I was watching Lira's content in Ukraine. I've probably seen 70% of it. That's a lot of hours. The claim that he would have endangered anyone by revealing position is nonsensical on its face. He was a public anti Zelensky's figure, undoubtedly seen as pro Russian even. He had less chance than anyone else to be privy to any field information. And BTW he never revealed any. His content wasn't about that. As far as information went he was a commentator, not a journalist. He spoke of nothing that wasn't already publicly online, save for mentioning hearing shots in Kharkiv from his flat. You can disagree with the man on many things (I sure did) but we should not pretend that this accusation is anything else than made up charges to dress up opinion prosecution. Those one you can understand in Ukraine's situation but people with a clean consciousness on this should like Willy here understand that this in now way can be a justification for murder by poor treatment in Ukraine. People he was in contact with (History Legends) mentionned he was bullied, tortured and scammed out of his money too in his jail. Don't say there is "no evidence". Hearsay are evidence. You can dispute that evidence, preferably in court. But it's receivable.

Makes indeed no sense, he didn't have the insight and overall: if a journalist would have, that's the problem of the army to allow that. It's absurd enough to think that Russia would give a single fuck about social media when it comes to surveillance. They got satellites, planes and tenthousands of drones, while social media is full of garbage no sane person would trust.

In practice, being pro-peace means being pro some sort of settlement. I would guess he was imprisoned and killed for network topological reasons (bringing together and creating access to anti-war or pro-Russian voices), simple extortion (to get at his money), and most crucially because he personally got up the nose of American media and Victoria Nuland by criticising them for fomenting a conflict.

I have a little problem with the fact that you went over minutes and minutes of how journalists could potentially compromise, military positioning movement, etc, however, Gonzalo Lira did none of this. He was a commentator on Zelensky. If anyone should be in prison it would be you, in Palestine, live streaming attacks. He provided political commentary that was in opposition to Zelensky. We know how much you love your pet, but he's off the rails and out of control. And so Gonzalo Lira is gone. Not for opsec leaks, but for telling the truth about a corrupt authoritarian anti-democratic leader.

Lira merely stated his opinions, he correctly stated that the war was avoidable and unwinnable and would result in a lot of suffering to the people of Russia and Ukraine. If the Zelensky government was unhappy about Lira's statements he should have been deported. Both the US. and Ukraine governments are complicit in his murder!

The Zelensky government knew that his health was bad and they chose to imprison him in harsh conditions.THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH!! As for the harsh conditions in Ukraine, I'm very sorry for that, like Lira I felt that the war was avoidable and unwinnable for Ukraine from the start because Russia is much bigger, it's national interests are at stake, and it has nuc lear wea pons! Was there medical personnel available? Grim but possibly true, did they need to make simple choices between who is a gonner and who has a good chance to be saved? Isnt the Ukrainan health care system not seriously compromised due to Russian attacks on Ukrainan health care institutions? Even did he never receive proper treatment, this doesnt have to be neglect by the Ukrainan health care system because theyre being over asked. Lira stated himself that he wouldnt survive prison due to his poor health. So why do you think, it has to be murder?

That's why we support them so wholeheartedly, because their values align PERFECTLY with our politicians values. Zero regard for human life, zero regard for freedom of speech, zero regard for freedom of religion, zero regard for fair and just criminal system, zero regard for free and fair elections, zero regard for anything and everything written about in the Constitution of the United States. Money and power is the absolute primary focus of the US and Ukrainian government. That is where their values align and why "we" can continue to support them. You can understand why the average American does not approve of the Ukrainian war. There's a reason why the populace of the United States is so solidly against Ukraine's war crimes against Russia and the Eastern provinces of what used to be Ukraine. The people see the lies, they see the truth. They don't need a nanny state to tell them what to think, they have their own minds. Our government seems to think that its job is to propagandize and manipulate everyone to their point of view, which is why they are tanking in the polls.

at first glance it indeed seems obvious that releasing and expelling gonzalo from ukraine would have been the smart option. it would have cost the usa government nothing more than a 5 minute phone call to the ukrainian regime to make this happen. but who knows what gonzalo, once out of ukraine (and thus out of sbu's reach) might have told the public about his detention. gonzalo has been very sick in the last weeks, so him dying wasn't unexpected, and i'm certain ukrainian and usa authorities have carefully weighed the bad look gonzalo dying in ukrainian prison would cast against the unpleasant things he might have revealed after his release.

They were not living together but he was living in karkhov and was close enough to see them from time to time, which he posted about. He was generally right in his opinions about nearly all he spoke about but had the significant problem of keeping his mouth shut after being officially told to shut it. He got a SBU visit, a talking to, then was arrested later again when he kept on speaking against the zelensky regime. He was picked up again, then later released again and given his passport and ids and motorcycle back, but told to stay in ukraine pending a court date. They knew he would run, since he had passport in hand and likely had his id flagged. Thus he was picked up again. He's have been better off putting up a white flag and making a run for the russian or belarussian border than going west.

Gonzalo didn't do original reporting. He gave opinion and analysis based on information in the public domain. He did say that Ukraine's government was dominated by Nazis and they abduct and murder people who oppose them. That turned out to be true in his case. He had round table discussions with people from around the world that were interesting but were opinion and not the release of Ukraine's military secrets. He could have done that from any country and should have left a country ruled by Nazis before saying they are Nazis. He knew he would be murdered but he kept speaking out against evil anyway.

Well all opposition parties leaders and their staff simply vanished in the first days of the war , where are they ? Hmmm? Only one was dragged out of prison half alive to be exchanged for azov fighters which Putin didn’t go for.

Strange, I lived in Ukraine longer than he did and I didn’t see a single Nazi. I guess he posted lots of video evidence of these Nazis? No, I thought not… stop being a plonker

Gonzalo Lira was a fantasist and a pathological liar. He appeared regularly on Putin shill sites like the disbarred lawyer Alexander Mercouris at the Duran.

There is not proof Ukrainian government having nazis. It was elected in 2019. Those are just Russian fabrications and Gonzalo was a propagandist who didn't respect wartime rules of media engagement.

I mean with Gonzalo it was to be expected. If you make videos about how corrupt and criminal the Kiev regime is, one would think you would expect the Kiev regime to behave criminally. Anyone with more than room temp iq saw this coming from miles away.

I've known Gonzalo Lira, RIP, since before the war. He was a cantankerous, conservative realist about the state of society that really annoys many people around the world. Double standards in politics and false media reports have been topics for discussion, among other things. He was on the day when Russia, February 24, 2022, in Kiev and reported live about conditions in Kiev and his train ride back to Krakow. He remarked that this was an unusual start to the war. There was electricity and internet, trains could run without attacks. As a witness and commentator on the attacks of the secret police, Assassinations of mayors and even a participant in negotiations in Belarus. He described the fear of the violent gangs of a Jewish oligarch and friend of the president. Komsomolsky is the name of this powerful oligarch and founded in 2014, financed the notorious ASOW units. He was also the owner of the largest private bank that had been nationalized. This was information that Gonzalo Lira discussed. Nothing about military etc.
