This Insect Is a Wasp Imposter

Ғылым және технология

Bee and wasp mimics are common insects that you might find in your yard. One key difference is the number of wings. Wasps and bees have four wings, while their mimics only have two. These mimics are a type of fly known as hoverflies, also called flower flies or syrphids.

You can also tell a hoverfly from a wasp because, as the name implies, it can hover in midair for a second or two, whereas the wasp will tend not to. You see the insect hovering repeatedly, dw, it's only a hoverfly, and ain't as dangerous as a wasp.

they do though! hoverflies are one of the most advanced insects in the world, because they can stay completely still in the air, "hovering" just like hummingbirds. it's an ability that other flies, wasps, bees and nearly every other insect with wings lack. hoverflies are incredibly important to the ecosystem. they're everywhere, they can't bite or sting or cause any harm whatsoever even though they look like bees/wasps BUT they're just as effective pollinators as them, heck they're even better! and because they mimic bees and wasps; they don't have many enemies, since other predators would very much rather not eat that day instead of getting stung by one. uhh im autistic can u tell

Hoverflys are very good for both gardens and gardeners. As larvae, they live in the ground, and they eat pests that could damage the root system. When they mature, the adults actually pollinate flowers, just like bees. They are one of the most useful members of the fly family.
