This Earthship is the Ultimate Self-Sufficient Urban Home!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When it comes to radically revolutionary architecture, it’s hard to look past the Earthship. Constructed from a mixture of old car tires and rammed earth, these homes are designed to be completely self-sufficient. They are a fantastic example of regenerative home design in practice.
Beyond the home's immensely clever function, Amy’s Earthship is amazingly beautiful. From the stunning greenhouse garden, to the sunflower bottle wall or the extraordinary interior earthen renders, this home is a joy to behold.
I’m in love with all forms of architecture that push the boundaries, challenge convention and strive to make a positive impact on people's lives and the planet. When it comes to architecture that actually achieves this, the Earthship is exemplary.
We hope you enjoy the tour of this amazing home! You can find out more about Amy's Earthship on facebook here: / 100066417016958 , and on Instagram: / earthship_cats

We absolutely loved visiting Amy's Earthship home! Her passion for Earthship design radiates from her and she is an absolute wealth of knowledge. Earthships have been a fascination of mine ever since watching the film Garbage Warrior and since then I have always ventured to incorporate as many of these design principles into my own projects as possible. This is a shining example of a home which is completely self-sufficient, radically sustainable and which has a positive impact on the world around it. We hope you enjoy the tour!

Bryce and Rasa, once again, thank you for finding Amy and bringing her fascinating story to us. She and her build radiate warmth. I love the colors she chose for her solid walls and how they accent those amazing bottle walls. I adore the earthsip movement. It's been at least 10 yr, quite possibly more since I've known about them and have coveted one ever since. Using TRASH to make a home, and other things has been my passion for a long time. It's really hard to get people to understand and buy into the concept. To them, trash is to be discarded. Amy is so fortunate to have a community of such awesome friends who understood and were totally on board to help her action her lovely dream. That bench top is sooo stunning. I love❤ the color and character it lends to the home as well as the coffee table her friend gifted her with for the lounge. Bravo to her and all her friends. Bryce and Rasa I think it would be lovely to include whatever adventures Amy has or had with her cute little home on wheels/travel trailer that I saw. TFS ❤❤

When someone says “you will live alone with cats” as a fear mongering, they should be made to sit and watch this video 10x as rehab. Anyway, this video is inspiring in more ways than one. Everyone should have access to a life where they can be close to nature and their inner world, experience self love and gratitude, and all around live a life cradled in the beauty and mystery of earth. This is what we are here for, this is home. In fact, this is not just a home, this is a vision for what a fulfilling human life looks like. She has a beautiful sustainable home, an amazing community of support and friends and people who inspire each other, wonderful furry companions who love her company, a purpose in life and a sense of making a difference by the way she embodies that purpose. Just some quick notes from the designer of this Earthship home (not a tiny house) in response to comments on KZread. 1. The tyres you can see out front are intended to be hidden by a timber deck which has not been constructed yet. 2. A garden around the home will be planted soon. This is best done after all the construction work has been completed. 3. There is wire mesh over the end of the cooling tubes (aka earth tubes) to stop insects, rodents, and reptiles getting in (and cats getting out!) 4. Earthship homes have great indoor air quality due to the constant (24/7) ventilation coming through the cooling tubes. In the winter the cooling tubes function as warming tubes! Consequently, any off gassing from MDF, plywood, carpet, furniture, tile glue, humans and maybe just maybe a tiny amount from the tyres is safely blown out of the building by the constant cross-ventilation. Furthermore, tyres tend to off-gas (release VOCs into the air) when they are new. After they have been on the road for thousands of hours, in the sun, rain and wind, they do not off-gas significant quantities of VOCs. If you are in doubt use your nose as a VOC detector. Whats more, in a finished Earthship home, the tyres are covered with plaster/render and protected from water with water proofing and drainage products - the tyres will NOT come into contact with water, sun, air or fire. They are protected from the elements. And hence there is nothing to be concerned about with regard to building with tyres. What IS concerning is the microplastic rubber particles in your lungs, caused by tyres wearing down on the roads. Tyre dust is in the air we breathe. 5. It is not possible to explain everything in a video - great job Amy, Bryce and Rasa!

