It's a river it does always eventually reach the ocean they just made another cut of into the ocean so it won't be freshwater. (In the beginning it even said it was a river)

For those who don't know, this is done to prevent the river from overflowing into cities/ towns in Hawaii during rainy season.

@@ScorchedAce94 This is the Waimea River on Oahu in Hawaii. The river terminates in the ocean, but the sand regularly builds up on the beach. Each winter it gets particularly rainy, which increases the water level in the river. Due to the sand buildup though, it creates a natural dam, that eventually when the river reaches a high enough point, it will carve it's way through the sand and create these big waves naturally. The problem is, by the time that happens, the river has essentially flooded the local area. All they're doing is speeding up an otherwise natural process before it causes a flood.

It’s a body of water but it’s very small and if you don’t open the river, it will there or flood peoples homes so the community gets together and digs the river. It’s a win-win for the community and people that want to film Surfing on the stationary waves

Just a professional surfer that makes videos and travels the world nothing too special but definitely my goal is not to destroy the beach. It honestly made sense for what happens in a short amount of time but the beach replenishes itself in a matter of days then it resets we live in Hawaii Where the waves are huge during the winter months and the rains are heavy, the rain water Hass to go somewhere and unfortunately it goes down. It can’t go back up into the valley. If we don’t take the river, it will flood homes in the valley and the community will be in a gnarly situation so as a community we take the river it’s a win-win for us and the community. This has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years anyways happy holidays.
