Growing up in this area and knowing that there are a huge amount of building codes and strict restrictions on what you can and can't do, How did you get through all the red tape? This place is awesome and this video made me miss my stomping grounds.

Simple personified ! Beautiful, did you need permits ? Codes? The cabin and surrounding area looks like a sanctuary. Thanks 😊

In California yes, you need permission for everything if you want to be legal. It’s easy to call the city municipality and request. Just research your app verbiage

Everything seen here was turned to ash in the fires that came through this area. They are rebuilding slowly.

Nice. We built my brother's 2400 square foot log cabin for $28,000. It has different wood species in the rooms, and sassafras kitchen cabinets. We could have done it for less, but hired a block layer and a roofer.

Hey can you guys please please help me I’m trying to build a little place to live away from the rat race but I don’t know where to start as far as getting cheap material to build with

@@damionlucas9507 Nothing is cheap anymore. A $3 2×4 is $8 now. Do you have access to a local saw? Pine should be about 75 cents a board foot. Apply for an agricultural building permit. It's free. Call your shed a shed. You can pick up cinderblocks from contractors who have a few leftovers. You might have to scavenge around for enough materials to build your shelter. I can go out on the mountain farms and collect rocks for the foundation and chimneys for a cabin. I skid logs with a winch on my truck. I chop them out with an axe, then finish them with a broadaxe. I split white oak shingles with a froe. I'm getting ready to build an 800 square foot log cabin for less than 2 Grand, because I'm buying mortar and flue liner for the chimneys. Everything else I can supply.

I'm from Florida. Area looks lovely and the cabin is wonderful however the only thing we hear about back East is the ubiquity of fire out there. Does that not concern you?

Or just steadily collect any sort of timber, scrap metal, etc that you may find along the way in your day to day life and store them away. You can build an infinite number of things with scrap materials, don't just assume that you have to buy new. It's also better for the environment. Very nice BUT as someone that's been living in California for the last 36 years I'd NEVER build anything in or near the forest with the current global warming situation and the intense fire season which gets bigger with each passin year.
