Side note: Yoda DOESN'T tell Luke he has to kill his father, he tells Luke he has to CONFRONT him. Pair that with the lesson of the Dark Side Cave, & I think Yoda was playing the long game.

Yoda by this point has grown much wiser, I think even more so than he was during the high and fallen Republic eras. He knows it's more nuanced than the black-and-white dogmatism he once preached. He's experienced a lot more. And I think he knew Luke had to learn through experience just as he did. The mark of a great teacher-- guide, but don't control. Demonstrate, but don't preach.

The thing that doesn't make sense is that Luke had already confronted Vader, and against Yoda's advice because he hadn't finished his training. Then what must have been the next time Luke talks to Yoda (else, why didn't he ask about the parentage reveal sooner) suddenly his training was complete and he has to confront Vader. So, what changed that made Luke ready? That he learned who Vader was to him? That could have been said before he confronted him last time.

@@shadout It's seasoning and time. Luke needed more time to cook. Seriously though, I think Obi Wan and Yoda weren't ready to tell him the truth. They would have told him when they thought he was mentally ready to hear it. They wanted to make sure that he was ready, but he left early. Yoda even confessed that when he said, "No. Unfortunate that you rushed to face him… That incomplete was your training. Not ready for the burden were you." This was about his mental condition, not physical. So, after he came back and had already heard the truth, there was nothing left for him to do but finish the job. They were afraid that the truth might cause him to go dark and they wanted to avoid that at all costs. He was their last hope. That was why his test at the cave was considered a failure because he wasn't supposed to kill Darth Vader. Yes, it's kooky, but it makes sense. So much of it is cloaked in innuendo and their mystical beliefs. But in the end, it's just a movie.

​@@BalokLives Yes, but Yoda really just wanted to roll over and die, without telling Luke the truth. It was only because Luke pressed him, that he admitted it. So it would seem that Yoda, wanted Luke to think that Vader was nothing more than a villain, for the final confrontation.....Even Ben made it clear that if Luke was unwilling to kill his own father, "Then the Emperor has already won." It seems that both Yoda and Ben thought Vader was unredeemable. Ben really tried to dehumanize Vader by saying he was 'More machine now than man.."' When Yoda says Luke was "Unready for the burden" He means, the burden of having to kill his own father. I assume that Yoda would have maybe wanted to tell Luke, during the continuous training on Dagobah, whereby Luke would have time to process it, and need to come to the understanding, that his father was evil and had to be eliminated for the greater good of the galaxy. But - Luke went off, got traumatized, and the next thing they knew, an opportunity arose to get Vader, so they tried to just hide it from him and send him on his way. It really seems that Yoda and Ben wanted Luke to assassinate Vader. I don't believe Yoda was so powerful, that he knew what was going to play out in the Emperors throne room. I think the dramatic irony of the situation, was that Luke's good heart, resolved the problem in an unexpected way. Which was, in a way, wiser than what the 2 old Jedis had in mind. (They were still pretty proud of how he did it, of course)

This movie is the culmination of two story arcs, the Hero's Journey of Luke Skywalker and the redemption of Aniken Skywalker. Two of the classic stories of all time.

I was 12 when Return of the Jedi came out in 1983. You can’t even imagine how hyped everyone was. Remember no Internet, rental movies were just coming on the scene, going to the theater to see this movie was a life-changing experience I’ll never forget 😊

I was 7 going on 8 in 83 when I saw it and I still remember it like it was yesterday. That night in the theater I could barely contain all the excitement, I was jumping up and down in my theater seat. I remember my mom telling my dad “Look, he’s so excited “! Now at the time, we didn’t know, after 40+ years how privileged and honored we were to have seen these movies in the theater. There was a special kind of magic seeing Return of the Jedi day one in 1983. Something the younger generations will never get to see. Yup, how lucky were we.😊

SoFie, you passed the Jedi Trial. You wept for Vader. 😰 👍👍 You saw that although Vader committed many horrible crimes, he also atoned for them by destroying the Emperor. He let go of decades of anger and hate and let his love for his son save the day. In his last minutes of life, he was a good man. He found salvation. That deserves compassion and respect.

Luke and Leia instantly felt a connection towards each others, being twins. They misunderstood it as an initial attraction but that was never the case. Remember she kissed Luke, purely to piss off Han. So when Leia says "she's always known" it's the connection between them they have always been aware of deep down.

