This Ogryn Gunlugger Kickback build is a lot of fun to play all the way through Auric Damnation. It has excellent damage through the way Kickback can scythe through entire groups of enemies and great staying power from the middle Keystone, Feel No Pain. I highly recommend giving this a try!

Would anyone be curious to see another Ogryn discussion like this? I have another in mind if enough people are interested. I can start work on it once the first session of my co-op campaign in WH3 goes up.

To my knowledge the Kickback special bash attack is considered a heavy attack. Just to keep in mind when wondering synergy with talents. It's not always needed to change to melee weapong to bash that small enemy that is not worth the bullet.

This is an excellent point that I should have mentioned! You’re completely right, both about the utility and about talent synergy. Thank you for bringing this up.

IIRC Soften Them Up only applies to your melee. I would say Pained Outburst is optional, but it does provide one key utility: it can knock a dog off you. I think Strongest! is mandatory for FNP now that you lose stacks on taking toughness damage. For that matter the earlier talent that reduces push cost could be worth considering. I think Toughest! is optional. It just boosts the toughness regen from being in Coherency a bit.

Thanks for this excellent comment! My computer has decided it would rather be an inert piece of expensive plastic or I would hop in to double check STU. As soon as I’m back in business I’ll do some work to confirm. Even if it is only melee, I think it’s still a strong pick anyway. Pained Outburst able to throw dogs off is a great callback to Bardin’s Ironbreaker and something I should have mentioned. Strongest! probably does move closer to mandatory territory now but I think there’s still room for player preference. Someone who gets hit more will find more use for it than someone who doesn’t. Same response for Toughest! At that stage in the build you’re sort of casting around for spots to dump the last couple points. I personally like every scrap of toughness regen I can get in the way I play but I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow either if someone wanted to swap it out either. One of the things I love about this Lugger variant is how much wiggle room there is to do it in a fairly unique feeling style without sacrificing the power of it. Thanks again for the solid comment! If the Machine God favors me, I’ll be back in game soon. I’ve got some things I’d like to say about Shield Ogryn in the next video. Hopefully you add your feedback to that one too!

@@athacusgaming Well if you're looking for where to spend a spare point, I'd take that +25 toughness node in the top left of the tree.

@@OniGanon You’re suggesting moving Toughest! to +25 toughness right? If so then I can see that being a fair choice.

Turning a corner to turn a group of gunners into a fine red mist with one shot never gets old. Each time is as fresh and wonderful as the last.

Looks fun. One question though about "Delight in Destruction" talent if taken.... You're not pairing this with a source of bleed stacks as far as I can see, so you are relying on team-mates bleeding things in order to benefit from it. Do you find this is common enough to warrant it, given other options you could go for? Or, did I miss a bleed source somewhere (I'm new, so not 100% sure if this may be the case).

  • @athacusgaming

    @athacusgaming

This is an excellent question and it demands clarification! You’re correct that there is no way to get access to bleed via talents here and you’d have to depend on your teammates. This is not uncommon but not so common that you’d want to build yourself on it, I feel. The main point of it would be to go for the extra rending which could you then pair with Hail of Fire to get even more rending. Again, there’s nothing wrong with this but since I normally put my points in Massacre it’s not what I do typically. This was my first attempt at a long form guide, and while I do feel it was mostly successful there are a lot of points that would stand more in-depth discussion. Thanks again for asking about this!

Thank you for the video. Anything you specifically look for in the curios?

  • @athacusgaming

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! To answer your question, there are sort of two Ogryn philosophies for curious generally, Toughness vs Health. For Bullgryn, Health wins in my opinion, but for Kickback, Toughness has more value. You shouldn't be in melee as much and when you are you want to do your damage and get back out so you can start blasting again. Toughness is going to have much more value there and in ranged shoot-outs. For the perks, I recommend a spread of damage resist vs gunners, snipers and bombers with +%Toughness mixed in to taste. That's a generalization though and what I would do if I were you, would be to look at which damage source is most commonly putting you into dangerous positions and lean your perks that way. Curios are a great way to tailor your defences to what you need. I hope that answer was helpful. Ave Imperator!

when I started playing this game, I was under the impression that starting gear was bad, but I have been playing this build for a bit. any suggestions on the curios?

  • @athacusgaming

I’ll give you some general advice that will get you started. For Kickback, gear with an eye toward toughness since you’re mostly in ranged and it has more value for the abuse you’re taking regularly. After that, look to damage reduction versus gunners, snipers and bombers with a sprinkle of +% toughness. With that said though, play some games, see which enemy type is giving you the worst time and tailor accordingly. I found curios to be a real “to one’s preference” generally. Good luck in Tertium. Great video, man! I've recently been playing more Ogryn than any other class and I absolutely love it. Looking for new builds to try and this one is similar enough to my current shield bashing build.

Thank you for your comment! I'm sure that you're going to love this build. Deleting dangerous packs of gunners and clearing hordes is deeply rewarding work. If you enjoy shield bashing as well, then please do keep your eyes open because I've got a build on just that topic coming out in the next couple of days, Emperor willing. Ave Imperator!

Now I am going to spend the next few hours wondering if, after listening to Spike Spiegel as a young man and deciding he was the coolest character I had ever heard, I unconsciously altered my speaking voice to follow him and carried on for the rest of my life.
