Non-inverter generators put out a clean sine wave. The frequency may vary slight by ± 0.1 Hz above or below 60/50 Hz depending on the Country. The voltage may vary depending on the load. An A/C generator uses permanent magnets for the Stator and the Rotor which has the windings that produce the voltage and current. Because of this it is a sine wave. And Inverter uses batteries that power an electronic DC to AC circuit and can't produce a clean sine wave, it is a "stepped" square wave approximation of a sine wave and depends on the inverter frequency. This also produces harmonic frequencies in the output at multiples of the output frequency of 60/50 Hz. Massive filtering is needed to clean it up. And you have to recharge the batteries which you don't do with a gas or diesel generator. Some appliances and power tools cannot operate on Inverter power. My Champion 5500 running Watts is 124 VAC no load and 120VAC full load and and under load is 59.9 to 60.1 Hz.
