I agree with the “what you consume affects you” theory. I noticed that social media gave me mood poisoning so I quit a lot of it and switched to KZread tutorials instead and have noticed a huge difference in my outlook on life. That’s how I found this channel and recommend it to others. 🥰

I can't even get on Facebook anymore without reading something that somebody in my family says that just makes me sad or mad and wonder how they can not only believe the hateful/ignorant things they say but actually say them to being with. 😮‍💨 I have to stay off Facebook or I'll say something that I would definitely regret.

OMG!!! Katie!! We are meant to be BFFs - only a generation and several states apart. When I was in high school (approximately 1983) I was sad and so wrote a list of 10 things to be happy for. I passed it as a note to a friend. It was passed around my whole school and at the end of the day came back to me and was FILLED - including the margins - of all the things my peers thought were worth including. To this day it is one of my happiest accomplishments.

Lily is so fun to listen to, I love her confidence when she talks about her mama's soap

As someone who works around jellyfish on a weekly basis, can confirm, they're fantastic. We get like three species at the marina where I do my research. Although you should look into comb jellies (Ctenophora) if you're not familiar, we get those as well and they're amazing.

I'm not a fan of jellyfish because I was stung pretty badly by one when I was 8-9yrs old. I do love octopuses though! I can't get over how intelligent they are 🤯

Fun fact. Christopher Timothy played the character of James Herriott in the 1980s British TV show All Creatures Great and Small. It may be on Acorn TV and is well worth a watch it you enjoy the books x

I'm only at 13:07, but it reminds me SO MUCH of these LipSmackers glosses I had when I was a tween. They were dessert scents like "layer cake", mostly pearlescent pastels, and had a large jewel on the lid of the wand. I loved them. I love this soap. So pretty!! Thanks for taking me back, too!

I LOVED layer cake!!! I was only like 8, so no makeup, so it felt pretty special to have.

The removable sleeves are such a good idea! I'm an amateur soap maker, I read a soapmaking blog a while ago where the lady said she used to always wear and recommend long sleeved shirts until she actually spilled raw soap batter on her sleeve and she had to take off her shirt to get it off her arm! I LOVE the James Herriot books!!! Edit: lily's little voice is so cute😂

I so agree on cucumber melon!!! It was one of the first body mist scents I was allowed to have a kid since it was a gentle fragrance and it’s very special to me

I'm honestly so glad you mentioned those sleeves in the beginning cuz I was wondering the other day if there's something I could do for my 3d resin printing instead of slapping on a long sleeve every time I wanna enter my workspace! Long sleeves sure don't feel good in the Texas heat lol.

PLEASE READ: anyone buying the other cucumber melon fragrance (NG Cucumber Melon Type) from Nature's Garden Candle should be aware it has a far lower usage rate than the one Katie is using and can't readily be swapped for the same amount. The NG Cucumber Melon Type fragrance is only soap safe at 0.8%.

The James Herriot books are literally my favourite of all time...I call them 'slipper' books, because they're the book equivalent of a comfy pair of slippers. Christopher Timothy played James Herriot in one of the TV series. Also, should you ever come to England, there's a James Herriot museum in the actual house he used to live in in Thirsk, Yorkshire... It's a fun afternoon and the scenery on the way is amazing :)

I definitely agree this soap is so nostalgic. I never was into cucumber melon, but my little sister was. 90s-early 2000s memories. The sparkle and glitter were excellent ideas.

On the mood correlation thing... Today my trip to the city was cancelled due to a truck being on the train line (only day that didn't have strikes here in the UK) so my brother decided to drive me up to the outskirts of the city. On the way home I had a play list on and he called me out on putting my 'Depression Session' on. I hadn't realised what I had gravitated to as it wasn't intentional. But the fact he picked up on it despite everything was a wake up call to put chirpy stuff on. We had visited the city, albeit the outskirts, but I was greatful.

Lily sounds so cute. She makes her Momma so happy she gives ya the giggles

Lily reminds me so much of my little son! He's 2 and a half and their little voices sound so similar! I love that Lily got to be involved in the cutting! My little buddy become obsessed with soap after we ordered a few bars from you!!

Love how you embrace having your video “interrupted” by your adorable kid. Many would have cut that away, but I really love that part. It shows how it is to be a soap maker and a mom.

Sad melancholy music, books, and movies is what brings me joy in life.

I am the exact same way in the sense that I absorb everything, good or bad. As someone prone to depression, I have to be REALLY careful about what I watch/read/listen to. If I'm reading/watching something, I I notice I start to feel... bleh... I immediately stop. I also use iTunes / Apple Music and I have a Smart Playlist that shows me the top 13 songs that I've been listening to most, and I use that as a gauge for how I'm doing mentally and emotionally. It doesn't even have to be a sad song / happy song, I even take into account the bpm. Because I have learned this and I've started to watch what I intact so closely, I've not had a bad depression spell for months.

