This episode feels like the calm before a storm ⛈️ Black Sails 3x3 Reaction/Commentary

I genuinely enjoyed the inside look into flints mind. This also feels like the start of something between flint and silver. Crazy how this feels like the calm before a storm…

34:40 LOL. I didn't realise you found Hornigold so despicable as to gag at the sight of him.

the behind the scenes dedication to this ep from the walrus crew performers was wild - they properly went method on getting that starved look

Remarkable. You, but also your reaction & theories. Not sure how many more episodes you’ve already watched, but this is getting exciting. Love those beautiful puppies!

Your analyses are always spectacular, but you showed more empathy in this episode than I've ever seen before. Well done, Jan, well done.

"You will account for me". I love that scene so much. I also love the symbolism of these early episodes. The hurricane is Flint's rage, the doldrums his depression, and when there is finally a breakthrough with Silver, the wind returns. Sadly what Flint and Teach warned about came true this episode. The majority of the men in Nassau were just playing at piracy because men like Flint and Vane made it easy for them to ride their coat tails. The second they're offered an easy out, they take it.

Great reaction. My favorite part is watching Flint breaking down. Writers took so much care reminding us he’s human. And that James McGraw is in there somewhere.

This is one of the episodes that shows why Flint is such an effective Captain. I think it's like you said, Flint does things for the greater good - and he is able to make these choices because he is no longer attached to individual people. Billy and Silver care so much for the crew, and that keeps them from doing the same (This is also why it's so important for Flint to have a partner who can remind him of his humanity). Every choice Flint makes in this episode, as ruthless as they are, eventually ensure their survival. I definitely understand your dislike of Hornigold - I feel just as icky about him. But at the same time, I can see why he switched sides. His pirate code was different from people like Vane, Flint or Teach. He never shook off the influence of Britain (the real Hornigold for example took care not to attack British ships). He was disappointed about what piracy had become, so when he was offered a way out that wouldn't end with him being hanged like a common thief, he took it. And many of the man in Nassau feel the same. Most of them aren't "proper pirates", as Vane would say. Piracy was their last resort. They do it to survive, and if they are offered a way to survive without risking their lives for it every day, they are willing to leave piracy behind. It's just a means to an end for them. It's not who they are (which is exactly what James and Thomas were counting on years before) I think the same also goes for Eleanor - she's not a proper pirate, she just wants to live a life with some agency, and it doesn't really matter who offers her that, be it the pirates or the British. Max and Anne break my heart in this episode, in the best possible way. They love each other enough to realise that they need to let each other go. Anne saying "I trust you", when we know what has happened to her in the past is so beautiful.

We're barely past half way of Black Sails. Nowhere near almost done with it. The best is yet to come.

Though not very historically accurate, Black Sails is still a masterpiece of pirate fiction.

6:58 She mentions Flint cutting the sail, which occurred in the previous episode, so I'm going to assume that video is simply blocked
