For those of us with grey hair, or no hair😮, this was the theme song for a 1960s TV show. It wasn't James Bond, but Bond movies where in the theaters, so it may have been inspired. I watched the show every week.

@@BobGeogeo In England where it was first created as a half hour show, later changed to one hour, it was always known as Danger Man, and even had it's own, different theme. Secret Agent Man was written for the same hour long episodes for CBS to run at the same general time ...Thus Johnny River's gets a BIG hit out of it. Patrick McGoohan was asked several times to be James Bond but always turned them down, he didn't like the womanizing aspect and was married with children, had a family to consider.

"Secret Agent Man" was a transplanted and syndicated British TV show in the 60s, called "Danger Man" in the UK. The song was used to give it a more "Americanized" flavor for the US market. It starred Patrick McGoohan as the "agent." Though the show had nothing to do with 007, like many other shows at the time, it rode its coattails. If you're interested, watch its "unofficial" sequel: "The Prisoner."

Ha! Sarah, I loved that! ❤ I'm so glad you got to hear this other facet of Johnny Rivers music. He is just an impeccable singer and performer. While James Bond was the king of secret agents, there were a number of other movies and TV shows around at the same time which tried to build on that secret agent mystique. So I think Johnny's song is more an ode to that whole genre of glamorous secret agents. Very much a 60s phenomenon. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 😁🤗❣️

And even today - when bands - ANY BAND - wants to launch audience reactions, start THIS song, or TICKET TO RIDE or a few others. These are guaranteed "git 'em up on their feet and make 'em move."

SUMMER RAIN is amazing because it came out after SGT PEPPERS and eulogizes that work's fame in the chorus. Amazing, but so smart because it guaranteed SUMMER RAIN's hit-status - although but itself it is worthy of hit status.

My favorite J.R. song. Accurate lyrics..In most of the Bond movies, There's always a woman trying to seduce him and then kill him. In the last film, " No Time To Die", A female agent is angry at Bond for making her look bad in the field. While 007 is in a conference with M, She says to Money Penny, " I can see now why you shot him." ( She'd done it accidentially 7 years back) Money Penny smiled back, " Well, every girl tries at least once"
