This former sundown county expelled 1,100 black residents in a racial cleansing

Forsyth Georgia became a whites-only sundown county in 1912. It remained that way for over 70 years. Today, it's one of the wealthiest counties in America.

If they’re interested in real justice, give the descendants their family’s land back. Give, not sell, give, as it was taken wholly by illegal means.

Unknown Unknown I’m from Philly. You’ll never hear me say anything different. But, then again I wasn’t stolen a sold by my own people either. Matter of fact, any slaves alive today ? Any slave owners ? Weren’t Italians oppressed too ? Oh that’s right, we got over it. Weren’t Jews oppressed ? Seems like they got over it too ! Weren’t the Irish oppressed ? Even more recently weren’t Asians put into camps during world war 2 ? Seems like they got over it as well. The only people that haven’t are the people that have been here the longest ! Stfu, put your boots on, and go tf to work ! Stop bitching.

@@stevedowney4056 Actually, he's doing an okay job being a racist. Losing a lawsuit for discriminating against African Americans on housing applications at his properties, taking out a full page ad against the Central Park 5 and vilifying them publicly even after they were exonerated, using Pocahontas as a pejorative, calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals, calling African countries, "shithole countries" and in the next breath wondering why the US couldn't have more immigrants from Norway, propping up the birtherism lie to make President Obama seem "other", urging Dan Snyder not to change the racially offensive name of the Washington Football Team, urging his Postmaster general to remove mail boxes in urban neighborhoods to make mail in voting more difficult, telling members of the Squad to go back to their own countries, being quoted as saying he didn't want black employees in his casinos counting his money, having to be cajoled into denouncing David Duke's support of his presidential run, touting good people on both sides in Charlottesville, shrinking Bears Ears, regarding an inner city neighborhood in Chicago, "only the blacks could live this way", spreading misinformation about why football players were kneeling during the national anthem, having the least diverse cabinet in modern history I could go on but I think that so many Trump supporters are thinking of racism in antiquated terms. They think that racism has to be wearing a white hood and using the n-word. The fact is racism shows up in many different ways, sometimes overtly and sometimes subtle and nuanced. It should be called out wherever and however it shows up. To not do so is to provide tacit support for it in all of its forms. Further, Trump wasn't elected president of conservative white people or red states, he was elected president of the United States and has an obligation to protect the rights of all as laid out in the Constitution. He is morally bound to work to leave things better than he found them. In the case of race relations, that's just not happening.

I'm Black, Indigenous and in my 50s. I have a Black relative who was lynched in Louisiana during jim crow for trying to organize other Black folks to vote. He was hanged and his body was mutilated. My family never got justice. This program is the kind of true history that Trump doesn't want taught in schools. We ALL need to understand where we've come from and help work together to acknowledge the truth and HEAL if we ever hope to move forward. There are so many buried stories and hidden history. It's beyond vital to shine light on them. People deserve healing, validation and justice. And for all trolls who might be lurking in the comments, I refuse to hear your hate and ignorance. ( he’s only the most racist politician in modern day history ) You do know who Quid Pro Joes best friend was until his death right ? A man named Robert Bryd. A ranking member in the Klan and Quid Pro Joe did the eulogy at his funeral. You do know Quid Pro Joe is / was, all about segregation right ? Kamala touched on it during the dumbocrap debates. If ANYONE has a confederate flag hanging up it’s Quid Pro Joe. A simple google search will verify ALL that ! A flag gets you that pissed off but, voting for a REAL racist doesn’t ? What an ignorant FK ! The media lies. Not Jerry Marasco.

I live in Forsyth County. I have lived here for a good nine years. The place cannot at all look any less racist. The only vestige I have seen of its past is an abandoned house along 141 with an old Chevy and a Confederate flag. To think that 35 years ago I would have been shot dead if I was where I am now is terrifying. My neighbor has been here for 60 years, and he's witnessed pretty much everything the county has been through. The stories he tells ... the worst nightmares ever known to humanity.

When I lived in Alpharetta, Georgia (my family were Northerners) we heard about "batting." Batting is when a black or brown person walks on the side of the road and a white person in the back of a pickup truck uses a bat to hit them, usually in the head. Also, we saw and experienced a lot of other racism like one famous football player's dogs being killed because he was an "uppity n-word" according to them and a baseball player's biracial (his wife was white) daughters being told that they couldn't go in the community subdivision's pool because they alleged these two girl's bathing suits were inappropriate (they were 7 and 5, if you were looking at them that way then I think you have the problem!). I was often times told I couldn't attend certain events, like birthdays where the whole class was invited, because I am Black (my parents are both part black).

I was born and raised in GA and it shocks me to find out to this day there is this kind of racism. I live around modern racists..and a modern racist is one that makes a comment behind the other race's back now and then..but that's the extent of it. We all get along when we are face to face..but the comments will always be a thing it seems...which is a shame but it seems it will always be that way. This is making GA look like what I imagine Mississippi to be...and where I live it just isn't like that.

I won't ever try to deny racism still exists here..it does no good to ignore that it does. That's like ignorning that pit bulls were bred to fight and then being shocked if your pit bull doesn't get along with your other dog and then the pit bull goes back to the shelter because of the ignorance of the person that got it. You have to give people to whole truth to fix anything.

In 2018 in Fulton County Georgia the poll station closed at 12noon. Because the new voting machines didn't work. That's it, no one can vote. Gov. Kemp has nominated the Realtors of Georgia to monitor every single polling station in the State. Kemp canceled the election in Sept. for State Supreme Court. He appointed a GOP temp for the next 2 years. Kemp also threw out 24k mail-in votes in 2018 for no reason other as the Sec. of State in charge of his own gubernatorial election. Kemp is already set all wheels in motion to stop the vote, stop the count, and call it for Trump.

It was a short stay in USA 40 years ago, experience; racism against brown from darker, I had no English at the time.

We haven't talked about the racism including the systematic racism of white people towards black people enough. Everyday I learn something new about how sick minded white people were and still are. They are hiding history refusing to teach these things in school because they don't want white children to feel bad. See how evil white people are as a collective. You got some nerve talking about how a black person was hostile towards you as a white person. Black people in sundown towns got killed for being black. What you experienced wasn't racism that was prejudice. Black people can't carry out racism. White people have a system in place that that favors them. At your old age you should know better
