That line taken out of context from Dragon Ball is amazing Just in case anyone is curious (I believe it's Trunks, I haven't seen the anime in a while) says to not shoot Goku because he's not Goku Black (Which is an evil version of Goku). But that line taken out of context sounds so racist

When they release an original concept, it almost never does well. They either have shitty luck or they're directly screwing up the shows.

OOPArt actually stands for "Out Of Place Artifact" which is a real archeological term for items discovered in locations or strata that defy explanation. (Ex: Egyptian hieroglyphics carved into a rock in Australia, a gold necklace encased in a coal deposit, etc). These usually turn out to be hoaxes, misidentified natural objects, or have some other plausible explanation.

This reminds me of a line I read in a very snarky Kimba 1996 review blog once where they covered the badly translated subtitles, I'm never going to find that page again as this was over a decade ago, and all I remember out of it is "The hello thinks desperately of goodbye". Which is what line reminded me of and pardon me while I sit here giggling all over again. I love bad translations/obvious statements like this.

Ex-Arm has got to be one of the anime of all time. In fact, it was arguably one of the anime that was released in the past couple of years. The story and art direction are certainly done to a degree, and theres no doubt that the animators animated it.

the backgrounds are super lazy, most of the time its only characters on screen. backgrounds are: Black void, Gradient void, dark room with tiles, single color wall with tiles, same image shaken infront of the camera multiple times to show any kind of location

Usually it's hard to tell when Charlie has emotion, but it sounds like he's monotone-ing harder somehow.

Ex arm is what happens when you take the most mid-tier sci-fi manga storyline you can think of and have it adapted by a team that has no idea what they’re doing and insufficient time and money to do it. It is easily one of my favorite shows across genres. You’d think they’d do something right by accident, but there is not a single positive aspect to the show other than the sheer magnitude of its failure. God bless Ex Arm.

It blows my mind that Crunchyroll, whose roots date all the way back to being an illegal anime streaming site, to becoming legal and one of the only places that legitimately gains exclusive rights to stream dubbed versions of new series the same time they air in JP. But despite that, Crunchyroll wouldn't know what a good anime looks like until it becomes a mainstream phenomenon. They've consistently produced the worst animes known to man. They are in contact with titans of the industry (attack on titan pun intended) and yet can't make a good anime if their life depended on it, not to mention their budget, which should be larger than the smallest anime studios in JP that still manage to produce some cult hits. I never liked Crunchyroll, even back during it's illegal streaming days, they had the worst website design and they named themselves after a type a sushi, which has nothing to do with anime and just proves they were a bunch of japanese obsessed nerds. It actually blows my mind. Proof that self-proclaiming yourself to be an "Otaku" is cringe.

Technically, there is no Crunchyroll anymore. That would like still be calling Konami, Konami. Technically while, on the books, it's Crunchyroll that bought Funimation, the actual truth is more like Crunchyrool aquired them so they can BE them. All their staff is now Funimation's staff, all their VA talent is now Funimation's talent, and all their producers are Funimation's producers. Crunchyrool seemed to buy another company so that company could run their own division in name, while they all go off and retire somewhere. So technically, Crunchyroll is now Funimation, they're just keeping the name Crunchyroll (like that means anything).

Yet everything that proudly flaunts the crunchyroll banner have been trainwrecks. If they're all the same company, they need to get rid of whoever is running the crunchyroll division.

I love the thought of Charlie settling in, watching this thing, then crawling into bed and turning everything off... then just hours of restlessness, utterly robbed of the sleep he would have had, forcing him to get back up and feverishly cobble together this video, like someone in a horror movie desperately doing the zany ritual required to break a very specific curse.

I am still so fucking embarrassed that they censored a kissing scene... in an anime where suicide bombings take place... where they attempt to get real topical about technology and social collapse. Goodspeed to the lines of crack the animators snorted between frames.

Eh, the kissing was just for crappy fan service. Like why the fuck have kissing be the way where genetic code is harvested while you could just drool on something. Because if in the future kissing was used to harvest genetic code, a lot of people would be squicked out.

Putting 2D and 3D elements in one scene still caughts me off guard, Robo Fighter Barbie is 3D while Generic Suicide Bomber is 2D. EX-arm truly innovates Animation to a whole new level, I can only give praise to the gorillas who learned to animate this piece of work.

