My Tonex One arrived today! First thing I did was come back here to use your video for a guide. Most KZreadrs just do a review, but we are so lucky to have someone like Henning actually make a full blown tutorial on not only the sounds, but how to load them, and how to tweak them. Been having a blast with it all evening. Thanks again Henning!

Just ordered it. This little thing will go in a gigbag for any situation. I play bass and guitar live and this will be the backup for the hx stomp, it will be the backup for live gigging with my tube heads, it may end up on a very small board for silent practicing and traveling. At that price point, with that footprint and those features... it's a livesaver and more.

This thing is actually insane. A new guitar player can get this and just go into an audio interface to some decent studio monitors and have an amazing practice setup. Never been a better time to be a guitarist and have amazing tones at such a great price. I only wish this little pedal had MIDI, if it did then it would be perfection. if it had MIDI I would use it with my HX stomp over the big tonex pedal for an amazing flyrig.

Eh not sure how many percentage of new players have interface and studio monitors. Not to mention then the new player could just use plugins instead of this. This also has only reverb. I think IR-2 makes more sense for new player with phones out and pod express with its effects and phones out. Edit. Okay seems that you can plug headphones into this, which is nice!

Henning, I love the Galtone Studios, presets for Tonex, somehow he captured the tones so well, that all of them sound so good, not muddy, but with so much clarity, and replicates the bands as stated. I don't like all of the captures, but some ones, with lots of likes are very good. I believe the quality of capturing also plays a role on how good the preset is. So Tonex is very good for what it is. Do you have your own captured presets? :P Oh I started watching just now.

Awesome video man. The only improvement that I would surely welcome is a gate with downward extention multiband denoising- like the Bertom denoiser. Some of the high-gain Tone models are quiet with the current gate when not playing, but tend to allow a lot of noise and hiss through while playing. I've found the Bertom denoiser ridiculously helpful for in DAW studio recording, but when I play live with Tonex pedal I find room for improvement. Helix has a better gate imo. Outside of this aspect, Tonex is king!

You mention that in Tonet you have found captures of plugins like those from NDSP, and you are right, I myself have captured the best sounds of the plugins that I have simply from the interface using a loop, (there are tutorials on KZread), and I have to say that in some cases they are amazing and that it even improves them by giving them different nuances such as impossible gains. Honestly, we don't know where we are going to go, but these advances seem amazing to me.

@@JohnWiku There's plenty of people who care about Kemper, but a lot of people wouldn't even go for it because it was very expensive when it first came out (and honestly it kinda still is). Now, they finally come up with a more affordable version in a convenient form factor, and suddenly it's still too expensive..? Just remember that neither Tonex comes with an array of effects and that you'd still have to integrate it into a more complete setup, which adds to the value of the whole rig, comparably to a single Kemper Player, which is pretty usable from the get go with its onboard effects. Sadly, both products seem flawed to me, as neither have an FX loop to position external effects strategically, so I'm not entirely on the boat of either device. I'm a Helix/Fractal enjoyer after all. I'd take the flexibility of amp models vs the hassle of amp profiles any day, but that's just because I don't own a physical amp myself to profile. That being said, I still think this is a great product, and they really outdid themselves with such a small form factor while retaining powerful features. But it's just not for me.

The preset sharing for devices is kinda getting out of hand IMO. 20k presets is insane. I'd argue it defies the point of being able to share them in the first place, because nobody will ever be able to go through them all and/or find actual good ones among the thousands upon thousands. It'll be just like tabs/chords and such - there's a bazillion tabs/chord and sites full of them on the internet, and the vast majority of them are pretty much unusable, because they're usually hilariously inaccurate to the point where they'll tell you to play completely different chords that don't even make sense (my favorite is when they tell you to play for example a major chord where the song uses a minor one instead). And just like with tabs, more and more often, people just go "preset anyone?" instead of actually trying to come up with something themselves. (And don't get me started on pretty much everyone trying to monetize their presets, that's a plague of online communities lately.)

Not a good live solution for me (I'll stick with my Kemper 😉), but I can imagine it will be perfect for many people who just want some great tones. If they could make a reasonably priced big brother (bigger than the original ToneX obviously) with plenty of foot switches (think Quad Cortex/Kemper Stage form factor) for ease of use when playing live, I think IK could start outselling the current big boys in the profiling/capturing game. I know I'd be tempted to switch 😁

I always agreed with you in the past ;-) I have eg. bought the mesa boogie reference pack and feel great about it because it is official. What is your opinion on using a tonex profile of eg a preamp used in the 80s that no longer is produced, so in this way I would feel a little better...not harming an amp manufacturer as such...Thanks for your opinion on this...I do hope that IK Multimedia will continue to work with amp manufacturerer in the future and that more official approved tonex packs will come along...Are the orange and fender tonex captures officially approved by the manufacturerer as you mentioned in your video? Or was it not only for the amp sims that this is referenced to? Thanks so much...keep on the great work, love your channed since many years....Cheers

Hello, comparing Ampero with Tonex or Kemper, which sounds are more authentic four you ?

I see what you did here, Henning) Clearly, the best use case of this pedal (and the Tonex platform, imho) - is to profile your amps/pedals/sound. And to use them when needed. As you showed here. I don't think it's communicated properly (in general, not by you per se) the difference between modeling and capturing software. Capturing is kinda tricky one. If you don't do capturing yourself. Imagine someone done some capturing. That person used, balanced for them, gain setting of the soundcard input gain, make specific settings of the amp or the rig for their particular use case (gain, volume, EQ + maybe cabinet/pedal settings etc). And then you are trying to use that capture with your vintage low output single coil guitar to achieve their captured hi-gain amp/rig sound (probably done for use with hi output active pickups, etc.) Great move with your captures, btw!

Midi capability would really excel here. It would probably change the size factor, but 2 of these running stereo on a smaller board with midi to change amps/settings with a pedalboard with be wild.

Henning, I have a question if you have a second. I know it’s not a live chat, but is it advisable to use a separate noise gate pedal with this or does this have a software solution for that.

Now all we need is IK to make a mini version of the H90, and you could do basically anything with two pedals and a Cab M+.

I noticed you were playing a Schecter Tele. I almost got the Adam Jones 1979 Epiphone, but canceled the order and got the Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder PT FR-S and I'm very happy that I did! Love it.

Mmh very tempting!! But, does works also with a 4 CM with an Hx Effects(If you already got one)? P.S. Really cool review, what was missing was, yes you have an 20 preset Basic Setup, what comes with the Pedal in Terms of possible Software, what is free and what you must pay in Terms of downloads??

You can tell when HPi loves the gear, his playing soars! Question : I use Amplitube 5 already : can you put these presets on it or only Tonex's?

i guess Nuno will want this amp back when he sees this video... how doesthe pedal / presets / captured sounds react to reduced guitar volume? I would guess this pedal does not (cant?) react like the real deal?

It might be a stupid question but as the ToneX one is also an interface but it does not have any outputs apart from the USB, how do we connect it to powered speakers? Vielen Dank im Voraus. Cheers.

This is just an INSANE piece of equipment - and at a ridiculous price for what you get. How long will I hold out before pulling the trigger? Probably as long it takes to shift some of my existing gear. Oh - and superb video. Your commitment to both your arts of content creation and guitar playing is to be applied.
