The first 9 min of this episode is classic example of what I deal with 90% of the time when people visit the shop wanting to sell their cards. Thumbs UP from The Card Shop in Bastrop, Louisiana

I can imagine. I see a ton of this stuff on FB market place and they normally picked out. I'll buy em when it's dirt cheap so I have something to do late nights.

Yep every time when I set up at shows and at the shop I’ve been a part of before tons of junk collections and honestly people who have stolen stuff bringing garbage, I always feel bad for the people like Harold who just innocently don’t know how bad it actually is though
You treated Harold with respect! Kudos to you. God bless you all.
The irony of meeting a man at the start of the video born in 1933 and ending the video with the man with the best collection of signed cards from 1933 is amazing. Please let us know when Marty's book comes out. The guy should have his own KZread Channel. Another GREAT video by you guys!

Haha I didn’t even notice that! Wow
Funny thing is we had a "card Collectors Club" in Middle School in the early 90s and the teacher who ran that school club was a believer in writing fan letters to players and all 7 of the members of the club starting writing letters, I personally got back 4 autograph replies. Troy Aikman, Andy Pettitte. Haywood Jefferies and Mike Stanley were guys who responded to me and it was the greatest feeling in the world to receive those letters/Photos/auto back. 30+ years later it is one of those reason I still collect today.
Wow those stories of him writing playing and making friends and connecting old friends seriously one of the most amazing stories

Great episode!!!! Ty, I thought you were so kind and respectful towards Harold. You listened to him and tried to explain the “junk wax” era. You even offered him gas money. No way you could have handled that situation any better. Props to you and your team. I so like the story of Marty’s collection and his passion for the 1933 autograph Goudey’s. I would love to read his book when it comes out. Thanks Ty and team for putting in all the long hours to bring us some really neat shows. Your dedication to the hobby and sharing people’s stories and their cards is awesome. 😊
Wow, you guys outdid yourselves… this is instantly a classic episode- can’t wait for Marty’s book! Incredible.
Amazing story, Marty is the definition of a true collector and seems like an amazing guy

Just off that phone call, I'm just as excited for the rest of the video... Love the videos man
Love that he says that TY brings these cards back to the collectors world and hopes they find their forever home . There will always be that one holy grail card for someone out there. That is why we keep chasing cardboard!

Give the people more Harold! 😂
What a story! Why wasn't I writing to players as a kid??
Such an enjoyable watch. From the interesting history that Harold was a part of to Marty's incredible passion for his collection. You cant help but appreciate the meaning behind how he collects and what he collects. It truly is all about community in this hobby. Great job guys!

It brought me to tears...I actually cried...lol! One can't help but feel the passion Marty has for his collection, hobby, and community. And then there was Harold and his story. Truly the best episode yet!!!
I had that same Book as a child. Wrote to various players back then. I do it now as a grown up. It's called TTM. You get some great answers from Ball Players and Football Players when You ask questions.

Can I ask how you're getting a hold of those that are retired? Just sending them to the stadium/offices of the main team they played for?
Great stories and inspiring video. God bless that man 90 years old and still active. Take care.

Exactly. Harold was amazing.
even though the late 80s and early 90s card arent worth much, it was a glorious time for card collecting
Another great job getting folks stories out
This is exactly why I am a Chasing Cardboard fan. Love the stories and Marty has some great one. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Great attitude with Harold. Thumbs 👍
There's something very wholesome about the set building collecting community. Wonderful.
Wow, great episode. Marty is a great collector and curator, and I could listen to him all day long.
This is the kind of channel I've been looking for. Entertaining and tied in a nice bow with humanity. Thank you.

Awesome!! Thanks Nancy!!
I got the Griffey 🤣 Love the respect showed to Mr.Harold.💯
Definitely sensed he was offended at $200. I had an older couple where their son owed them money and they had his cards. I knew it was 1990-1992 basketball. I didn’t even take any $ as I knew I’d just offend them. I showed them an article about junk wax and the prices in ebay for the sets and told them to give em to a grandkid or a neighborhood kid.
I used to send red wings players letters with cards to be signed to the stadium. Not always, but often times i would get my cards back signed. Its an awesome childhood memory of mine. Hockey players are classy people, and i appreciate the effort they put in to engaging with kids.
Great show!! My favourite so far!!
Absolutely awesome episode 😮 love these priceless stories ❤️
The stories of these collections are so good. So good. Thank you Ty for the journey

Fair offer for the first fella.
This guy really knows what he’s talking about. I wish one day I would have as much knowledge about something in the Sports Card world to be like this guy.
This is an amazing story. Thank you for sharing.
Hell of an episode here - been starting to lose my passion for collecting because it's nothing but a haggle and card show/influencer/repack mentality out there trying to make a buck. This guy and his collection are inspiring for sure - and great to see he is a true collector not concerned with the "bottom line" like so many are now.
Wow I would love to see more of Marty. His stories are freaking awesome!!! I can relate with him writing to players in the early 90's up until now. Incredible episode!!!
Fantastic video and stories about the hobby. Best presentation about the hobby i have ever seen.
One of the best hobby story videos I've watched. What a blast!

Love the channel, one of my favorite episodes. I hope he finishes the book, I could listen to his stories for hours. Thank you for sharing.
You should've took a picture and gotten an autograph from Harry since he played with Ernie Banks back in the day's. Who would've known that he played baseball in that Era with one of the greats. Something that you could have for your own personal collection on your travels of chasing cardboard. I love the content and keep doing what you're doing for the whole sports cards collectors and seller's 🙏💞💪💯🧿 thanks for everything
Too bad Mike (Baseball Collector) was not in this episode. He would've loved hearing these great stories in person.
Love the episodes keep it up man

Omg this is so weird. I pulled out a 1991 Becket for a post on Reddit this morning and was flipping thru it and saw an ad for that Jack smelling book! I immediately wondered if there is a modern equivalent 😂. Too odd.
Life is short Marty, sometimes shorter than we expect. Get that book done! I'll be at the Hall in 2033 if that set goes on display. Great stories, unbelievable collection.

@CHASINGCARDBOARD seeing the passion he poured into that 33 goudey set and the responsibility he feels in guarding over those cards is heartwarming. I recently purchased some of the cards Mike Moynihan was selling. I feel honored to hold cards that Mike felt important enough to collect. They are already a cherished part of my collection. Thank you for repping the hobby the way you do brother. It's an honor to support you my friend.
When I’m ready to get cashed out for my collection I’m going to hit u up, u can make a cool Los Angeles episode I live right down the street from the Burbank card store. You just have to pay more than they will !

I absolutely love this show!
Brilliant episode! Well done, Ty, and the CC team - and, let's not forget, the two gentlemen featured in the episode. The first chap is doing very well for his age! He might have thought that you were trying to pull the wool over his eyes, which wasn't the case. Marty has a brilliant collection, and the right mentality! He's an inspiration, and I hope he continues to expand his collection for his enjoyment, and for future generations - and hoping he smashes his goal of completing his book. Fantastic!

Incredible channel! I will watch all the videos with joy. Love from Lisa ❤
I remember back in the 90’s when I was in elementary school I got a book at a book fair that had pro athletes addresses so that you could write to your favorite ball player. I spent countless hours writing to every athlete in that book, and the only responses I got were from Atlanta Braves players. David Justice, Ron Gant, Otis Nixon, and Fred McGriff. From that point forward I was and still am a Braves fan.
Finish the Book! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
