    Great reaction. I loved your thoughtful comments. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 4 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s songs are generally recorded live in a single take. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of his songs resonate with me because he addresses struggles that I myself face every day. He plays multiple instruments, has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline, or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. It has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

    I hear the song as a number of transitions between characters: - Ren (beginning of the song) - "Evil" Ren (lights flickering) - "Good" Ren (no lights flickering) - The Demon/Evil (or Doubt) - The Dark - The Angel/Good (or Hope) - The Light - The combined/actual Ren - both the light and the dark... both an Angel and a Demon... and both Good and Evil (lights are flickering again) - Ren - "The Human Being" (Speech at the end) That is how I mapped it out in my head. Plus... the fact that this for all appearances appeared to be live... is more impressive.

    As Ren himself has said and as the closing monologue makes clear, this isn't a song about chronic illness or mental illness. It's about the human condition generally. He references his health, mental AND physical, a few times but he references a lot of other things to. It's about realising that darkness is part of life and part of us. It can't be banished and helps shape who we are. Once this simple but painful fact is accepted, life becomes that little bit easier and the dark becomes easier to deal with too. :)

    I'm 39 and my sun hasn't risen yet. I hope I do get a sunrise for my daughters sake. Maybe it's me that's the sun rises for her...I'm still battling with the system and people. I don't have 1 person in my life but myself And her. I've been through even tried to escape life but death wouldn't even except me. Some day I would like my art to get out there to share the world the damage they are doing. I feel and hope that this is the generation where the people will rise and the people that are blinded by money and greed will see and hear us. Thank you ren. At least someone had the ability to use technology in a positive way ..and not a escape. We will be the teachers.

    I love your Ren reactions but I sort of partly disagree with one of sentiments. Physical illness sometimes bring on mental illness and sometimes the mental illness needs medicines. The trick is to find doctors that truly research, track and help manage the medicines as much as the patients. The meds should be a means to an end, not the final goal. That is peace and happiness.

    I don’t think anyone rational would disagree with that but in Ren’s case I believe his sense of embitterment comes from a misdiagnosis, which resulted in inappropriate treatment. To be fair to all those concerned Lymes disease is incredibly difficult to diagnose because it manifests itself differently in different people and produces symptoms frequently associated with other illnesses and the symptoms can take years to appear. Furthermore Lyme’s disease used to be very rare in the UK which made diagnosis even more problematic,( although it has become a lot more common over the last decade or so). None of this is however, if you happen to be an unfortunate individual who has been misdiagnosed for 5 years or more) is any consolation.

  • @AliCatzRR

    @AliCatzRR

    @@supertuscans9512 Yup and he really is not the exception in the UK right now I'm in a very similar situation and I would not even go into my doctors and mention that they might do good to at least test me for Lymes because its just pointless no one listens. My journey with the docs for years has been like this In reflection I have had PTSD for at least 32 years and everything on my records would have pointed to that probability but I was ignored 15 years ago I had a personal physical health issue which was being ignored that was stopping me from going out and even leaving the house or letting people in and I was ignored, and denied a solution because "at 34 I'm too young and might want another child despite making it very clear I don't I mean I swear if I had gone in and ask for my dick tubes to be tied they would have done it there was no excuse for them to refuse. and the circumstances were actually quite dire. Then other physical health issues accumulated until I could not stand for long and if I did I was in pain and my breathing laboured I was not being listened too. my body has been fighting something for years according to my white blood cell count that has been wholly ignored and then I got bedbound I can walk but the pain is so bad I pay for it by being bedbound again I have had eye lid droops and ticks and inflammation in my face my body the list goes on there is so much going on so I get loud about it in the doctors so this was four years ago nearly five All of a sudden I am sent for MH assessments and bobs ya uncle I am diagnosed with PTSD ADHD and ASD. so yeah phew ! I and others kinda suspected some of that anyway. So now can we get back to exploring why I am having all these physical issues? Nope that's not what happened and then I hit a 215 over 195 blood pressure so yes I got meds for that however Bet you my blood pressure will not have got that bad if I was not bed bound. So I continue slowly cause im in pain to go to docs occasionally asking can you please get to the bottom of my physical issues? and here I am still no sign of that on around 32 pills a day, no nearer with them getting to the bottom of what is causing me all the problems. I am having particularity the pain and inflammation the side effects of the meds are making me fatter and exacerbating my physical health issues and they lack of exploration of my physical issues is most definitely exacerbating my MH issues They have not even sent me to as much as a rheumatologist or in instance where my talus bone feels like its crumbing or something I have still not been sent for as much as an x-ray. before they advise me I can self refer to a physio which is pointless because it will make it way way worse and did. Of course all that time on my hands which I would far prefer to use having a life, has lead me to explore google/google scholar for many possibilities but if they cant even be bothered to send me to a pretty standard specialist to look at the inflammation/pain issues and at what also keeps leading me to have pneumonia etc, then I just know that it's pointless to go in and asked them to consider lymes or ME or anything else. I think this is the case for so many in the UK right now I am tired and I honestly think if my physical issues could be diagnosed and bought under control my mental wellbeing would be so much less of a problem than it is now So yeah @DaddouDan is right physical issues can indeed bring on or exacerbate MH issues but bearing in mind both mine and the experience of others it does almost seem like a bit of a cop out system I mean they ignored all them issues I had until I wa begging for them to explore my physical issues and well once you are diagnosed with MH issues, it does seem that no matter how you express yourself it is ignored and put down to your MH issues rather than them actually bothering with looking into anything else Rens song Sick boi vids really resonating with me at the moment Part of me feels like kicking off just like that because I am absolutely raging with frustration The process is actually traumatising me but of course that will be put squarely down to my past trauma and I will just be ignored

