Nhl highlights today pittsburgh penguins vs toronto maple leafs was... interesting to say the least and even with sidney crosby evgeni malkin erik karlsson kris letang the pens are drowning. The penguins vs maple leafs highlights will show you what might be rock bottom, but they are in a deep hole and the playoffs look unlikely. Kyle dubas return to toronto was also pretty funny as leafs fans chanted his name mid-game. Nhl toronto maple leafs pittsburgh penguins crosby malkin will have some reflecting to do. Nhl hockey tonight

I’ve been a die hard pens fan for over 15 years, and this is the worst I’ve ever seen them play. It’s a shame that we’re wasting the last few years of our core 3 playing like this. Also, worst mistake this team has made in the last decade was letting Fleury walk to the expansion draft. I really hope they can pull it together, but my hope is starting to run out.

The PP is unacceptable despite it picking up the last couple of games and yes Sully brought two cups to Pittsburgh but they are not playing systems well at all. I’d start there and then move to the players. Too good on paper to start moving players before coaches. Let someone else come in and try a different method. We’re already in a bad spot, worst to come of it is more of what we are seeing.

The Penguins' advanced metrics are actually better than league average, yet their actual production is garbage. Key depth scorers have either been hurt (Rust), or plain old underperforming (Smith). This seems to be impacting the power play, which is currently running at a 13% clip. Compounding this issue is the lack of power play opportunities, a trend that seems to follow all Dubas-run teams.

The Penguins feel a lot like the 2021-2922 Blackhawks. That was the year they brought in Seth Jones and Mark Andre Fleury in order to make another run with their two aging stars. That failed miserably. They also mortgaged away their future in the process. The big difference is that their Kyle came in and ripped off the Band-Aid, by moving on from their stars, and tearing the team down to the studs. At least they're not prolonging the misery the way Pittsburgh seems to be doing. And, I'd rather see Patrick Kane have a shot one more Cup with another team, than watch him wallow on a bad team for the sake of spending his entire career Blackhawk.

Is the psychodrama over a week later now? Have Jarry goal like we know he can (3 shutouts, could've had more). It's like it's either all or nothing, and none of this would be happening. Also, he was injured for a while, it's great Nedel is doing the job for the most part, being excellent often, even Hellberg won his start when Jarry was injured, but to me the issue is the many injuries and some issues within the net, Sid is producing as expected, so is Malkin at this age (he's on his way for a point-per-game season, not bad at 37, Guentzel isn't scoring as much, but it's just like roles are reversed between him and Sid this year which is weird, but still going to have a 90 pts season easy. The lot of injuries and the few young guys that should be doing well (Nylander : def not his brother, Sam Poulin, we haven't seen him play much since he was drafted, he's injured in the AHL and last year, he was on leave due to mental health issues, just as he was doing well with Scranton he gets injured, he should be with the team by now). A whole lot of bad luck and I've seen older teams win a stanley cup before with likely a bit less talent (2001-2002 Detroit Red Wings), I think the laws of average will catch up after the Holidays and things will get better, the most costly injured players are back,Rust will be soon and just Rackell makes Malkin's line much more complete, and he will unlock, even Josh Anderson finally unlocked with the Habs. They missed the playoffs by one win last year, I watched that last game of theirs which was all on their hands, slipping away and losing it, it hurt, hence the pride in Sid's play should get contagious and I'm not panicking yet for my second fav team.

Imo the problem doesnt have much to do with Crosby, Malkin, and Karlsson bc they’re all still playing great. The Letang contract is much worse but he’s still playing well at the moment too so that won’t be an issue for a couple more years. I think the main issues are consistency like you mentioned, but also lack of depth and everyone on the team being injury-prone. The goalies are the biggest inconsistency factor, but imo Karlsson may be part of that problem as well because he increases offense at the cost of defense.

This is the year that everyone is finally "right" about the Pens. They've gotten scammed a few times the past few years. And now everyone is yelling SEE! SEE! Some tough conversations are going to have to be had, but based on what he was able to give the Leafs year in and year out, I'm exited to see what he can do with a blank slate... even if in the short term THIS team makes me want to jump in the lake hah.

Crosby was the one who wanted to keep the band together and it's not going great( for now could change). All of the moves made by Dubas on the offseason looked good. Achari is a great bottom 6, Karlsson was a must add for this aging group to get their pp going. Other adds made perfect sense and I'd stand by my logic though again it's not working. Which was always a possibility.