I don't take Leia's "Somehow I've always known" as meaning that she consciously knew that Luke was her brother but rather that now she knows a lot of things fall into place.

Exactly, I kinda take it as it explains why she felt so strongly connected to Luke but had no romantic feelings, it was different. Also when he met Leia Luke was a naive farm boy who understandably meets a very beautiful strong person like Leia and not having any clue of any relation so it's not so surprising he initially might have a bit of a crush. And Leia only kissed him because she was trying to make Han jealous. Maybe I've just been desensitized about it from watching Game of Thrones lol.

Although, Ben was adamant, that if Luke wasn't willing to kill his own father, then the Emperor had already won. So, are Yoda and Ben on the same page? Ben wanted Luke to kill Vader. If Yoda wanted a non violent solution, He really should have talked to Ben about giving the kid bad advice.

While the prequels don't match the great storytelling of the original trilogy and Jar-Jar gets annoying, they are still entertaining and enjoyable movies. They give us backstory on many characters and introduce new ones, have great lightsaber fights and expand our horizons by showing more planets and life under the Old Republic, and answer those questions Sofie and most of the rest of us had after seeing the original trilogy.

Except when you are faced with the reality that a lot of terrible things are gonna happen and you have the chance to stop it, but even though that fleeting thought makes sense on a galactic level, you simply can't go through with it because family. That's the same Luke you believe in. You simply can't grasp it in the way that you need to. That's your failure.

That's what made Disney's choices so weird.

35:52 - One thing I really like about Darth Vader's redemption and death is that he died in order to save his family, which really has additional weight after seeing the prequels.

36:50 this scene is the reason why this is the best of the original trilogy. People cry and sad to see Darth Vader dying, the person who is so evil, and people actually are crying when he dies. That's why it's the best of the three.

Which, as author David Brin said, doesn't make sense. Vader is a thousand times WORSE than Hitler. In reality, he should have burned in hell (which doesn't exist).

One scene shouldn't determine the overall quality of the movie, in my opinion. Return of the Jedi absolutely nails its conclusion. But the movie overall is plodding, the script is meh and the Ewoks are a questionable addition. I think it's the weakest of the original trilogy.

It's the best scene I agree. But it's not the best movie. Empire is best. But let's face it. When comparing the Original Trilogy it's like comparing a 10 to two 9's so if someone likes Jedi more because it resolves the story or because they just love the huge battles and this scene so much... I mean. Whose to argue?

@@spccewe7223 Carrie Fisher said many times that somehow the idea of her in a metal bikini was both the producers' greatest fantasy and worst nightmare, as they kept demanding she lose weight for the scene.

As a kid watching these films (I was born in 1974), a lot of us were hugely inspired by the special effects. We bought all the 'making of' magazines etc, so watched these films knowing that the space ships etc were real and like the world's best toys! it was really inspiring stuff.

@@SGlitz Yeah it always did bother me they erased the original actor's image and replaced it with the young Hayden. Then again I hated a lot of the changes to the original trilogy they made. I can understand cleaning up certain shots and backgrounds a bit for Blu Ray etc but adding new cgi characters always bothered me.

Under the Jedi Order of the Old Republic, building a lightsaber was the final task of a Padawan before being advanced to Jedi. So Luke built his green one, completing his tasks as a learner. Keep what Yoda actually says in mind. Yoda only says Luke must confront Vader. Its Luke and Obi-Wan who take that to mean kill.

I sometimes wonder if Darth Vader when he detects Luke's thoughts about his sister, does Vader think "Shit, I tortured her back on the first Death Star."

So much credit to James Earl Jones (Voice of Vader) and David Prowse (Body of Vader) for their performances in this film. They seamlessly worked together to convey so much emotional conflict onto an emotionless canvas and literally the only complaint I can give for their performances was the cringy and needless "NO!" at the end that was only added in the remastered version. The original was so much more impactful. Vader doesn't say a word, just looks at the situation and finally acts. It was such a powerful act of love and sacrifice that, again, is being perfectly conveyed through a faceless automaton. Phenomenal acting.

Many people still don't know that it didn't take 2 people to portray Darth Vader, it took 3. Legendary Bob Anderson secretly wore the suit during most scenes in the trilogy when Vader is using a lightsaber. After it being a secret for a long time, Mark Hamil told George Lucas that he wasn't comfortable keeping the secret anymore and wanted Bob to get the credit he was due so he revealed the secret. I guess when you have the greatest villain in the history of cinema you need 3 talented people to make him a reality.