    Ren posted this update on his health on Friday, 27, January 2022: "I don't know why I find it so hard to share this information, I guess because I never wanted to make my health problems my identity, I feel like Ren the person is so much more than Ren the health victim, but if this journey I'm on can help anyone else going through the same thing, its worth swallowing my pride. A lot of people have been asking me for my treatment update, and ive been replying individually but then getting a lot of emails and messages which is quite overwhelming to try and respond to them all, especially during treatment, so I'd be super grateful if anyone sees comments on my videos/posts etc asking how treatments going if you could point them in the direction of this post. I've been treating here in canada for the past week and a half now. I sat down with the doctor and he explained last week that through all the extensive testing he did back in October, including lots of blood work ups, X-rays, samples etc. and MRI scans of my brain that the damage to my body from a having misdiagnosed Lyme disease and autoimmunity was quite extensive. There was significant damage to parts of my brain and many inflammatory markers in my body. The obvious markers of pathology were antibodies to the myelin in my brain, thyroid, adrenals, and bones and a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder which would explain my symptom picture quite well. To put it simply my immune cells have been attacking my own body. Because my immune systems been compromised by years of basically being at war by itself it has also held on to some long standing viral infections and not been able to detox things like mold/heavy metals/and toxins properly. Initially the plan was to be here for 3 months but because of the complexity of what's going on he's said i'll need to be here for 6 months minimum. It's a lot to wrap my head around having to be away from friends, family and a successful career and almost feels like a total juxtaposition to the fact that my music is blowing up right now and spreading to all corners of the world, but thats life, we take the good with the bad. The good news is because we now know what's wrong, we now have a road map for healing. I know its not going to be an easy path, but I know its one i'm determined to walk. I had to quit smoking cold turkey last week for obvious reasons while going through treatment which was one of my crutches for when I was stressed, so have felt the withdrawals messing with my mood a bit this week, but I've got a solid reason to quit, so I'm just bareknuckling it. I'm currently going into the clinic for IV's every Monday to Friday for an hour, firstly trying to build my body up by correcting all the nutritional deficiencies that were found due to being on a restricted diet for so long, and also implementing a lot of stress reduction techniques to get my body optimised for healing. Also found some low grade inflammation from some dental problems so will be going in for surgery to correct that in February to ensure there's nothing contributing to inflammation in my body. Once i'm in a stronger place to deal with it I'll start treating with antivirals and more aggressive treatments. The most positive thing, is I looked my doctor in the eye, who is used to treating countless very complex cases, and asked him, if there's a chance I can get back to being in a pain free body with the energy of a healthy person, and he said if I stick to this, there is a good chance I can either get my autoimmunity into remission and recover or at least make enough improvements to live a much more comfortable life. Want to thank everyone for supporting my music because that's been the best silver lining to this I could have asked for, reading through comments of support for Hi Ren and Sick Boi has really elevated my spirits, and having an exciting future to look forward too makes this process much easier, so thank you! Ren"
