You guys gotta stop comparing the cycles like that. The 2020 cycle got cut short by the China, miners going off-line and major major institutional manipulation. Stop looking at it like a double top, and inverse that dip… That’s where the top should’ve been… measure to and from that. That would’ve put us over 110,000… And in that case, we currently wouldn’t be at an all-time high, Which would also put us more on track with previous cycles. This would also put us on track to about a 300k top this cycle, and a dip down to around 100k in the next bear market. Which then align with pretty much everyone’s predictions without breaking any previous cycles.

So, the conviction was for falsifying business records. This wasn't just entered something wrong - it was demonstrated that it was a concerted, on going, deliberate scheme to falsify records. That's illegal. But it's only a misdemeanor. To make it a felony, it has to be shown that it was in service of another crime. There's several possible crimes it could have been demonstrated to be connected to, but the clearest one is campaign finance. Campaign finance is complicated, but basically, you can't just give a campaign money or something of value without certain restrictions and declarations. To do otherwise is to commit a crime. Since that NDA was in service of an election bid, that was essentially an undeclared donation to a campaign. Hence it bumping the misdemeanor up to a felony, under NY law. Trying to conflate it with other things Presidents do, acting in their official capacity as President, is just misdirection. Not to say those things are right, but we also don't usually think of killing people in war the same as we do murder either. It's essentially the difference between a nation doing it and an individual doing it. Doesn't make it right, but it's also sort of the way society is.

Might just be ignorant - legal stuff is super nuanced and, unless you're really paying attention, its easy for the nuance to get lost though the hype and hysteria. Funny thing is the illegal part wasn't even the election subversion. It was the coverup. If he had simply paid for the NDA out of election funds and properly recorded it as such, there would be no issue. Honestly, given his supporters, he could have just let the story come out and he probably would have gotten elected. Sort of like what brought Nixon down, actually. As far as we can tell, Nixon probably wasn't involved with the Watergate breakin itself. If, when he was made aware of the crime, he had referred it to the justice department and not tried to cover it up, he probably would have been fine. Embarrassed, sure, but fine.

@@sr4169 A quick Google search says this: Misdemeanors, regardless of the offense, are subject to a statute of limitations of two years in New York. Conversely, falsifying business records in the first degree is considered a Class E felony, which carries a statute of limitations of five years. So, nope, not past the statue of limitations (they need only initiate legal action within that period, not actually have the trial). Not a show trial. Do you even know what that term means? Here's Wikipedia: "A show trial is a public trial in which the guilt or innocence of the defendant has already been determined. The purpose of holding a show trial is to present both accusation and verdict to the public, serving as an example and a warning to other would-be dissidents or transgressors." Trump had the same ability to choose jurors as any other - jurors that were chosen like they would be in any other case. He had the best lawyers that he could hire. The entire flow of the trial was entirely typical of such trials. I can find no aspect that made it a show trial. The verdict could have easily swung the other way. Most commentators have actually been a bit dubious about the whole thing because the case depended on being able to convince a jury that there was another crime beyond the falsification of records, so was a bit novel and highly technical since he's never actually been convicted of the other crime. But Trump dug his own grave. He insisted on attacking things that had nothing to with the issues at hand and didn't focus on the technicals of the case. His lawyers were scattered, didn't have meaningful or useful lines of questioning, and the few witnesses they called were utterly useless, maybe even damaging to their own case. Trump and company insulted everyone involved with their words and behavior, which won Trump no points with either the judge or the jury.