In order to become a full Jedi Knight, an apprentice must confront and defeat his/her greatest fear. In Luke's case, it was confronting his own father and the danger of becoming just like him. One's path to the Dark Side always begins with one's fears, for they lead to anger, then to rage and hate, and then to violence, pain and suffering.

Originally Luke's sister was supposed to be someone we never meet in the trilogy. Instead, we were to meet her in the sequels. She was supposed to be someone who had already fallen to the dark side, and the sequels were supposed to be about Luke finding her and turning her back to the light. But by the time ROTJ was being filmed, Lucas was so tired and fed up with the struggle of the production process that he just wanted to be done with Star Wars altogether, so he changed Luke's sister to Leigh.

That may have been an idea Lucas would've eventually gone with, but the idea that he was working with was that Luke falls to the dark side and the sister brings him back to the light.

Yes, the prequels are indeed about him. The whole Star Wars saga is about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. (The George Lucas saga that is.)

This will always be the best Star Wars trilogy. Making the audience cry over Vader's death is a testament to the older films' writing.

As a old school star wars fan. At 33:51 can you hear Vader take a deep breath. It came out in 83 but also like dont poke a bees nest. Vader (Anakin knew it was over) his arrogance gone. But people miss, Luke really did turn to the dark side there. It is like Anakins love for Padme, Lukes for his sister..people never get the correlation.

I cried when i watched the ending of this movie too, I wish Darth Vader could have spent more time with his kids.

The dark side is like a drug. It is extremely seductive and addictive, it changes how you think and behave, and it is very hard to turn back to the light once you start using the dark. The dark side isn’t a guarantee that the user will be evil, but most of the times that seems to be the case, that said the dark side of the force itself is not evil. The dark side is fueled by passion and emotion where the light side is not. Also, everyone cries for Darth Vader. You’re not alone. You think this is sad, I can’t wait to see how you handle the end of Episode III.

I walked out of that theater at age 17 so happy and so sad. Star Wars was the greatest thing to me for 7 years. I walked into the theater at age 10 to watch Star Wars and came out of another at age 17 holding hands with my first girlfriend. I was so thrilled, but also so dad to know it was over.

I was 3 when Star Wars came out, 6 when Empire released, and 9 years old for RotJ. Star Wars was my entire childhood identity lol. But between 1983 and and 1999, those three films were (more or less) all the Star Wars there was, and as far as we knew for years and years - all there ever would be. I don't know how deep you plan to go in getting caught up on all the great (and not so great) movies and tv shows that have been released since, and it probably seems pretty daunting seeing how much there is to watch, but I, for one, continue to be *incredibly* grateful to have so many stories being made to explore the vast universe that was such a fundamental playground for my childhood imagination. I hope you continue to enjoy this journey through a galaxy far, far away, wherever it takes you.

I was the same age for them as you. I was living on campus at Uni when the preview for The Phantom Menace was shown here (in Australia the TV 'The Panel'. They somehow managed to get world first exclusive. ). When it was over I could hear so many "Holy S#$t" and "Did you see that!" coming from all over campus. After going for so long with just the Original Trilogy it was such a HUGE event having a new Star Wars movie. Whatever you think of The Phantom Menace it was so amazing to see NEW Star Wars on the big screen again.

What an emotional rollercoaster Sofie. This one hit me deep always. I cannot wait to see the prequels joining you!!

One of the great tragedies of this film m is that it doesn’t explain Luke’s jump in power in the year between Empire and Jedi. There’s a great scene in the book _Shadows of the Empire_ where Luke is almost killed and narrowly evades death. After playing the events over in his head, he realizes that he’s been doing the training and exercises that Yoda taught him, but he’s not _letting_ the Force work through him; he’s just trying to command it. Once he starts try to work _with_ the Force instead of [ironically] trying to force it to do what he wants, he immediately becomes much more formidable, because he HAS been training the whole time, after all…

In the end, I found peace and freedom

Love your reaction to the sibling reveal. Hilarious as you put all the pieces together. And then reacting to “That bad, huh.” Awesome. Please keep up the reacting to specific lines like that. You’re one of the best thank you.

The irony is if the emperor had eased up just a little bit, he would've influenced Luke to join him. Luke was on the cusp after becoming enraged, but Ol' Palps kept taunting him.

