This is a film from the collection that I put together to make my television series Making Sense of the Sixties. I never knew a mother like this when I was growing up and I doubt women like this ever existed. What a joke. But I love seeing how advertising agencies thought they could reach women back then. My grandma didn't shop for fun but she did have a similar attitude towards housework. Nowadays you will not hear women complain about not having time due to having an outdated kitchen, in fact many younger people are getting back into canning and have complex meal plans which are a lot of work. Not only that but many of us also have to work and pretend like housework happens by magic. It's kind of sad that women nowadays are expected to have everything perfect looking at home but to talk about it as work is just about taboo.

Agree 100%. Back in the 50s women practically owned their neighborhood and were really smart. They knew how to keep a husband and a family together. They administered their husband's pay check and the house finances. They were subtle, elegant, clean, modest, restrained, feminine, moderated and exquisite. Have you taken a look at what people call "women" today? Loud, masculine, clown-like, unfaithful, woke, entitled and vulgar. They have copied only the vices of men...

You need to get them done at a professional hairdresser and get a longlasting type of set style that lasts up to a week and which you protect with a headscarf and other careful maintenance.
You two gals should dish it out to George and he would get you a kitchen, bathroom, and a vacuum cleaner brought to you by GE Westinghouse. Always remember a pack of Lucky Strikes for George as 3 out of 4 doctors recommend Lucky Strike cigarettes.
I got flashbacks to my grandmother who was born in 1936 when she said when there's a sail going on. Feminists: Hm, it's true, but they shouldn't say it.
Prozac...
I wish women still wore classy hats . Beats the heck out of green and purple hair .

Dang bro. Jesus loves you btw
Funny how they bring shopping up , when in all reality, women back then depended on their husbands for money, even if she was single and worked, a women needed a man ( dad, brother, uncle , cousin, ) to open up a bank account , since, women weren’t even allowed that into the mid seventies
I have worked and have been a homemaker. I would much rather be a homemaker. I hate having to work and maybe it is because I have a job not a career but to be honest I loved being home, taking my kids to school being able to go on field trips and come and go on my schedule, not some companies. I take from this and some of your comments before that you have a negative feeling regarding the past and women's roles. I just know this, that every woman I come across in my life has the same goal and that is to be a homemaker and not work.

+scarletfluerr Too bad. You do realize that the push for women in the workforce was so that government could tax what women were doing all day. See, it made Nixon furious that women were working all day yet the parasites in government couldn't take their 30% cut. Consequently, a great effort was put forward to make women believe that they were not self actualized unless in the workforce. I'm sad to hear that you fell for it. Of course, the worthless eaters in government are glad you are doing your bit.

No woman nowadays or I think ever acted like this. In my experience women from that time wear like that but wore little to no make up, hung out having tea less, and worked more.
