For those that hate the sound... I wonder if John was to record a track on a PRS, and then film the video making it look like it was played on a Strat... I wonder if people would love or hate the tone. My bet , people would think it sounded great, but as soon as they realized there were birds involved they would freak.

Been hoping you got a change to play one John.... I bought one over a month ago...PRS SE CE 24 Satin in vintage cherry red @ $ 499 US Absolutely Love it ! Great resonance..and is loud even with it not being plugged in. It has the same hardware and electronics as the SE CE 24 @ 699 USD and the Custom 24 @ $849 USD. Love the light satin finish, 10" radius, the satin neck and rosewood fingerboard. Mine is 7.2lbs and feels, looks and sounds great. The DGT SE is $899 USD ! Not really fair to compare guitars twice as expense.. Makes no sense to re fret a $499 guitar since re fretting is pretty much these days the same price as the guitar ! For many PRS finally made it affordable for those who otherwise would never have been able to own a PRS ! Thanks Paul Reed Smith !

One noticeable thing here is the coil split doesn’t seem to drop the volume… thats a great improvement. I have a CU24 SE and the volume drops significantly when I split - I have since had a 5 way super switch and new pots installed rather than push pull and this seems to have solved that vol drop. The SE range really is a force to be reckoned with now, also the option of non super flamy/fancy tops will actually appeal to some.

Excellent review of this PRS SE CE24 guitar. Great input. I'm glad you mentioned all the features, including the tap coil and satin finish, slim neck. And I wouldn't mind the low frets at all. My Fender MIM Strat has low frets and I much prefer them over my other Strat with higher frets so that when I slide an octave up on a guitar solo I don't feel like my fingers are going over "speed bumps" and preventing me from getting to the correct neck position in a timely manner on the fretboard. Review well done!

Kudos to them for being able to hit that price point here in 2024. To me, one small change would even make it a winner in the cosmetics department (only my taste, of course)… pickup covers! I think that would make a huge difference in all 3 colors that are on offer. I hear you on the Fender comparison. I bought a take-off (but brand-new) Player neck for my Tele recently… the frets were beautifully polished, but the fret ends were NASTY. PRS seems to do that part better than either Fender or Epiphone, and now at a significantly lower price point.

Quickly became my main guitar. Fast forward 3 years and a semihollow CE24 was next. After that my wife got a Zack Myers. Then this year around Christmas I picked up a SE silversky. Just a few weeks ago I picked up an excellent condition used Custom 24. Could never afford one new, but found it used for cheaper than a new CE24 and couldn't sat no. It's been amazing. Lots of great guitars out there, but PRS is what gers my attention most of the time.

The SE are good compared to the fender squire or epiphone but if you’ve never played a custom 24, you gotta try it. Idk ...I might have to disagree, at least partially. So hear me out. I own a 2017 Korean made SECU24. I happen to think I may of won the SE lottery with that one. It's been an amazing guitar and the whole gateway drug for me into the PRS guitar world. I also own a 2021 CE24 and as of a few days ago I got my first Core Custom 24. My CE with the satin neck, nitro finish, and being that kinda hybrid shallow violin carve does feel substantially different from my SE and with the bolt on neck and true 85/15 pickups it dies sound a bit different too. Both in tone and the initial attack of the string. It does obviously feel like a higher quality guitar than the SE line. Compared to a SECE24 there is a huge difference in feel.of the necks, but the SECE24 does capture the basic mojo. Anyway back to my original point. My 2014 Core 24 and my SECU 24 feel amazingly similar. Sure I like the tone of the Core better, and it is in basically in every way a better guitar. But honestly, if you were put in a dark room and just handed the guitars to play. I really think you'd have a hard time telling them apart based on solely how they play. All that said, if a person has the money to buy an American Custom 24, or other Core variant... by all mean do so because...WOW! I love my CE24-08 (ptc modded) or my new to me Custom 24. Best I can tell the future they will be life long in my collection. But if all you can afford is an SE line guitar, and you play a few and pick the best one... I think you shouldn't feel like you are majorly missing out. You still own a great guitar most likely.