I just love when Katies life kind of slips into the videos like with her beautiful little girl talking in the video today and have yall seen her Lily she looks just like her mama. The reason I like it is the wholesomeness of it all. The just good family fun. I love it.

All Creatures Great and Small is one of my mother’s favorites! She would always read those out loud to us. I now have several of his books.

The soap is beautiful and Lilly is adorable. She seems like a little character!

I work at a crisis stabilization unit (ie- people from all walks come in when they’re in a very bad place mentally, need med management, resources, a safe place to sleep, etc. not a psych ward we do NOT use restraints or anything like that. It’s a really great place. Anyway-) and we do “groups” basically group therapy 5 times a day and my favorite opener for the day is called “coffee and gratitude” where we all sit down with our morning coffee or whatever they choose to drink and fill out a paper that asks what made us smile today, what are we looking forward to, what are we grateful for, etc and share if we feel comfortable. It is ALWAYS a hit with the clients, they talk about how nice it is to sit with their hot coffee and really churn over the good parts of their day. You talking about that at around the 11:00 mark reminded me of all my clients I’ve gotten attached to and made me so happy!

A crisis stabilization unit sounds wonderful and far healthier for many people than a psychiatric ward.

Luna (age 3) wants you to know that she loves your nails and I like the soap videos every day. We both are so excited when we get a new video. She also wants you to know we love you every day! We sent a video through insta!

I have been desperately looking for a cucumber melon scent for so long. It’s my absolute favorite. So much nostalgia.

I have to look it up now. I grew up in the olden days when Acorn TV and Brit Box was PBS. All Creatures was my absolute FAVE!!

Hello Katie, with your affection for jellys, there is a video on YT of a display at an aquarium that looks like a giant lava lamp but is filled with jellyfish instead of the waxy substance normally in a lava lamp. I love watching that as it is very relaxing. Hope you are able to find that and watch. I think you will enjoy it immensely.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium here in CA has an amazing jellyfish exhibit. It is dark and peaceful with soothing music playing and the jellyfish just glow and float…I think you would LOVE it!💚💚💚 love your gorgeous jellyfish soap!

Timothy Christopher is a British actor who played James Herriott in a BBC production of All Creatures Great and Small in the late 1970s and 1980s. The books, of course, being autobiographical were written many years earlier. I grew up (in Australia) watching him and now that I live in the UK and there is a new series based on the books, I am learning to love a whole new cast playing the beloved characters. I am so thrilled that you've discovered the stories and are enjoying the reading. I must take your recommendation and listen to them as well!

Its so fun that you're writting down things that you're grateful for! I did that in my sophmore year of college cause i kept feeling really down and in a very negative headspace. It helped me rewire my brain to think and be a bit more positive in my headspace and stuff. Such a good practice even for just a few weeks!

I started making soap as a hobby a few years ago thanks to you! I love watching you and listening to you. You always seem so upbeat and happy. I know you must have hard days too, but you never seem to let them interfere with your videos. I’m grateful that I can watch you.

I tend to use music to digest an emotion I'm going through. If I'm mad at something, I'll listen to music that helps feel cathartic towards that emotion; something in a rock/metal variety. If I'm in a good mood, I'll listen to something a tad more bouncy or something I can half-dance to or at least bob my head to. I don't use music to counteract or get into the mood of the music, I more use it accentuate the mood I'm in or help me cope with it it a negative emotion. I want to safely digest and roll with my emotions instead of fight them or use music to manipulate my mood.

Totally agree cucumber melon is one of my favorite scents as well! Takes me back to eating airheads at summer camp!

A magical glitter wand! Cool!!

One time in the early 2000's I was wearing cucumber melon spray, and I was waiting to be seated at a restaurant when someone in front of me said, "Ugh! It smells like cucumber melon in here!", and I stopped wearing it! Then a couple years ago BBW brought it back and I was so happy because I really missed it!

That turned out beautifully. And I loved hearing your daughter. How sweet that she gets to be with you and you work. 😊

you can use dryer sheets or swiffer sheets to wipe up glitter. One sheet will hold a ton of glitter, which you can then shake out into a container.

Oooh love the colors! Cucumber & Melons is one of my favorites! I love the simple but extremely effective ways that you use to choose joy in your daily life! Music has its way of doing that for me too!

(Book recommendation: LM Montgomery, Jane of Lantern Hill. Pure joy.) Oh, in addition to your gratitude/blessing journal, a self-esteem doctor wrote a program that includes writing down who you hugged each day. It's very mentally and physically healing, and she says if you hug less than three people every day, get hugging to boost your happiness level! 🤣

There are quite a few of us very empathic people (not in a psychic way but in nature) who get second hand emotions and half to actually regulate what we consume. I had this conversation with a friend the other day about how there are certain things I can't be around because it affects me too much. It's part of what made me great at customer service, but also made my jobs in customer service such a mentally exhausting thing.

I love little Lilly. Everytime she is on a video I invite my little one in to my soap shop to talk with me while I work. She just made my day a little happier.
