I love working with this chord progression. It’s so great for so many examples and ideas. Mapping triads, harmonies, arpeggios, rhythm, groove …the list goes on and on.

Guthrie, as a 70 year old player of 50+ years, I get so much out of your channel. My knowledge of theory is limited, but I'm learning more from your teaching. Like you say, this is why we love music, it's the feeling of a great melody under the fingers. Everyone's a critic these days, just keep on keeping on and don't let them get to ya, pal. Guthrie please blow off any criticism. This is pure gold man! Guitarists need to play and listen to their ears and use their brains and don't be afraid to experiment and fail. You're by far the best guitar teacher on KZread. The stuff I've learned from you on every lesson is absolutely amazing and I'm pretty advanced. And you're doing it for free so thank you!! Have a great week.

Guthrie's approach to these lesson/advertisements is very helpful to many guitarists out there. A certain level of proficiency is required to really get the most out of them, but I truly love the way he cuts through a lot of the BS. I am highly appreciative of his efforts.

For those that are having a difficult time grasping what GT's doing, I can tell you this is a MASTER'S CLASS amount of information that takes some time to grasp - this isn't for beginners. However, having said that, he's pointing to ALL of the necessary nutrients to get you fed way beyond the simple snacks that so many other teachers are offering. If you stick to what he's explaining here and watch it a hundred times if you have to, it will all fall together in time. There's no rush. This stuff is for keeps - if you have the patience to work it out. Truly. My playing has blossomed exponentially more in the last 2 years of listening to Guthrie than it has in the previous 30 years combined. That is no lie. And I can never thank GT enough for his exceedingly generous gift of sharing this with all of us. ♥🤠👍

Guthrie, your teaching style is among the very best on the internet. When I finally begin teaching, I will model lessons in that 'less theory and more ears' approach. Once the student can move between 3 note chord shapes, which demonstrates they've put in some effort, then introduce basic theory. The ear comes first. Music came first, then it was analyzed and written on the page. Not the other way around.

And you hit the nail on the head regarding theory vs. playing something that sounds good. I am pretty sure the majority of the music I grew up to love, most all of those people knew NO theory and or didn't know how to read music. They just played what sounded good to them. McCartney and Hendrix come to mind. :-) Keep up the great work Guthrie!!

Amen on the not overthinking it man. You are an excellent teacher because you don't cram theory in the lessons. Kudos on these bro. I get it. That "promo" video I did in 2005 to sell my instruction dvds got a ton of views like 700k but a lot of comments about how I suck as a teacher. I'm adhd etc... 😆 Dude, you are killin it. Keep em comin!

Guthrie, you are a very fine teacher. I personally love the density and pace of your lessons. I am still digesting the last lesson because I want to fully incorporate/ingrain those concepts and quite honestly… a majority of the licks and techniques. 😎

Guthrie, You are a legend and a gentleman. Thanks for the knowledge and the break down on a great soul progression I can sink my teeth into. The fills are starting to fall in place. Try not to worry about the noise coming from the peanut gallery. Most of us appreciate the level you are delivering to. You are offering a hand up the next level from advanced beginner. Anyone needing to get foundational information have pick of the litter on YT. Keep doing what you do best : Tasty chords, sweet leads and grade A fills. Love those soulful notes you find!

I like the way you show how to build interesting riffs off of simple chord structures . I think you are a GREAT teacher, who cuts through all the B.S. and gives us the meat and taters! Thank you so much!!!

I absolutely agree that your “dumbed down” approach is exactly what I need to cut through the weeds on music theory. My playing has improved immensely because of you

I'm sorry, but that fella who commented is missing some things. There are folks who need to be hand held through the process. I don't judge that. However, to complain of that you aren't doing enough hand holding in a free video is a shame. Second, CAGED is just a way to see. It ain't a religion, but it's a damned fine way of breaking up the neck into recognizable pieces. Third, EVERYTHING GT drops always feels like its related to CAGED. You aren't paying attention. Do the I-IV-IV in every position with all the tricks he shows. Do this one everywhere, every position with every trick. GT is a freaking gift and giving his stuff away for free. Put some tips in his tip bucket. This guy is a serious pro. Show love. GT - I love your videos and was happy to see you with Oz in NYC. If I get down the Nashville, I'll be reaching out for a lesson.
