My FIL used to work for Overnite and UPS, and I can't imagine him refusing to deliver. Glad you were able to get the setup. YT can make things seem easier than they are, but watching Barron install those panels during the rain on your metal roof after hauling each one up a ladder was a reality check. Y'all are stronger in so many ways because of how you've allowed this life to teach you.

Put peppermint oil in your car it will keep mice away put on a cotton ball and place under the hood. We had mice problems in our home, I read up what can keep them away. We ended up catching them all then put peppermint oil all over the house. In corners etc. This was in the house but I am sure it would work for the car too. We have not had a mouse in the house since and that was a year ago. So try that. Worth a shot.

Critters that chew are endless! We've had damage to all three vehicles, living in a similar climate, also with no garage. Instead of scents we use ultrasonic rodent repellers, which flash strobes and generate very high pitched noises. In my RV, I have a Loraffe unit wired to the engine battery. I use a solar panel on the roof to run a 12V charger to keep that system nicely charged. In the Tacoma and Bolt, we have battery powered Loraffe units that run on pairs of C-cells. We got lithium C's that have a USB C port for charging, and they last about 3 weeks on a charge. This mostly does the trick, but Frank also added some 1/4 inch welded wire screen on top of the cabin air filter in his Tacoma. It got invaded much like your Subaru did, they built a nest on top of the filter. I wish vehicles were designed to keep rodents out! It's just one of the difficulties of a rural lifestyle. By the way, I have a spare Loraffe unit, the kind that runs on C cells. You could try it out really easily, and order some for your own vehicles if you like it.

Baron. You can add a resistor(s) to reduce fan speed to suit. Borrow a bench power supply. Adjust voltage to the desired speed with car running. Note the voltage drop you need. Note current, too. Divide the two to get resistance. Power rating is current squared times Resistance. Amazon will sell you resistor(s). Drone will deliver, oh, not that far out.haha!

Also yes there are some trade offs like not being able to do laundry at night but the trade offs are easy, small life changes that anyone can make with the right resources and information. Even with 800 watts of solar you can easily light your home any time, cook on infra red appliances, power your computers and devices, and run a water pump for your sink whenever you want. Washing machines can be added at this amount of solar, but you will have to compensate some of the washing and drying abilities with natural solar sources and smaller appliances.

@@feliciajohanna1031Maybe I'm not understanding, or you're priveledged enough to have some pre-existing assets, but I feel like you're missing very major steps if we're talking about setting up off-grid for the *future* and being able to meet your physiological needs of food, shelter, water, and rest. If you're intending to set up shelter and make efforts to become fully self-sustainable, you're going to first need land and shelter (even if you're not building a home, you can compare it to when these guys first moved on to their land - they still needed their vehicle and Scamp). If we're talking about becoming nomadic, you need shelter, transportation, and money to keep you going long enough to either make more remotely or become completely self reliant. This is why so many van life influencers are young folks who used their daddy's money to commit to that investment or who didn't budget correctly and are now faking their KZread videos by either hiding the fact that they are not full-time off-grid and are couch crashing or something, or are being disingenuous and are glamorizing the life they are _actually_ having in having to move their vehicle every night or multiple time a night because they're staying in parking lots, have no money to drive their home or eat (or who haven't had a well-balanced meal in months), or who don't have the ability to take care of their own hygiene (the young women who are acting like it's not _terrifying_ to be alone and sleeping in a vehicle at night get me the most). It's a HUGE up front investment plus way more money until you finally don't have to keep going back on the grid to stock up. I have a little over $5K in my bank account right now and I can guarantee I would not be able to go off-grid with that. A _reliable_ car + insurance + trailer (or van) and the equipment I'd need would drain me before I even got to food or gas. I really don't understand your thought process, but would definitely like to. I would _love_ to go off-grid. As a 29year old with nobody to gift me any of the things I need to do so and no pre-existing assets (which barely any millennial and definitely no Gen Z kids have), including a vehicle, there is no way that $5000 is going to cut it. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, since I've been here from the beginning (came for Elsa's body-painting videos), but didn't even these two move back in with their folks for a little bit to be able to save up to buy the Scamp? To have a wedding (and an extremely low-cost one, at that) my coworker/neighbour and his fiancé had to rely on the graciousness of their parents and move back in so that they could actually save. We both have above-average-paying jobs, too, and him and his wife split the rent (I pay $2200 for a one-bedroom apartment). It's damn near impossible to save, now. I sincerely hope you don't take this as an attack, but I feel like everyone underestimates the cost of actually doing something like this.

Soft maple trees (sugar maples) are the source of a sap that is tapped from the inner bark during early spring when the sap starts moving in the trees. It's then slow boiled to reduce to thick syrup. About 10 gallons of sap = 1 gallon of syrup.

It's actually 40 gallons sap to one of syrup, which helps to explain why maple syrup is so expensive. Continued boiling and prep beyond the syrup stage, done right, will produce maple butter, and even further boiling to a candy stage will produce maple candy.

We (my guy) just installed solar on our 24 ft 2013 travel trailer. We just camped off grid last weekend and loved every second ! Hoping to take 3 months south and west and north and west next year just bouncing around to all the sights.

Nice job by you and your friend on the blower 👍👍. I love pure maple syrup too. And no, I don’t think of pine trees when thinking of the syrup. 🤣
