It seems to me like he's scared because he would get flamed for making a mistake, my advice is: turn off chat and all communications. Use the comms wheel, start making mistakes and be conscious of them, learn from them, that's how you build confidence.

I may do that as well because I have 1000+ hours on quick play but only 37 hours on comp and it’s for my anxiety of getting flamed so thanks for the advice

I’ve played ranked before a bit, but I only really enjoy it now if it’s a 5 stack- even if we gotta wide queue for it. Just much more relaxing that way for me

I understand where that attitude is coming from, but I would suggest to use it to BUILD confidence and eventually turn on the chat again. Comms is an important part of multiplayer games. People get salty, but if you stay chill, the others are more likely to do the same. Though I was forged in flames of the cesspit that is LoL, so I am used to stuff.

I had the same anxiety for comp for so long! I still default to qp most of the time, but I'm slowly getting myself into ranked more often. Good on this player for putting their gameplay out there! I can definitely see them climbing eventually, if they find their confidence. Great job!

I do that in rl but it's because, when I play in my rank, my tm8s underperform or make constant mistakes. But when I play above my rank, I'm not good enough to carry, so I play supportively. It's so stupid.

So you can’t blame the person on your team who goes 6 and 22? The person who just flanks and dies over and over and over? The person who just feeds after dying and not waiting for the team and just goes in 1v5? I have bought dozens and dozens of accounts to level them up to gm to sell. Most of the time in medal rank’s it’s 1-2 people on the team that have zero clue what they are doing. Are standing out in the middle of the map with bad positioning. Don’t know when to peel and more. But your favorite KZread shill will tell you different bc they can’t talk bad about the game.

I treat rank just as quickplay with better matchmaking and people who actually try to win 😂

Having played both competitive and unranked, I was actually amazed at how poorly some players played in competitive…and how well some played in unranked… When I first went onto competitive, I genuinely thought I would get “eaten alive”: constantly getting killed, getting nasty comments from team mates etc etc… It’s not really what I’ve found, by and large…

I'm scared to play ranked as well, I just play enough to get placed and then I dont touch ranked anymore, especially when I play dps 😅

Same here! The thing with me is, in the 3 years I've been playing Overwatch, I've become a person that will 100% blame themselves if the team is losing or if things suck, even though I'm not bad by any means. I have my strengths and my weaknesses but I still could use a lot of improvement. I will think I'm the problem, maybe it's because I assume others think the same or because I really don't have much confidence in myself but I'm starting to play comp a lot more and be sure of myself, try my best, improve when I can and more than anything, have fun doing it!

to add to the comment of things to eat or minimize venture ult, if u count it any kind of shield works rlly well which is y i like sigma as a venture counter

Tbh I also suffer from ranked anxiety even tho I know it means nothing at the end of the day, internally there is something holding me back from going from masters 4 to diamond 1 because I went on a 17 game losing streak or whatever. Rn I'm just grinding for my 2nd jade gun (I got mercy's, probably gonna get kiri or ana next)

I get the rank anxiety. It's honestly easier to just mute vc and ignore text chat. I tend to use qp as a warm up/testing new strats and heros.

I tend to play too aggressive, so I found that Venture fits my style very well. I can bounce around all up in their team and get right back out when it starts to get dicey. I have to learn to not be TOO aggressive though. Had someone in rank tell me "don't ever play Venture again". WTF...at least I was TRYING to do something and break up their backline instead of flitting around the objective just poking. So I had a few deaths. Meh. Game before that, I had like 25+ elims and 6 deaths. Whatever. Move on.

It would be easier to list the DPS characters he DIDN’T play.

I main support. And on the topic of sym turrets I always feel like thats my job to clean those up. I dont think the dps and tanks should have to stop making plays to deal with those unless Im out of the picture. Ive often wondered though if thats just my thinking or if others feel the same?
