Dude is a proper artist! I'm in that crowd, and the shit we say about artists we admire/envy sounds... concerning, from the outside. Our feelings are just so BIG and our ambition bigger. I totally get his frustration at not being traditionally trained young, as much as it can hinder you if you let it, there is such a skill gap at the beginning if you weren't. On the other hand, maybe I should be concerned that I know so many people like this lol!

Insanity is a legal plea, not a ICD-10/11 or DSM-5 diagnosis. These are the manuals medical doctors and mental health professionals (in the US) use, RESPECTIVELY. The ICD is international and specifies all disorders including both mental and medical (physical etc). DSM is US specific and is only mental health disorders and more in depth for it's purpose. Both specify shared diagnostic codes which is what is the standard diagnostic system used in the US, this is what insurance uses and accepts
Editing goes hard this vid nice job!
As long as he didn't kill his pet fish, what he did afterwards was still sensible. A grieving boy that wants any tangible remaining part of his friend to not be discarded away, to semi-permanently preserve his friend in a type of their fusion. I wouldn't do it, but it made sense.

38:08 Drawing inspiration from multiple cultures instead of just your own will boost your creativity and originality when you create works. There are studies supporting this claim where working together to produce something with diverse walks of life instead of just a culturally homogenous population produces more subjectively different and/or original works.
the fact that Fujimoto is so strange yet successful gives me hope that I can find a place to make my art authentically and find success
His early art is way better than what I can make
This is a great video bro, i remember discovering chainsawman a month or two before the anime was announced and i was just in shock at how dope it was. i found that it intrigued me just as much as when i first found tokyo ghoul with how interesting and unique it was. many points you touched on also even stood out to me on a personal level, especially showcasing the determination fujimoto had to just create his work. as someone who just graduated from art school and is anxious about getting into the real world, im trying to find how i can still enjoy creating art before it becomes something monotonous that i do as job. who knows. maybe im weird by being motivated and inspired by someone who’s definitely a straight up weirdo. but nonetheless, great video man

Nah man, even if it is a persona, something is wrong with you to make that your persona. Especially when you're doing it in a place where you know people can't tell if it is or isn't. A persona is still expression. You can wear a mask to hide your face, but the mask you choose when and why still says something about the person who chose it. Sometimes people put all of the things they're not brave enough to be into a persona, and it gives them the confidence to do shit they'd never otherwise do. I'll put it this way. I respect him as an artist, but I don't wanna meet him.

my brain is justifying this by saying Fujimoto almost certainly has some form of OCD. as someone with OCD, countless times i've made threats in my head to myself as a way to motivate myself (e.g. if I don't do this, i'll do xyz [that i don't want to do]). i don't think he wanted to kill the people for the sake of murder, but more likely he didn't want to kill them so he used his fear to motivate himself to improve, something not too uncommon with things like OCD. i don't really know about the eating the pet fish, but it sounds similar to a lot of intrusive thoughts (NOT to be confused with impulsive thoughts) i've had in the past. i'm thinking he might've been in a bad mental state due to his pet fish dying and so gave in to his intrusive thoughts and ate his fish, or maybe he had a kind of manic episode where he believed eating his fish would prevent him from having to part ways with the fish. considering he grew up as the 'weird kid' with little to no friends, he was most likely very lonely so maybe he had some kind of attachment to his pet fish since it was one of his only companions. OCD and intrusive thoughts also do in a way help for more morbid kinds of inspiration for creative works, which i think is more than clear in Fujimoto's works, especially Fire Punch. like said in the video, the ideas in Fire Punch had to be thought up of or inspired to be used in the work. i think it's more than likely that if my theory of Fujimoto having OCD or some other similar disorder/condition is correct, at least a few of his more morbid ideas have originally stemmed from intrusive thoughts. as a person with diagnosed OCD, i've gotten a few story ideas in the past inspired by intrusive thoughts i've had. intrusive thoughts aren't fun in the slightest, but at least there's some kind of benefit for creative people who struggle with them (?) didn't mean to psychoanalyse but it just is a bit upsetting to see things like symptoms of OCD and other mental conditions and disorders which are essentially harmless to people other than those with the actual conditions be demonized and immediately labelled as "psychopathic". i hate to call it ableist, but i know it's just a result of not understanding, misinformation and social stigma and whatnot. i don't think Fujimoto is a psychopath or sociopath, i think he's just another person who struggles mentally who was able to use and channel his struggles into his creative works to create something new. i think Fujimoto is just a lot more open than most neurodivergent people are with his more 'socially unacceptable' thoughts and ideas