You can have 2D and 3D elements work very well in a scene (Hellsing Ultimate using 3D for gun closeups, or plenty of studios using 3D for backgrounds). The problem is having some characters who are 2D and some who are 3D… who came up with this shit? Like pick one broski

OOPArt is an actual term. It means "out of place artifact", as in, an ancient artifact that is way too advanced for the time period/civilization it's found in.

@@mikloridden8276 the antikythera mechanism is a popular one. Maybe even the most popular one. I think sometimes stuff like the "phone" or "bike" imagery in ancient artifacts is also considered oop. Quoted because we don't actually know what those things are, they just look similar to stuff we have now. Oop isn't necessarily too advanced for the time either. It can also be things that are seemingly in a place that they shouldn't be. Like there are artifacts found in ancient ruins that appear to be from cultures that, as far as we know, never should have interacted.

Disclaimer: Please distance this abomination of an anime from the source material. The Author and Artist did an incredible job with the manga but Crunchyroll got their grubby hands on the anime adaption rights. Ex-Arm should get a proper adaptation and this Crunchy-bomination should sink into obscurity.

For the suicide bombings line, the actual japanese is "自爆テロなんて間違っている" which roughly translates to " terrorist bombs are wrong". So it's just the subtitle people changing it.

You disappointed me for the last time cr1tikal. So quick to misjudge one of if not the best anime to ever grace our forsaken planet. Where do i even begin? The animation is so smooth and well produced you can see how much passion and effort was put into it, some might call it the best cgi they have ever seen, it will stand the test of time as the best piece of animated enternainment to ever entertain. The story is so well written by masterfull, highly professional, godlike people that speaks not only to our hearts but it goes even deeper and touches our minds, it makes us think about the future, present and past while, at the same time, being a critique to society, what it could achieve and what it could destroy as such a disruptive behaviour might imply an increase in technology advancment but a decline in human morals. Doesn’t matter your gender, race, where you were born, or if you put milk before cereal in the morning, after watching this movie you will reach true enlightenment and no piece of animation will ever satisfy you as much as this absolute work of art. This will stand the test of time as the magnum opus of humanity itself and it will change the future of animation as we know it, in fact i’d argue it already did.

There's a handful of good CGI anime that put these careless productions to shame. An outstanding, extremely underrated example of what anime studios could do with CGI is Houseki no Kuni or Land of the Lustrous. The 3-D animation done by studio Orange is gorgeous and the premise it follows from the ongoing manga is executed beautifully. I can't recommend it enough.

Initial D (3rd & 4th stage) and Wangan Midnight, they may not having the best story around but those anime we're sure is a CGI feast at it's core

For eyebleach from this garbage, directors such as Watanabe, Yuasa, Miyazaki, Yamamoto, Natsume, Imaishi, Kon, Hosoda, Koike, Okada, Ichikawa, Araki, and Miura are all creators of incredible art. Also, land of the lustrous, dorohedoro, lupin iii the first, and tron uprising show what cg anime can do if they were given budget, time, and talent.

Inverting the pitch of helicopter blades to fly upside down is a real thing. At least for RC helicopters, i could see this actually working IRL. At the very least it is based on something that could work. Idk if real size helicopters can do this maneuver, but considering RC ones can, its not too crazy to assume that it could happen in a futuristic world. Them being right about inverting the pitch makes me assume they have looked into it.

OOParts stands for Out of Place Artifacts which in reality is just when artifacts are found in places they dont seem to belong because evidence points to them originating elsewhere or they seem too advanced for the time they are dated for. The Yugioh archtype Chronomaly (chrono anomaly) is based on the irl versions of these objects.

I always feel really bad for the voice actors involved in projects like this. There's no way they had any ide just how terrible it was going to be.

So like I’m just thinking- if the body hits the ground with enough force couldn’t the bomb detonate? But of course I’m no physicist because I didn’t know about negative blade pitch

The concept for the MC is kind interesting, where the MC is a digital being stuck inside machines and trying to help those outside. That is the only good thing I can say about this show.

I was about to post that I haven't seen CGI this bad since the Reboot Era but then I realized that the characters at least emoted in that show and the thought alone made this even more sad.

When the guy gets shot, there’s a short(but not short enough to not be uncomfortable) part where you can see the purple line on the bullet. Next frame, the guy just fucking disappears

It’s not that hard to make a futuristic helicopter design. Just take AG-S from Wipeout 3 and move the cockpit to the front and add some helicopter components
