It would probably be a good idea, but to be honest, I was impatient and didn't wait on this one and have had no issues.

Yeah it has to be. Otherwise you’re going to have all the fibres split and mold grow in them before you can see it.

What type of vegetable oil is best? Maybe sesame oil is the most fitting?

just a regular veg or canola oil. Sesame will be way too strong flavoured.

sorry for the slow reply. I've never not done it. I've been told it helps to inhibit mold so I would do it personally.
