I think the metaphor of this game is the indifference of society. Everyone is the same and everyone is following eachother. Those that try to turn around or escape the crowd (the ones that try to be different) all eventually make their way to the main crowd. This main crowd could represent death or just being human.

"It's a metaphor about... no matter how hard you try... you will keep falling" I'd say it's interpretive, and I have two interpretations. 1: You can't save everyone, there will be those who you simply can't save and those who you can try to save, but you will have to definitively pick and choose who to save in the end. 2: No matter how hard you try, everyone's life is always falling down towards the end, and while you can delay the inevitable, you can never truly stop them from reaching the bottom.