Man the casting for the emperor is just perfection and he’s even better in the prequel trilogy and really steals every scene he’s in and the actor is clearly having such a good time playing the role

Another great reaction. The speeder chase was amazing on the big screen. The original release had the older version of Anakin Skywalker's "ghost". When the prequels came out, this movie was re-edited to show a younger "hot" version. It will make sense when you watch episodes I-III

Yoda used the word "confront", not the word "kill". Luke assumes Yoda means for him to kill his father, but that is not what Yoda said, and that is not what Luke does. Luke DOES "confront" Vader in his attempt to pull him back to the light. Luke does NOT kill Vader, he does NOT strike down the Emperor, nor does he destroy the Sith. Vader is defeated by the tiny bit of Anakin Skywalker that remained. (Thus the titular "Jedi" who returned must be Anakin, just momentarily prior to joining the living force.) Vader is destroyed by the Emperor's force lightning. The Emperor is hurled to his death by Vader.

So now you started in the middle; came to the end; now it'll be the beginning to the middle with episodes 1-3. It's always a blast to watch people enjoy it the way we did back in 1977 and boy did we have a lot of questions! Can't wait to see your reaction for A Phantom Menace!

If you can get passed the character of Jar Jar, the child actor who plays Annakin, and even the actor who plays older Annakin(not all the time), episodes 1-3 are pretty good in showing the backstories and introducing you to new characters. Episodes 1-3 are super shiny and polished, sometimes that's ok, but I prefer 1977 to 1983. I prefer practical over computer if you can do it, the less cgi, for me, the better. What's noticeably better are the choreography scenes (light saber fights) with older Annakin, younger Obi Wan Kenobi, Qui Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul. Basically it tells you what you need to know to fill in the gaps and I'm ok with that.

Without revealing anything, this isn't the last time this series and its musical score will make you cry.

Luke couldn't kill the emperor because it's not the way of a Jedi, Jedi can't act out of emotion and can't attack unarmed. The Emperor was looking for a replacement for Darth Vader as his apprentice, and the Emperor and Vader are members of the Sith Order (opposition to the Jedi Order in some way), who have existed for many thousands of years according to the Rule of Two, which states that there can only be two Sith - the master and the apprentice, a master to embody the power of the dark side, and a apprentice to reach out to him, when a apprentice becomes stronger than a master, he challenges him, kills him and takes his place, taking a new apprentice, the Emperor was simultaneously looking for a replacement for Vader with someone younger and more powerful and he was afraid of him, because Vader could find himself a secret disciple and try to kill the Emperor by taking his place. By the way, in the very name of Darth Vader, Darth is the title of a member of the Order of the Sith, so for example the emperor has the name Darth Sidious, but you will learn more about it in the prequels You may also notice that the Jedi and the Sith have different force abilities, if in general terms, the Jedi use defensive abilities that can rarely cause direct damage, while the Sith use dark side abilities, such as force strangulation, force lightning. In theory, the Jedi can use them too, but this means direct use of the dark side, which will intoxicate the mind and after which it is difficult to stop, not to mention that it goes against the Jedi code

Imagine him being used for that purpose to communicate/negotiate with a more primitive civilization and how being allowed to pretend to be a god could be problematic ( Human history is full of examples of this ). That's why this isn't allowed by his programming. Also a reference to Star Trek's Prime Directive I believe or inspired by it. 26:00 - You're essentially right. Vader wanted to go with Luke but felt he couldn't. There are two aspects to this. On one hand, Vader fears the Emperor. He knows that if he disobeys or turns on the Emperor, he will die (which is exactly what happens in a roundabout way - he is accidentally struck by the Emperor's Force Lightning when he picks him up, which fries his armor's life-support systems). The other aspect is his own dependency to the Dark Side. The way I understand it, the Dark Side is like a drug. It gives you a sudden thrill, a boost of power of energy, but it also takes from you. The more you use it, the more you desire its power and the more it occupies your mind until there is nothing left and you're just a shadow of the person you used to be. This last bit is also how they plan to seduce Luke. Force him to use the Dark Side by surrendering to Anger and Hate, and Luke is *very* close to doing just that by killing Darth Vader. There is in fact a comic in which Luke *does* submit to the Emperor (but it's more of a non-canon kind of thing). Great reactioin :) The redemption of Anakin Skywalker is one of the greatest characters arcs in cinema and only those who truly understand Star Wars cry to the death of Darth Vader and the ending. Sub'ed and looking forward to your reactions to the prequels :) I also highly recommend watching the Star Wars shows after the prequels - Clone Wars, Rebels, Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor... Hi Sofie. I know it's a bit too soon and I do look forward to your reaction to the prequels and sequels, but just a heads up and to put things in perspective... After Episode III, there is a movie that connects it to Episode IV (A New Hope). It isn't part of the cannon series, it was the first of a series called "A Starwars Story" and it's called Rouge One. Again, the timeline is between episodes 3 & 4, so remember how episode 4 started because Rouge One literally finishes on those same series of events so you may want to watch that one after Episode 3. I've loved Star Wars since I was a teenager, and it is still my all time favorite movie series. A Star Wars Story also has a movie called "Solo" and it's about how Han met Chewie. Silly Return of the Jedi story (or reminiscing about being a kid in the 80s): "Han will have that shield down. We've got to give him more time!" is a standout line for me. Way back in the 80s, I used to play the Return of the Jedi video game at a local arcade. The game followed the plot of the movie and had numerous music and sound clips from the movie. One time, upon losing my last life, the game malfunctioned and played that line over and over very loudly over the next twenty minutes until an attendant mercifully pulled the plug.