I was surprised the cost was so high, until I realized she had the solar system, septic system, rainwater storage, greenhouse and COVID to factor in. The bathroom rivals any I have seen, and coveted. That tub! TFS

I'm speechless!! This huge-tiny earthship is one of the most beautiful houses seen so far. The passion and commitment that went into the construction of this masterpiece is commendable! A spectacular project. Thanks Bryce and Rasa. I hope that this year for Christmas greetings many inhabitants of the Tiny Houses will record a greeting video, so I can see everyone together with pleasure. A big hug from Livorno, Tuscany, Italy and I hope that soon I will be able to realize my dream of having a Tiny House and communicate it to you!! Happy Holidays to you and your families.

I love the idea of earthships and recycling things I do have some questions though. How does the buried tires affect the surrounding soil? Since everything off gases, is anything done to prevent this effect? I quite feeding my chickens from recycled tire bowls since it can cause cancer. I’d love it you could address this concern.

Love the amount of big drawers in the kitchen. The very best way of storing things. Pity an earthship is so labour intensive, as it seems to be the best type of housebuild, and the healthiest to live in.

Beautiful home!! The way she talks and has so much passion is so special. I loved hearing how he views the home and how when looking she can think about the people that helped her make possible certain parts. The community is amazing and from it came an amazing home. I loved the shots at the end of the warm light inside along with the warmth of the color of the walls. So cozy looking and inviting! I also loved the bits with her talking about her cats!! They looked so peaceful and content. Amazing video guys. Vidoeography and editing amazing!

I love earthships so much. Mike Reynolds is truly a visionary. I know in Australia there have been a lot of issues around council approvals and other regulations for earthships so it is wonderful to see it can be done. I would love to see more of these.

Got the gift of the gab this young lady, I actually had to go back at the start to see what question Bryce had asked LOL...clever lady too instead of hunting for different coloured bottles who would have thought to put coloured resin in the bottom of clear ones??? Nice trick she should patent that idea!! Make a fortune if it was added to every Earth ship book, or build your own home books etc... I love that friends, family and strangers who become friends all share their love in the build.. and I love the sunroom/entry area, bet the cats spend their days soaking up the sun there on those window ledges.. any other lounge but that red velvet just wouldn't have looked the same against that yellow sunshine wall...and what amazing friends to 'gift you trees' cant beat that!!! You dont realise how big that house is until you see Amy walk towards her front door. You can feel the love in tat house, that home, and I love that yellow glow when the lights are on at night. Well done Amy you are amazing and your home is awesome... one of the best Bryce, nice photography too Rasa.. cheers from Western Australia

So much to love about this video Bryce. Loved the home and loved her. Such great energy and positivism. It was interesting to hear about her journey of how she came to build an earthship home. All because she was volunteering in Nicaragua where she wound up helping to build a school there using this process. And who knew there was a class/seminar one could take to learn more about it as she did when she traveled to Taos, NM and then the serendipity of having an earthship guru right in her area where she was able to work on another monthlong project. Pretty amazing journey.

This looks like an improved design of the Earthship. One thing I noticed is the windows at the front are vertical instead of at an angle seen in some of the New Mexico Earthships and I suspect that lean puts less strain on the window frame. Keeping the window vertical is a better-engineered design. I personally have never been a fan of the bottles in the wall, but it seems to be a requirement to join the Earthship club. What I would like to do someday is combine some Earthship passive heating/cooling design elements with a "barndominium" build style. Would do a glass-covered porch area facing the sun to act as a buffer to the outside, and put a berm on the back side of the house with geothermal, or cooling tubes to help cool/warm the large garage side of the home. It will be too big to be on Living Big In A Tiny House, but seeing so many out-side-of-the-box thinkers gives many inspiring ideas.
