I still don't quite understand buying $2000 glass and a $300 filter to make it look like a $20 kit lens.
@BenGleasonMedia
Жыл бұрын
This comment comes up a lot, and ultimately, I have 2 reasons. 1 is because of the option to remove the filter if I don’t want that soft effect. When I’m going to a shoot I will typically have a look in mind, and for some shoots it may require the sharpness of a $2000 lens and for others I may want that same focal length but a softer look. 2, the filter is $125 USD, which is still a little pricey and I get that. But, after shooting video for 10 years, you start to experiment with your footage. Getting different effects to change things up or try something new keeps things fresh. While also shooting the sharp “boring” stuff to keep money in the bank. Ultimately you don’t have to use filters at all, and for photography it can be way easier to just do the effect in post. For video that may be a different story, which is what I mostly do, and why I tend to have a few of these filters in my bag to mix things up if I need to.

@@BenGleasonMediaI love the subtle beauty the Schneider filter gives, so I'm looking forward to seeing your comparison!
Reminds me of the old days using my Hasselblads with softtar filters ! 120mm Zeiss t star for awesome dreamy effects
It looks like how my vision looks 24/7
Makes it feel like film
Cool! Thank you 🌹
Mine looks like that everytime I go out 😂
When he mentioned "lucid dream," I thought he was referring to the car. 😂😂
The last picture look like romantic film fr
And that’s why Leon Edwards has the most aesthetic physique in the world
Makes me feel like I need to put my glasses on
Can also use Vaseline as cheap replacement if I'm not mistaken.

Not quite the same effect, although it definitely was/is used to soften ultra-sharp lenses.
Well adding the film type texture to it can also be achieved through usage of the ISO balancing and WB, no? Unless it creates a more 3d feel rather than that of pressing the image between two sheets of sand paper.
why does the video look like a dream 😭😭
looks just like my glasses when I wake up
But don't you NOT see any of that texture at wider apertures?
Aaj the filter dropped so did my heart
the lens itself looks like my visual snow (static vision). guess i see in film halation 🤷🏼
Lucid dreams? Yeah I love that song.
this lens remind me of using hairspray with my glasses on. After the spray it literally just stuck on my lens with similar particles and it cost almost nothing lol
Looks like every A24 movie
That's a much more realistic film grain and halo effect than digital noise ever accomplishes well. I like it.

film grain??
Put this on the end of a 1.5x anamorphic while shooting open gate 4:3 at 4k30 with a 1/50th shutter speed. Peak aesthetics.
Do you increase sharpness while using this filter?
@BenGleasonMedia
Жыл бұрын
I don’t! I still think it maintains sharpness even though it’s job is to soften the image! 👍
My friend tried photography, broke a 200$ lense, quit photography All in the span of a day

Great story, I lolled hard.
I love the idea of using a high grade pro lens and then slap a Vaseline filter in front of it 😁 A friend of mine does this all the time 😋
Are soham bhau mast video hota first class re mhanje true yaar well said ❤❤
Such a great filter! ....🏃➡️adds to cart!
Has a Wes Anderson feel to it
You can get something similar by putting water on a normal lense and waiting for the mineral residue to deposit.
I tried the nostalgia filter on a already yellowed lens on 120 film and I’m not sure it was a good call, lol perhaps a filter for digital
I prefer the ones from moment they’re better quality
What adapter/metabones do you use for your 4k?
@BenGleasonMedia
Жыл бұрын
It's the Metabones X0.71 adapter!
I fr thought that filter was dirty 😂😂
So it’s like when an artist adds “noise” on a digital painting or illustration?
FIREEEEE
When you said lucid dream filter i thought it was a dreamcatcher attachment that helps you lucid dream 😅
I think it emulates blooming effects, not the halation.
Now i understand why i can't replicate a movie scene with my phone

Hi, what is your camera set on sunset? White balance, aperture, shutter speed and iso?

That filter would drive me up the wall, making me think its got 13yrs worth of debris on it. 😂😂😂
oh cool a simulator of what it feels like living with visual snow lol
This is interesting, I use an older panasonic lumix camera that just has the same effect (due to the age). I think it is because the photos are shot at 72dpi.
You can do it DIY with a cheap filter and hairspray
😂 My college days.. I used transparent plastic been sprayed, rubber bracelet to stick it 😅
"This filter removes the imperfections..." Me after taking a selfie: ✌️
In the 90s we used to set a nylon panties piece stretched in between the lens and the camera body. Same result but we had to buy a bunch of panties for the whole season of video recording. Looks like film
every Wes Anderson movie be like
Bro those looks like shots from Oppenheimer
Is this better than just throwing a filter on in the edit stage?
It seems like it would be better to do that when processing the image, that way, you still have the original image and you can the effect more or less depending on how you want it to look.

You've never shot video then if you think this isn't easier and more effective for some budgets and time
I bet this is what they use when filming folk horror
Maybe a before and after next to each other
Looks like my XS max front cam who tends to have this “lucid dream filter” after 4 years of service.
Thought I was getting COD load out in the beginning when he saying what type of camera it was
Pretty dang cool, also well done with the video, really good editing and shots!
wes anderson type beat
Amazing
it looks like my glasses after frying chicken
For solar filters in genral are there universal for all cameras or doni need to get a specific one for each lens.
I've fallen in love with the Tiffen Black Mist filter set - they use a different method than the sparkle coating to promote halation, which makes it a lot more subtle even at high density. They also come in different strengths, which lets you keep the look and contrast effect even when you need to tone down the strength of the halation when you have something like a neon light in frame.

Er, keep the halation when you need to tone down the contrast. Derp.
How much would that camera and stand cost? I don’t know much about photography but I find it interesting!
