. The Cebu provincial government settled the matter amicably through revenue sharing which the three LGUs eventually agreed. Osmena Peak is actually part of the Badian Mountain Range (the biggest and highest mountain in Cebu) as it lies within the Badian territory but most visitors/tourists to the peak go through Mantalongon which is part of Dalaguete as it has the easiest access. On the other hand, the canyoneering tour, by tradition, usually starts in Alegria side but always end up in Badian part of the river as the culmination of every canyoneering tour. Before, Badian LGU protested Alegria-based canyoneering operators should not take their guests to Kawasan Falls because that was an intrusion already to their territory. The river bears two names depending on which territorial boundary it is running through: The river is called Canlaob River by Alegria residents and Matutinao River by Badian residents. Along this river, come dozens of little tributaries in the form of springs that ooze out of the side of the canyon. The biggest of these springs is the Kabukalan Spring that is claimed by Badian as the source of Matutinaos River, thus giving rise to Kawasan Falls system which is comprised of over a dozen falls and cascades in multiple levels.

Very interesting. I think, since there is revenue sharing, adventurers or canyoneers should have the option of starting from Alegria and then continue on to Badian or Kawasan Falls. That would be the cayoneering on steroids! 😎👍

@@golfgunsandcocktailschannel I think that's not practical because the Badian canyoneering alone already takes up to 4 hours and some participants must be very exhausted by then. If they take both courses (Alegria and Badian) I don't think participants would be able to complete every jump or make it to the main level of Kawasan Falls without getting physically and emotionally drained. And that's not enjoyable at all.

Wrong. Badian govt back in the day is really greedy. They even claimed that Kanlaob is theirs. Haha but if you ask the locals within that vicinity where they're from . they would answer without that they're from alegria. Therefore Kanloab river is in Alegrias territory. There was a trial back in the day and DENR grant it in badians favor. So happy that the governor took her part in meddling between 2 towns issue. and it's been awarded to the rightful owner. Sadly, turns out that our own Govt in Alegria is Greedy too. There are certain areas /rivers in that thing they call WONDERFALLs which restricted to people who doesn't wanna do canyoning. Even us locals are not allowed to go in that area (if you don't wanna do canyoning). Shoutout to our Mayor in Alegria. Let the locals access those areas. It's not yours, don't be greedy!!!! palihug lang!

While most people know it as the perfect vacation spot - which it is - it’s so much more than that. Cebu offers a unique travel experience as it is a place where the bustling city and paradise meet. Cebu is the place that many people consider to offer the perfect blend of city life and suburban life. There isn't a shortage of explorations to do in Cebu. Cebu has a lot to offer. Beyond being a center for trade and commerce, Cebu has always been a gateway for tourism. It has also been recognized by UNESCO as a “Creative City,” making it more attractive to local and foreign visitors. Cebu has everything you’re looking for.

Wow! I never knew about this part of canyoneering in Cebu. This seems more extreme and strenuous than in Badian. You have to be more physically fit to do this adventure because there's a lot of hiking, climbing, jumping, trekking and everything else. When we did the canyoneering in Badian, I handed my camera/video gears to our guides because it's just too hard to do and enjoy this adventure with just one free hand and holding the camera with my other hand. I would say my guides did a phenomenal job of filming our adventure. There's more fun in the Philippines, indeed! Cheers! 😎👍

Back in the day, before the restrictions, the Cebu Canyoneering literally starts in Alegria and exits in Kawasan Falls in Badian. Basically, the place offers two types of canyoneering, The upstream and the downstream canyoneering. Of course, upstream is more physically demanding and may be suitable only for those that are really physically fit. In our case, we opted for the downstream canyoneering which was just fitted for beginners like us. The canyoneering will run from three to four hours, depending on your power and speed. Based on the local tourism rules, the earliest group can start the activity at 6 AM. The latest is at 3 PM. In saying that, you can still do both courses in one day, but you’ll need to exit the river at the end of the Alegria course and hike up the canyon back to the starting point. That was honestly the most tiring part - it’s steep. From there you drive to the Badian briefing centre before going back down into the canyon with all new gear and guides. You’ll also need to book two separate tours with Alegria and Badian authorities. It’s a lot of hassle and we really wish they could find a way to make this easier for people like it used to be, as the swap takes up so much time.

Did you know that, as per the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the entire Canyoneering area is technically under the jurisdiction of Alegria? However, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Badian, despite not receiving approval from the DENR's mapping, was allowed by Alegria to incorporate it into their tourism industry. Unfortunately, when the LGU of Badian failed to address the violations indicated by the Cebu Provincial Government and DENR, resulting from illegal infrastructures and activities, the Badian Canyoneering had to be closed. When it was time for Alegria to regain control of the area that rightfully belonged to them, Badian took the step of closing the 4th Jump of Kawasan Canyoneering and denied access to Canyoneering Guests from Alegria. In reality, Alegria has ownership rights up until the 7th Jump. Alegria offers a multitude of enjoyable experiences because they prioritize Sustainable and Eco-Tourism over Mass Tourism. One of the reasons they have fewer guests is because their tour operators strictly adhere to the Tourism Carrying Capacity, a practice that Badian failed to implement. Both routes, however, have their own merits.

Alegria Canyoneering in Alegria Cebu, an amazing combination of adrenaline-pumping or death-defying activities like jumping from the cliff and a relaxing activity like swimming and a little of trekking. Not to be confused with the canyoneering in Badian that leads to the famous Kawasan Falls, the canyoneering Cebu in Alegria is a different stretch of that same river, with its own beautiful sights, obstacles and challenges. Alegria is on the west coast of South Cebu, about 40 minutes from Moalboal or 3 hours from Cebu City. The canyoneering Cebu course in Alegria is further south from Badian and does eventually meet up with the Badian course, however you can’t just continue downriver all the way to Kawasan Falls. Back in the day you could simply start in Alegria and keep going until you reached Kawasan, but these days there are restrictions in place that make this impossible.

Dubai is of another level or criteria. Their main competition is New York, SG, Tokyo, London, and those all other financial cities. We cant compare what Ph has to offer vs those cities bec our primary tourist attractions are not big modern buildings and shopping district but pristine beaches and wonders of nature. Maldives meanwhile is a prime luxury destination. We also have luxury resorts but usually not open to anyone. Our competition in general is Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand. Vietnam, Cambodia. Thailand should be our benchmark when it comes to tourism. We also have competition with Carribeans and Lat Am countries that share the same offerings.