Sophie, if you are at all a book reader, NOW is the point to jump into a specific trilogy that renewed worldwide interest in Star Wars. Imagine, it was ~10 years after RotJ had come out, and not much was happening in the Star Wars universe. It had kinda died in the public mind... a great trilogy of movies, with oddly-assigned episode numbers, but whatever. Then... from nowhere, came a Star Wars novel called _Heir to the Empire_ by Timothy Zahn. Somehow, Zahn managed to capture the feel of the movies and the personalities of the characters in his novels. While reading them, you can virtually _hear_ the various orchestral pieces of music in your head. And with that, public interest in Star Wars was renewed worldwide. These novels gave birth to an entire expanded universe of SW properties (many dozens of novels, video games, etc), many of which are superb in their own right. But when Disney purchased LucasFilm, they relabeled nearly every extended SW property as "Legends", to be considered non-canon going forward. Understandable, but unfortunate. Nevertheless, and without getting into any spoilers, they _have_ plucked elements from those "Legends" novels and reintroduced some of them into the "canon" Disney Star Wars universe. All this to say, _read the initial trilogy of novels by Timothy Zahn._ Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command. You won't regret it whatsoever, and certain elements of it DO get introduced, and you'll be super-hyped for it all the more. :)

Episode IV was directed by George Lucas, it's just the last 2 of the original trilogy that someone else had directed them. Namely Irving Kirschner directed Empire Strikes Back and Richard Marqaund directed Return Of The Jedi

I was 13 years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars and was 16 Years old in 1980 when I saw Episode v The Empire Strikes Back and I was 19 years old in 1983 when I saw episode VI Return of the Jedi in the Movie Theatre. Everyone in the Movie Theatre was shocked and gasped when it was revealed that Princess Leia was Luke's Twin Sister, Anakin Skywalker was the Jedi who returned, Luke hinted at it when he told the emperor that he was a Jedi like his father before him. Everyone in the Movie theatre cheered when Darth Vader turned on the emperor and picked him up and tossed him down the shaft. In the original version Darth Vader does not yell no before turning on the emperor. Darth Vader just kept looking back and forth between Luke and the Emperor. Then he just silently grabs the Emperor. This Star Wars Movie was the first time we saw the Green Light Saber. Also in the original the older actor who was Darth Vader was the Force ghost for Anakin Skywalker in the scene with Obi wan and Yoda. The Younger Anakin was added in later.

I saw this movie at five with my then ten year old brother. We both got so excited my mother had to hold us in our seats lol.

No one ever said Luke had to KILL Vader. He had to confront him. He had to face the part of himself he didn't want to. He had to make Anakin look at who he became as well. The Return of the Jedi is about Anakin's redemption as much as it is about the ascendancy of Luke's New Order.

The 2 main things about this film....the sheer scale and complexity of the set design/effects...and mcdiarmids performance. When i got my hands on a pirate in 85(aged 10)...i thought it was real , mind-blowing.(Ps the original,not that special edition debacle)

It took me a long time to realise that everyone gets different things from a movie. Just because someone enjoys the same movie as me, doesn't mean we enjoy the same elements for the same reasons. But, if someone is truly moved by Vader's death, and his final moments with Luke, well...they're my kin.

