This feels calm and nostalgic. I'm listening to this at the end of my day, just taking care of my dogs and settling down for a quick dinner, and then we're heading to bed, and this is a great soundtrack for this. I'm adding this to my Calm Down playlist. Is it okay if I give some thoughts and noticings? If YES, continue reading. If NO, stop here, and just pretend I didn't write the rest of this. But like... I wanted to get this down while I was thinking of it. Some thoughts: The synth lead sound kinda reminds me of Irish traditional music (where that same role would be played by a pennywhistle / tin whistle, or flute, or Uillean pipes (the Irish version of bagpipes, which have a sweeter sound and are maybe more complicated to play - beautiful tone, though). Kinda has a Irish-y folk rock vibe, but a synth player snuck onto the gig. It's nice! Blends very nicely. I might not realize it was an electronic instrument if I wasn't seeing it. I believe I hear some other pads or organ in the background too, at least in the beginning and middle parts, which I didn't notice you playing in the video, but it gives a nice texture. Subtle. Again, please ignore this if this isn't helpful, but the only thing that I felt was really missing was something at the end of the drum part to signal a transition and release the energy of that section. For example, maybe a somewhat gentle cymbal splash in the measure after the drums and bass cut out, maybe a few other notes in the bar before it (even just a da-da-Dshhhhhhh). Nothing too loud, just something simple to signal the transition. As it was, the drums cut out fairly suddenly, which meant some of that forward momentum just vanished, instead of feeling like it was intentionally released. The ending also went on for longer than I'm used to without drums and bass, or bringing them back in, which made that change in energy more noticeable - the drums and bass feel so good when they come in, but then it feels like they disappear fairly quickly, too. Offhand, I might try keeping a closed hi-hat going for a bit on beats 2 and 3, kind of like (oom) PA PA, (oom) PApihPA, and then bringing drums and bass back in at some point, before having them leave again (or go just to not-too-intense cymbals ringing out) in the last few measures. Or, skip all that, and just go wild with an egg shaker, and maybe bring the bass back in at some point. But, that said, I'm also all for doing things a nonstandard way and pushing the envelope. I like the simplicity of the arrangement - it feels complete, but not overcomplicated - but *if* you wanted to lean into the spaciness, maybe some textural synth somewhere around the upper midrange or above. When I say textural synth, I mean not melody, not accompaniment, closer to abstract sounds, likely without a really prominent pitch. Not too loud, could be ongoing or intermittent, and maybe with some extra reverb, to pull it back in the mix. Not my area of expertise, but when I think "space music" that's what comes to mind. Not my area of expertise, but a friend of mine likes to play around with that. Again, that's very much a "you could do this", not a "you should do this", as I do like it as it is. Hope this was helpful (if you did choose to read it), or that you aren't reading this now (if you chose not to read it, because c'mon, I did say not to read all of this). But yeah! Good stuff. Will try to check out your other stuff sometime soon!

kinda reminds me of louie zong. a little different though, louie zong's music is more electronic and peppy and this feels a little rougher and like.. worn? thats maybe the wrong term but like it feels like its been worn by use if that makes sense. like when you see old brass statues that have smooth spots from being touched

Reminds me of some of Sparklehorse's slower stuff. Not sure what genre they are either. They're at least in some way related to Camper Van Beethoven which some people call "cow punk."

the harmony and the pulse, not the drums as an instrument as pulse is conveyed and felt by various means and instruments. The sonic textures overall are of course a bit detuned compared to church, which adds originality to what you're doing, but that's where some of the resemblance is to church in the south@@WallyTyler