I think Dubus acquired more of the kind of players we already had instead of the kind of players we really need. What we needed was better d men and tougher/bigger/stronger players..and some youth..I think the pens are now a half step slow and the tougher teams can just beat them up as usual..I was not in favor of acquiring Karlsson and was in favor of trading Malkin.

Dubas is a players pleaser. Hence the reason he traded for Karlesson to "go" for the cup. Did he really believe Pittsburgh has enough talent to do that? Not likely. This team missed the playoffs last year and brining a one great player does not elevate the team to contend. But as a newcomer, he probably did not have the guts to convey to the stars the team is too old and declining. In the long run, while Dubas is great at picking talents and even assembling a team, he is proven to be a terrible contract negotiator. For the Leafs, he he couldn't say no to the stars and consistently overpayed them resulting in not enough cap left to spend on the bottom six players. The Leafs team Dubas had built was good but not good enough to be successful in the playoffs year after year after year... Very frustrating for the fans.

You have this Pens roster 3-4 years ago give or take a few people, this is Hands down a cup winner, but alas, this team now is old and can’t finish or prevent enough goals from hitting the back of their net. Even if they somehow turn this around, the constant hard playoff push night after night at their age will cause them to fizzle at the end just like last year.

When SJ was hitting the playoffs every year for a decade, it was with unknown players. Players that you, unless you were a SJ fan, never paid attention to. Just because you have big names on your top line doesn't mean your franchise will succeed. That's why the Oilers keep failing, and its why SJ eventually failed. Buy big names for the top line, and the others fumble and lose the games. That's just how it goes in Hockey.

Doesn't help with the injuries we've had, we went on this losing streak when nieto, accari, rust, even rakell was still doing stuff to help the play, but it's been a terrible streak, tonight was just lack of depth and defense collapse and goailes probably tired lol. But hopefully they will bounce back, I think they need more speed, we keep getting beat to the puck, some of our lower guys have some speed but a jeff Carter, a zohorna, o connor hasn't been the greatest aswell idk why they see so much in him. I think if we don't make it this year the additional of yager and even Jesse pulijujarvi may help a little bit. But rn just slow and not defensive minded or even on the powerplay my God! I think if they switched the lw and rw and have the left shot on the right so they can shoot it quickly back there, they do dumb shots and rush plays

I'm definitely not unhappy with Dubas, the guy has done everything except fire the coaching staff... and I'm thinking more and more that the coaches are not the problem. This team is just past its expiry date and there's not much anyone can do at this point. It sucks for Crosby because he's still one of the best in the league.

The objective is to win the Cup every year. Realistically though there are some teams that know they are not going to win it this year so their objective is to get the team structure in a position that makes it possible for them to be able to transition to that objective as soon as possible. The Penguins are in some weird mind set right now where they are trying to cross their fingers and win through sheer will. It is not going to work and the sooner they realize that the team needs an overhaul the quicker they can get back to making winning the Cup their priority. Right now their priority is to keep the big three together and enhance that longevity record. Now the big question is this: Are the fans in Pittsburgh going to be content with that and go to the games just to see a legend or two or three continue to play or would they rather see a team that can challenge for the Cup? This team is not the latter.

Scooby doesn’t know how to evaluate what a team needs. Everyone could see the Pens needed secondary scoring behind 87, 71, and Guentzel. That 11 million could have gotten them Bertuzzi and Domi. Instead he got a more expensive and far inferior Letang type player in Karlsson.

You know it's rough when he starts recording the video before the game is even over. One thing that I think shouldn't go unsaid, on top of the Pens beginning to reach the end of their current era of success, is that the Leafs have a habit of playing bizarrely good when Matthews is unavailable. Almost like the rest of the team just kicks it into high gear when they know he isn't around to bail them out.

The Leafs play just as good without Matthews because they still have their best player on the ice in Marner. I've been saying it, they should've moved him and filled out the blue line with a couple quality shut down d and maybe grab a solid 2way middle six center if they still had room left for a team better suited for the playoffs. But I'm not a Leafs fan so it makes no difference to me...

Sullivan should have been gone two years ago, last year at best. He is unwilling to change the way his team plays based on personnel. He is trying to force a speed game with an older, slower roster. Time for him to walk home from a road game so he has time to rethink his strategy.Even Carter is now average in speed on this team. Half the defense think they are forwards. Between Malkin and Letang, they are going to turn the puck over at least 5 times per game between them. Karlsson providse zero defense, the job he is paid to do. Count on him to make some bad turnovers every game as well, then fail to get back on defense. It is no longer a team, just an group of players without a direction or leader.