As to the last few shots of the film, showing young Anakin, restored to the good person he was, 'elevated' to the status of 'Force ghost' to exist with Obi-Wan and Yoda in the afterlife: Star Wars fans are divided about these particular images. In the original 1983 theatrical release of 'Return of the Jedi,' we saw a middle-aged figure (Anakin) appear as a ghost beside Obi-Wan and Yoda. He was actor Sebastian Shaw, the same actor that played Vader in the bleached-white "Humpty-Dumpty" makeup we saw, when Vader's mask was removed. Audiences did get the point, that Anakin's soul was restored to the "uninjured" equivalent of what his 45-year-old self would have been if he hadn't become Vader. But, it was also true that we, the audience, didn't know this stranger. You (Sofie) don't know the stranger you saw, either, the "young, hot Anakin." (Hayden Christensen, who plays Anakin in Episodes II and III, would have been two years old in 1983, when Return of the Jedi was released.) But, obviously, one gets to know him in the Prequels. I thus find myself in the camp of, "George Lucas made the right decision to revise the ending moments of 'Return of the Jedi' to the version you saw, with ••the Anakin WE KNOW•• assuming his rightful place besides Yoda and Obi-Wan. These altered images also imply a change in ••who Anakin has been restored TO••. As Vader, Anakin committed evil on a huge scale; yet The Force has seen fit to reward Anakin (chosen by The Force to fulfill an assigned Destiny of taking down the Sith, and guided from his conception for that hidden purpose) by "wiping the slate clean," and restoring Anakin's soul to his ~22 year-old self, his more authentic self before he truly became Vader. Others do not agree with this take. I once heard a contrary view, that Anakin/Vader essentially "scammed his way into Heaven." (Performed one very important, needed, righteous act, that doesn't atone for all the evil that came before.) (Others are welcome to their opinions, obviously.) My response is that we are looking at these events from a human (limited, finite) viewpoint. If one takes the view (as I do) that The Force was guiding EVERYTHING from Day One, then our grievance is with The Force, and not with Vader. We humans don't have the power to put The Force on trial and to punish it. ...The Force, in the Star Wars films, is presented as having SOME OF - BUT NOT ALL of the properties that G-d is described with in the Judeo-Christian tradition: The Force is intangible, is never seen, is felt only in the impact of what it makes happen, and is both omniscient and is "the ultimate Power" (in the Star Wars universe.) Unlike the Judeo-Christian view of G-d, The Force is never presented as being either A) the CREATOR and OWNER of the Universe, or B) the SOURCE of Good and Evil. And I think that's important: George Lucas is on record as saying, "I would hesitate to call The Force 'G-d.' " I think that's respectful on his part, and I believe him.

Star Wars is the Rise, Fall, and Redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

In the novelisation, Luke at least manages to Force-block some of the Emperor's lightning. Unlike here where he just takes it like it's his first day in prison. Lesson: do NOT dump you lightsaber when facing down a Sith Lord.

During _The Empire Strikes Back_ , we see Leia sensing Luke via the Force while he's hanging from the Cloud City weathervane, which sets up what we learn about her in _Return of the Jedi_ .

I was in the Navy when this came out. Duty prevented me from seeing it the night of its release so I bought the novel and read it in a single sitting. The scenes where Ben explains to Luke who the "other Skywalker" is, and later when Luke does the same with Leia are done so well. I wish the screenplay had spent more time in those scenes.

Just a reminder of what was cooking on all those bonfires in the Ewok's tree houses. Those Stormtrooper helmets didn't get carried up there just because.

As a SW fan from '77 and old guy, I genuinely don't know if I watch these more for the 'I am your father' scene or the 'But they kissed' revelation.

I am excited to follow your Star Wars journey into the Prequel Trilogy. I hope you will also consider reacting to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (6 episodes on Disney+) as well. It would fit very well after Episode 3 of the Prequels.

What I never expected when George added young Anakin into this version that Hayden Christianson the actor who plays him would basically look exactly the same in an age not far from where Darth Vader is at end of Return of the Jedi. So as much as it seemed odd when it was done in 2007 when they did the blu rays I feel it makes way more sense than having a seventy year old standing there as they did with Sebastian Shaw (who played older Anakin).

When Darth Vader said "It is too late for me." It was proof he was fighting against the dark side. When he saw his son in danger he became Anakin Skywalker once again.
