I reckon you've nailed it there Vass. One thing that always catches me out in any Aussie videos is when you say things like "50 bucks for 2 servos was a bargain" or "Its cheap at around $500", etc.. I use those exact servos & they're only around £11 on Ebay & I've seen the EX07 roller for around £400.. I paid £113 with £6 shipping for a ZD Racing 9116 Pirates 2 (stupidest name ever btw, I'm embarrassed when people ask what it is) roller from European Banggood.. (5 days delivery👍). What's with that.? Do you guys get paid $50 an hour minimum wage to the UKs £8.72 pittance.? LOL... Stay safe out there mate & best wishes from Scotland..! 😜 👍

This car utilizes most of the 1/8 zd parts. So theoretically you could make a mt or truggy utilizing the chassis or make it a truggified street basher

Vas so glad you bought it, I to bought the roller and honestly it looks great. Sure it's not perfect but then what is. They all break when you're doing 80kmh+ 😊 Anyway nice vid as usual 👍

Have you tried using the Mixing feature on the DX5C? I think it might allow you to use the reverse trigger for the servo brake in addition to the ESC brake

Finally someone tackling the car who knows what he is talking about. Looking forward to your opinion and review. Personally I think this car isn't worth it. Especially considering the quality of the electronics on the rtr-version this is ridiculously expensive. And even the roller isn't that much cheaper than an Arrma Limitless. Pricing of this thing just isn't very clever.

I accept use of unauthorized IP is thef. That said, I doubt Ken Block will go hungry. Excellent quality video BTW.

Bought the RTR version of this. It came with two LIPO’s, Sadly both of these were Shit. One of the only came up as a 2 cell and I could not get the other to balance at all, no matter what I tried. So ordered some additional batteries so that I can give it its first run.

Next question. Will this body fit on a felony chassis

Parts is absolutely no problem for arma/zd racing shares every part possible, everything you can think of between all of their 1:7 and 1:8 cars.

I like the look of this and seems to be pretty durable but yes get the Roller the electrics especially their ESC, the body is not the best fit, having bought a couple of electric large scale as I am a 5th gas die hard, but I have the UDR and the 30degrees North Super Desert Truck LOSI SBR clone is far better than the V1 but not the V2 having said that it is a lot more robust all I have managed to do is a little front body damage where as my friend is waiting on all the left front suspension and steering plus C hubs and C hub carriers all done from a 25mph crash, so I have been looking at getting this in the roller format but prices have been jacked up on most manufacturer's stock so still not sure, as far as everything other than the electrics is pretty good tyres do not last long so if I do buy one I will get a second set maybe even a second body time will tell.

I have to order parts online for all of my cars,if its arrma or traxxas,so no issue here

@@AussieRCPlayground let me rephrase - it definitely has more bling & maybe its the gold anodise that is throwing me off haha... even with the additional features that you pointed out & that I've noticed, it just seems that some good thought has gone into improving it with features such as: - mechanical brake (similar to what 1:8 pancars use for racing) - alloy rear hubs - alloy front steering blocks - 2 piece rear driveshaft (to avoid oscillation, well done) - cable holders - twin motor fans (fan quality is probably weak but its there) - alloy shock cups - twin top brace - cnc machined shock towers ...& its cool how they've branded the driveshafts, shock cups, wheel nuts & battery straps...its a nice addition nice IMO...& that body looks amazing! ESC & servo is junk yes but I think the motor should be ok & I'll be running a Spektrum 150A ESC on mine - I haven't driven it yet so maybe my opinion will change once I benchmark it against my Felony & Limitless but I will report back once I've driven it :)

I was always big into 1/8 buggy ZD racing.

