This Generation Proved Oldheads Wrong

Музыка

The generational divide between old and new has always existed. They've bumped heads eternally, but this generation seems to have changed the narrative. #rap #hiphop

The old and news fans clash because they share the same commonality: both think that they know everything within the music sphere. The old dog can't be taught new tricks, and the new dog won't use old tricks.

I use "oldhead" like how mfs use "karen" it's more of a mindset and attitude more so than being tied to an actual era, like you can prefer older shit and not be an oldhead, it's when you hating badly on evolution and new sounds.

Something about this video doesn't sit right with me. You bring up a rapper like Ice T, who was about that life, to prove him wrong but a lot of his rap songs were about why you shouldn't live the life he did (being a pimp and selling drugs). He rapped about his frustration with the police as a black man. He eventually switched genres. I don't think you understand that a lot of OG rappers are in prison or dead (not just Tupac and Biggie). A rapper named Cool C (popular in the 80s) got the death penalty for armed robbery (later commuted to a life sentence ) Spoony G (80s rapper) who was at the height of his fame went to prison. Then you have Proof from D12 who was killed and Jam Master J who was killed. Snoop Dogg was famously on trial for murder. TI and Lil Wayne kept going to jail. That’s to name a few. I think the main issue is that a lot of new-school rappers seek out dangerous lifestyles. You said in the video some get IG and go to rival hoods and try to start shit. That wasn't happening when Ice T or other old-school rappers were popular. They used rap as a way to get away from that life not stay and get deeper into it ( for some rappers it was too late or somebody touched them years later). Another thing is that new-school rappers don't have a shelf life because they refuse to let go of the streets. If your music gets buzz in 2020 but by 2021 you've died, what are people supposed to do with that? They get that one album and maybe a picture of what you looked like. These guys aren't even old enough to drink or buy a car solely in their name. We won't ever see who they could be or how their music would have evolved. It’s sadder than proving old-school rappers wrong. It’s cool that we have footage of someone like Kendrick Lamar or Meek Mill rapping in high school or Drake awkwardly rapping in his bedroom as a teenager but what’s even cooler is that we know how they turned out. We see with Bobby Shmurda that being about that life can set your career so far back that you may not be able to recover. He should be up there with them. We have footage of Jay Z rapping as a teenager! That’s crazy. Imagine if he kept selling drugs and went to jail or died. 50 Cent exists! He chose rap to GET AWAY from selling drugs and keep from dying. Today it’s like some rappers glorify it.

In the 90's kids also did things to fit in but with less pressure from the outer world. We did it for the validation from the OG's. Yal r doing it for the validation from a broader audience of people that aren't about that life 🎯💯 Big difference🎯.

Haven’t watched the video but you’re 2000% wrong.. The best artist BY FARRRRRR is still considered Dot, Cole, Drake.. We can’t name a new artist from the last ten years that remained relevant beyond 5 years and those that have did by changing to the older gens style or trying to tag their brand to older guys.. That’s a fact..