The LPJ was always a mystery to me. Maybe because I don't know the history of the guitar. To me though you can tell it's a very stripped down LP variant. One pickup, a flat top, basic finish, and dots instead of blocks iirc. With the PRS guitars that are more budget minded I don't feel like it feels as dumbed down for price if that makes sense. You get a less contoured body, or really these days I should say a differently contoured body than the cores get, but you still get something that looks like more than just a chunk of guitar shaped wood. Regardless of if you spend $400 or you spend $4000.00 you still get (in general but with more QC misses on the SE line) an amazingly good playing neck with amazing fret work. Though iirc the SE fret wire is maybe a bit softer than the core line. You also get pickups, that while they don't sound the same as the core line, do a passable job of capturing the basic essence of the more pricey guitar. Thats not to insult the LPJ . I'm sure there are a lot of people that like the single pickup, simple bodied, workhorse guitar. I'm just not personally one of them. At least for the price Gibson wants. That's really what it comes down to. The LPJ may well be an amazing guitar, but in my head I say that thing LOOKS like it should cost $300, not $1500.

I have a question, but first a bit of context: I'm a beginner guitarist ... basically I can strum along to stuff on ChordU now, but I'm resigned to never playing lead - because I've had guitars for over 30 years! So I'm honest-to-goodness talentless. Oh well. Having said all that, I'm currently, absurdly, owning 4 guitars:- a slightly shonky Hohner Arbor strat I bought all that time ago, a Gretsch Club Jet, a Squier Mustang, and a Fender Telecaster MiM. I find the easiest one to play is the Hohner (long scale, thin-ish flat neck?), and the hardest are the Tele and the Gretsch (though I've enjoyed owning them, all). I'm now thinking of selling the Tele and getting one of these. I really like the looks, and everyone says PRS are beautifully made. But it's a bit of a trek to go to my nearest PRS dealership (and they don't have any in stock yet tbh) - is this going to be a good choice for me as a rhythm player? Or should I consider one of the top of the range Squier Strats instead? Or something entirely different? Any thoughts much appreciated :)

It's a lovely guitar, so very easy to play, so beautifully finished. Unfortunately the shop looked at my (almost mint) Tele and the Gretsch but only offered me 370 for the pair, so a bit of a stretch of extra cash to get to the 530 price tag on the PRS. I declined... For the moment. It did encourage me to pick up the Tele and play it more, which can only be a good thing. It's also a very well made thing with a lot of character to the tone.

I just got my first Core Custom 24. What an amazing guitar. In 2021 I got a new CE24. It (in my mind) was like a Core lite guitar. Shallow carved top, actual flame maple top,American 85/15 pickups, but with the last gen tuners and import trem, but also with about half the price to buy. It is an absolute great guitar. Love it. The interesting thing is ,when sitting on your lap, it's the oddball. Not in a bad way,but it's the most different. I am blown away by how similar my 2017 Korean made SE24 is to my 2017 American CU24. Aside from a slightly wider neck, when they are sitting in your lap they feel and play remarkably similar. Not a slight at all in the American guitar, just saying when everything comes together right ( maybe doesn't happen all the time) the SE line is an amazing value and a very legit offering.

I would have grabbed one of these but got disappointed when the specs showed the slimmer neck profile and 24 frets. I like 21 or 22 frets and neck profile like the DGT and silver sky has. Otherwise anyone likes the slimmer necks and 24 frets how could you not get one of these. Oh and mahogany body and rosewood fretboard for that kind of money. Paul reed has it going on for sure Cheers

Well, a "steal" not exactly considering it's worth more than my monthly rent, but yeah ... well-priced is the right word :).

I can buy any new PRS via Internet and not be concerned, as I know the quality is predictable. I would not by a Gibson or Fender because of that single issue - quality is not predictable. Even back in the 70s when I worked in a music store, the Fenders were always not predictable in the the quality dept. It is a sad thing indeed.

I bought 3 via internet, including 2 S2's, and they all had fret leveling issues, a disappointment since my original SAS is an amazing guitar. I also got 3 Gibson's online, 1 great, another with finishing issues but played great and another that had some fret leveling issues but not nearly as bad as the PRS's.

The Cort factory (where that's made) make better guitars than Fender at the moment. Fenders even at the 2.5k mark are terrible by comparison.
