I got a Simplifier MKII a few months back. I've done about 10 gigs with it and it's done everything I need. It's also awesome for at-home practicing. I've decided to commit to it for a whole year. That oughtta be around 50-100 shows. If anybody is interested, I'll report back here and let y'all know how it went :)

Great video. You've nailed what I think a lot of people miss when they complain about this pedal and a perceived lack of functionality or 'options'. No, it doesn't simulate a thousand different amps and effects at the touch of a button. That's not what it's meant for. It's not an amp modeler, it's literally an amp, one amp, in a box. It's meant to be a pure analog replacement of your tube amp with all the feel of the original, so that you can keep your whole setup, still use your pedals etc. And I think it does that job exceptionally well.

I recently tried several different modelers and this is the unit I ended up getting. It feels like I'm using a real amp, and the feel is incredibly important. Some of the other modelers sound great but it just doesn't feel right, so I don't enjoy it as much. With the Simplifier, plus some fx, I literally can set it and play for days and be a happy camper.

Loved the sound and feel of the unit, I had. Sold it, simply because I struggled to read the labeling, even with reading glasses on (yup, it’s come to that) 😳

I’ve been using the mk1 and now the mk2 for about a year now. It’s great for a portable practice solution and for church. I never hardly use my Mesa Fillmore anymore. That being said, you opened my eyes to a few new ways to get sounds on here. Thanks for this!

Awesome review and great recap of what this pedal's goal is: a simple analog amp! I have the MKII since it came out, and after trying out the CabM+ or the HX Stomp, what i love about this white box is that it's simple: what you see is what you get! As you suggest, it's a set and forget amp, fine-tune the base tone you like and then use it as a pedal platform. You are at a gig and need some quick tweakings, just twist a few knobs, it's super easy. And all those connectivity options (DI, bypass cab sim, routing...) makes this a great swiss army knife, use it at home for recording, play live directly in a PA, or send your sound to your tube amp and the PA at the same time... it's that easy! Thank you for this demonstration. I have been looking at modellers and amp simulators on and off for quite a while now (and getting a bit confused and unsure what to purchase - yes I am also someone who does not want to fiddle around with lots of different amps and programmed effects) so what you said about it being primarily a unit for setting to a base tone you like and then add pedals to obtain the additional desired sounds/effects, I was really able to identify that this is what I am looking for. So thanks again for this clear and informative video. Cheers.

I have the 1st version and have used it for playing live direct. It's good to have as a backup for your amp too.

Great review Corey. LOVE that this has Eminence speaker modeling on it! Everything has Celestions but I just love the Eminence sound, so nice to see that option here. With true amp feel, knobs and no menus to have to fiddle with, gonna have to strongly consider this (damn!) 😅

I love mine, is very versatile,easy to use and it sounds great.

I’m going have to try one. I’ve tried various units, and have found the technology great. I still come to the point of having to program them when a couple of knobs twist is all that’s needed. Reckon I’ll check one out. I may not need 127 program/presets.

Maybe the best pedal I ever sold (ver 1). Definitely wished I hadn't. Just has best sounds all out of 1 box. Need nothing but a power amp and speakers with this.

I was on the fence to get this, then the Opus appeared, then the IR-2. Got the latter cause price point and more convenient FX loop.

I love this thing. But I have never owned a tube amp or any modular amp components. So when it comes to the power amp simulator, I don’t really mess with it because I don’t know what I am listening for. Other than that, it is basically a perfect tool for me.

Corey I love you arpeggio video you made the dominant seventh it’s helped me a lot I was wondering if you could teach a solo to the beat and rhythm of feeling all right by Joe Cocker I got to come up with one in my band I’m kind of new at this

There is all the truth to what a tube amp feels like and sounds like when you are playing it and hearing it 'In The Room' as a guitar player. However, no one else hears it like this. Live everyone hears it through the PA or differently if not mic'd depending on where they are relative to said amp. Recordings are mic'd, EQ'd, and mixed so it never sounds the same in the mix. So, I'm torn because I'm looking at the Boss IR-2, Boss IR-200, or the deluxe version of this to have my pedal board built around. I just want great sounds coming out to record direct...I don't care if it sounds 'like' something else, just want great sounds!

Wowzers! That's a lot of analog simulation amp drive for only 150mA of power consumption.

Once again, thanks Corey for that demo ! I bought the MKII to play only with headphones. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get those kind of crunch/ overdrive tones. What did I miss ? I'm still looking for that kind of plug and play device.

Thx! On any unit like this, turning the gain up and master down will help you get more overdriven and distorted tones.

Have you tried this with cabsim bypassed into the Ox Stomp?

Definitely a maybe . Hard to go from tube amps to a pedal sized amp but if the price is right….

How realistic does this thing sound? I remember reading that the 1st Gen version has a very “direct” kind of tone to it. Is that the case with the mk2?

Anyone know where the stereo effects loop sits in the signal flow. I want to just use the power amp and cab sim in stereo without using the preamp section. Is the effects return before the power amp section or after? Thanks to anyone who can answer this.

This has more bells and whistles but Tech 21 has been doing analog "modeling" for years with their SansAmp Character series of pedals.

and this box give you LOTS of HEADROMN, which most of the other amp sim does not have, they all get distorted so easily.

Seems pretty cool. If only they'd included some means of saving settings, so you can change it without having to knob around.

Does "all analogue" mean transisters, like a transister amplifier? What makes this any better than any other transister amp?

They're both pretty different in my opinion. The simplifier feels better. It also has A LOT of I/O options. The IR2 does have the ability to interface to your computer which is interesting. There are more amp sounds in the IR2 and has the channel switching option.

That particular iPhone is larger than some Android tablets, so "smaller than an iPhone" is a bit misleading. How does its size compare to standard Hammond enclosures? There's a true spring reverb pedal that isn't much larger than the Simplifier Mk II. Don't get me wrong, the Simplifier is an impressive bit of kit, but if they had gone just a couple inches longer (that's what _she_ said) it wouldn't need any of that digital rubbish.
