Magic the Gathering will always have a place in my heart, but I also love exploring new TCGs. I started playing games in college after years of failing at sports and have been addicted ever since.
Pokemon started the craze and addiction - moving me away from baseball cards and into the world of constant organization.

We need like a 2 hour cam of just the card sorter sorting. Maybe play some music or something while it's going. I think a lot of people would watch that.

I like the approach you are taking to balance card sorting. I am always looking for a few commons and uncommons and my local LGSs either don't bother putting them out or just have an insane unsorted bulk bin to go through. It would be great to just even have color/first letter. I'd much rather give that money to an LGS than always going to TCGPlayer. And I'm more likely to find a few other cards I might want. I do get to the point if the bulk bin is too big I just don't want to waste my time digging. I hope that you find a great value out of that sorter!

If you sort by set release date, alphabetical, penny wrap individual foils, penny wrap MP/HP/DG cards you can be in alignment with TCGPlayer Direct reimbursement pull lists.

This is so interesting, thanks for sharing. Have you thought about listing all of your bulk rares as singles and setting a minimum price of 50 cents to help players find the cards no one lists?

I would do it by mana cost. If people are looking for a card they often forget the name but remember the cost more often. I’ve been playing 28 years and I have found that the best.

Does the sorter have the capability to inventory your bulk in real time? If so, then you could probably find some way to link your bulk inventory list created by the sorter to one of the online price tracking apps/websites and get alerts when bulk cards spike in price. If a $0.30 card goes to $2 because a cool new tribal commander got printed, you could find out about that instantly and you may be able to just go grab it from the appropriate sorted bulk box.

Not sure I get it. You paid 3k for a machine that is continually driving up your power bill than just have employees you already have on site sort through the bulk as "busywork"... That seems like a luxury expense. Being excited that you can charge customers to sort their bulk doesn't seem like something to be all that excited about. But maybe I'm missing something.

This thing is scanning the cards as it sorts them, so the store will be able to have an inventory of cards, and someone can ask, "Hey, do you have any Errant Ephemerons?" and the clerk can be like, "Lemme check. We have 15 Errant Ephemerons. They're in our Blue E bulk." Then, the customer can windmill slam a Lincoln to buy all 15 after digging through the bulk and finding them. Then, the customer will hoot and holler and jump for joy and click their heels in midair, because they have 15 new friends that can be 4/4 flyers with haste on turn 6 for the low low price of 1U.

@@collinbeal and a store clerk who has nothing better can't do that themselves? I get that it's convenient. I don't see how that's a necessity however. If they were uploading and selling the bulk directly as to ensure the thing pays for itself it's one thing. Unless there's a bunch of people with several 5k row boxes that frequent the shop I don't see what it's purpose is once the "bulk shelf" is sorted. Don't get me wrong. It's cool he bought one and is showcasing how it can be used to streamline sorting...but for most mom and pop shops I fail to see how you justify the purchase in the long-term once your bulk is organized it's literally just gonna sit there and collect dust until a customer pays for sorting service. Which loops back to...have your employees sort the bulk and write it down on a spreadsheet.

@@kazekage_gaara_-8027I don't know if you were paying attention to the bulk shelf portion, but he has over 80,000 cards to sort through from the look of things. This reader is going to take almost half a year to sort these cards twice to get them in the state he wants them in. Do you know how much paying an employee for half a year's labor is? There are innumerable other things the employees could be doing with their time that is worth more than sorting through bulk. This machine is going to pay for itself 4x over just in labor savings were he to hire someone to sort the cards by hand, let alone the incentivization for customers and the money it will extract by finding expensive cards in the bulk. My first response was in jest, even though the point about inventory stands, but this machine is pulling 5x its price in value even before the potential sorting service, whereas having his employees hand-sort the cards in their free time, which would take roughly 2 years unless he hires a dedicated employee to do so in 6 months on a contractual basis, would be actively throwing money down the toilet. This is a huge project, not a smattering of busywork.

Spoken like someone who's never worked in a card store. Not only will this thing pay itself off in a matter of days, but he gives plenty of reasons in the video why this will be such an advantage. You also are making a lot of asumptions about the card store. My local card store is busy all the time, even without about 4-5 employees regularly working at the same time (which is a lot for a small buisness btw) there's almost always someone tied up doing this exact job instead of being able to assist with a customer who has questions / a potential buyer. There' almost no downside to something like this. Not only that, but you assume a lot of "busy work" like employees have nothing else to do. There's always something to do at a store like this / ways to improve your commuinities experience while they're present in your store. And if you've ever had to sort cards day after day (and i'm talking boxes upon boxes of commons) that constantly arrive at your door, you'd know what kind of truley mind numbing work that is. Give me the option to help a customer / let them have a better experience in my store because I'm paying attention to them over staring at quite literally endless stacks of cards and I will choose the former every time.

@@RedcapCheekSlap I have worked in a card shop. Sells comics, tabletop game and TCG's. Store doesn't get busy until the afternoon/evening. Card sorting in the morning while people come in and pick up their subs is the norm here. But hey, if you have that much traffic in commons and uncommons coming through your doors maybe this thing is for you.
