Forged rods , dual valve springs. Put a dual intake cams and forged m52b28 crank in it with some lower pistons . m42b18 pistons work. and you got a good 8k rmp turbo engine. tested and works fine .

As a current S55 owner and previously N55 and N54, I agree with this ranking 👍

b58 is S tier based on reliability alone

That's an M50tu engine at 7:25. M50s also came with single vanos as part of the technical update.

I'm aware. That photograph is shows an m52 and not an m50tu though. It does however have an m50 or m50tu manifold on it, well spotted.

S58 amd B58 are the new modern inline-6 engines to go for.

Don’t sleep on the n55 as a daily, the n54 is deffo the more powerful engine, even the block and head on the n54 is far better

N54 motor is solid...its all the cheap plastic and weak rubber around it that's unreliable. And the fact people hear what they can make and throw every bolt-on part onto them then blow the motor cause they didn't do any maintenance, plays a part in the "unreliable" hype. Add the fact they'll spend thousands on performance parts but some how cant afford maintenance and labor is crazy. All you have to do is you're homework on failure parts..plenty of videos showing em, buy and replace them, get your oil changed regularly, upgrade the cooling system and hoses, upgrade all the plastic parts, save for maintenance, and use your blinker the car will last

So the M52TU, the same engine these guys creamed their panties over in their 24hr engine swap video, is no better than a C? Which isnt a 3rd but 4th on their list? If their past videos suggest anything, if the M52TU is a panty dropper for them as a C tier they must absolutely be bumping their little peckers up against A and S tier engines. They even said the M52TU was superior to the M54. Toyota level reliability they said. Click bait lies I say.

Bit of a strange way to put it. The m52tu wasn’t even included in this tierlist though. In fact there was no TU variants of any motor because there would have been too many. We even said that there was a motor doing the m54 better implying the m52tu. I really don’t know why anyone wouldn’t go for an s54 swap over an m52tu? Objectively better motors they just got for like 8 times the price. Maybe you would have enjoyed the video more if you weren’t so busy thinking about our peckers. Have a great day!

Barra can certainly hold power and is reliable ! But think about this: power isn’t always the most important part of an engine: weight (among other things like torque curves etc) play a big role in how an engine performs behind the wheel. The very heavy euro S50 in the e36 m3 weighs 150 kilograms. A 2j in the same scenario is 200kg. A Barra? 240kg. That’s a lot of weight toward the front of the car and why you wouldn’t see a track m3 with a Barra or even a 2j. Ofc course there’s a good 20kg dedicated to just the turbo and manifolds alone, but even subtracting that the difference is considerable.