Ooh yeah. Been waiting for this one. I got the RTR as it was only a bit more than the roller and you get some ok 3S lipos that were actually balanced. All on point as usual Vas. I switch out the steering servo for a Team Corally one and the thing is bitchin'. Disclaimer: I'm a MASSIVE Ken Block fan and I've bought enough merch to not fell any remorse about getting this. ☺ A little additional context: KBs Ford contract expired not long after this model became available. (He's no longer allowed to drive the Hoonicorn!) I'm no lawyer, but I reckon there's probably a huge legal void where this model was nicely placed. I don't think that was a coincidence. I just saw that lots of parts are now available on AliExpress so I've just ordered some wheels. Matter of time😆

Just because kb's licensing went out doesn't mean that anybody else is allowed to do replicas now. This thing is nonetheless stealing branding from Ford, Hoonicorn and fast and furious. Not that it bothers me personally, but it's still a fact.

@@subzerolives You use fiberglass drywall tape, comes in a roll, and shoe goo to reinforce the body on the underside. If you Google the process, a lot of RC guys do it to their bashers

There is a seller on AliExpress that sells all the parts for the ZD Racing EX07 1/7 RC Car. The seller is Shop910740153 Store as they have every part available from the body shell to wheels, screws, differentials. If it is in the parts list they have it and the prices are not cheap.

Buy the roller version. You will be much happier.

Cheers for the review Vas. I came so close to buying this car. (Not bothered about it being licensed) Was going to put the 1600kv X-Maxx motor and a HW Max6 and make it an 8S monster. I went to look up parts support and found near nothing. That was about 3-4 months ago. Even now you can only buy wheels, a body.. wheel nuts. No diffs, driveshafts, A-Arms etc. Kinda frightening to think, if you crash it and can't get parts for it, rendering it useless for whatever length of time. Real shame that as the car looks great.

The reason you dont see alot of parts is the arms, steering, and im sure probably even diffs and diff cases are all shared with their 1/8 counterpart street cars as well as the 9116 and pirate3 monster truck

So I keep hearing "non licensed" body in regards to this. What aspect isn't licensed, the Mustang/Ford part, or the Hoonigan branding? I could care less about the Ford part. And I suspect they also get way with it because it is far from a "stock" Mustang. The Hoonigan aspect bothers me, but as far as we know Ken Block might actually be amused by it and not care... I did dome Google-fy and didn't come up with a solid answer, but did find the licensed HPI racing version. Very different from this.

well, i wish you good luck with it. from what i have seen it is pretty fragile.

Would have been cooler, and not come off almost instantly as an Arrma Felon copy, to use some other muscle car body. I'm guessed ZD is regional to that part of the world and Australia has some seriously cool Classic Muscle cars to pick from. And if you have to go American, try something other than a the Mustang or Camaro.

I sometimes think that the reason there are so many KO's from China is probably down to the fact that the original products are made there so the factory just makes some for the original company and then some for themselves to sell. Better profit margins when you are getting paid to make a product that you then sell for yourself 😉

Anyone have a link for these tires, AliExpress or otherwise? I can't find them anywhere. I can find a really cheap 1/8 tire that says it's zd but they're $9 for four, so they won't be belted, which is a deal breaker. I'm not being "that lazy comments guy" here, I've searched myself to no avail, and would really love to try these tires out, since they're half the price i pay for my Hoons, which only last 3 battery packs. Agreed. I wouldn't spend this much esp. as parts availability is almost non existent. Better to go with something actually supported by Arrma or Traxxas or Associated.

Dbx 10 is 1/10 scale, anyone whos ran them knows the 1/10 diffs arent that good, they especially dont like 3s in most of the 1/10 models, the larger 1/8 diffs are fine as long as you make sure to check them before running, dbx10 uses alot of parts from the zmt10 and ztx 10, front arms are similar to the lrp blast

I dont know how alot of people break so many parts in their 1/8 zd racing trucks, i agree theyre not arrma tough since they need a sturdier chassis, but it took me smacking a curb at 35mph to break an arm, i have 2 zd racing vehicles and just like all other companies they have some issues, some inconsistency is expected. I do agree the they need to revise and improve, plastic chassis braces dont belong on a 1/8 monster truck if your going to get considerable air
