@nintendrew I wanted to ask a question I'm having issues with my new TV my old one I had a controller plugged in my shield to hdmi one with headphones. When I switched hdmi signals I still heard the audio from the shield controller through headphones but with the new TV when I switch hdmi signals the sound cuts off the previous hdmi so I can't hear sound through shield headphones please help

Does this work with an Xbox 360?

The highest quality I can set my phone to is 720P. I can still easily spot the difference with all but two of the games that he showed. Truly amazing

Well you're not wrong. we only got a remaster of Super Mario Galaxy 1. (The game already looks amazing so it's not that bad that it didn't get a remake) it kinda sucks for the Super Mario Galaxy 2 fans, since it's still only playable on a Wii or Wii U, and the only way to make it look nicer is either use Emulation, or use an mClassic with a Wii U.

Glad I found your channel. I enjoy your positivity and when you take time to explain things in detail which a lot of others would skip over. You have a good thing going here.

This thing is pretty amazing, Skyward Sword really looked much cleaner and easier on the eyes, I definitely will be buying one of these fo shizzle. One of the great ways this tech could be used is in laptops, getting a decent serving of AA, decent upscaling, overall improved visual fidelity for no performance penalty would be ideal for a gaming laptop, they could even licence the tech to T.V and monitor manufactures. Maybe even Nintendo could implement it into the next Switch somehow, both in portable mode and docked mode, you could really use this tech to great effect with something like the Switch or any console for that matter.

Would be really cool if they made a 4k upscaler in the future, that upscaled everything to 4k with the improvements.

I got one and use it with my Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360 via an HDMI splitter. While it’s a pretty subtle change, it does help with making the image sharper and smoothing out some jagged pixels on the screen. My Wii benefits from it the most since the M-Classic upscales it to HD-like graphics. I don’t recognize any latency issues or lag either.

I just got this in my Indiegogo inbox. When I was watching the video they had yours was right there!

I love the backdrops on these channels. This dude's game collection is fire. That's goals for me right there.

I understand that you can only use the cables you have. But with a higher quality cable, you will get a better image for the mcable to process. Right now it just processes blurry unsharp images. SNES games via a scart cable will look much better than the composite you used and will also give a much better result. Perhaps this video is meant more for a general retro game fan who does not have all this equipment. But if you own a retrotink and this mcable, then you're already in the price range of an OSSC so you might as well go further. On the other hand, when you show of the gamecube stuff, then the video gets interesting. Then it actually gives the mcable a high quality signal to work with and shows of it's true potential.

@@Shark97281 While I dont personally have one, I can say I have seen perfect dark and donkey kong 64 running with the Eon Super 64, so it is fairly safe to say Majoras Mask will also run fine with it

IMO, the best way to play the PS2 is on a CRT. Most games were just designed to play on that type of display. I recommend My Life In Gaming's video "how to get the best picture from your PS2" if you want to know more.

Doom Guy PS2 will always be best played on a CRT, as most games support 480i maximum. Some support 480p, but 480p never looks that good as it has to be scaled unless you are using a 480p native TV. 480p is really annoying as 480p LCD’s don’t really exist anymore, meaning you’ll need to use a pretty old LCD, which unfortunately means you’ll have pretty poor black levels. A 480p CRT won’t have to scale and will have perfect black levels, but they can’t handle 480i properly, meaning you’ll need another giant CRT for 480i, wasting more space than a 480p LCD.

Try setting the resolution to 720p, it will upscale it to full 4K. Setting it at 1080p will only put it at 2K.

Seemed too good to be true at first but skyward sword looks great on it.

So you CAN connect it to an hdmi switch box and convert everything at once!..I would still need the super 64 though so I can connect n64 to my switch box...but I'd also be eliminating composite cables from composite switch box...I think I'm going to re think my entire retro set up.

What I would really like is a XBRZ filter sitting right after the Nvidia (or AMD) driver's output doing the post-processing on the fly. I've seen what the XBRZ tech can do for DOS games running on DOSBox, and it's awesome, much better results than with M's tech.

Works with the Retrotink? At the end of an HDMI switch? Well it looks like I saved an untold amount of money already! TAKE MY MONEY!

It is exactly the same as those filters. This is just a stick with a few upscaling filters built in. For pixel based games, you get a smear effect, but for polygon based games it's not like anti aliasing. OSSC can still benefit from an upscaling filter for these games, though of course that's a matter of opinion.

Great review. Video nerd note: you could probably use its full processing mode and then tell your display that it's a 4:3 signal! My projector has 3 aspect modes, Full, 16/9, and 4/3, as well as Auto. So when I'm using a GCHD, I can force 4/3. That same behavior will work on this adapter's output, but only in full processing mode. That retro mode seems broken for more than one reason. Let's say that for example you're watching 4:3 HD content, like some older cartoons on Amazon or Blu-Ray, the recent Batman remaster, or some Disney cartoons, whatever. The video output is still 1920x1080, 16/9, with a centered 1440x1080 4/3 image. English: The black bars are part of the image itself. 720x480 SD digital video should have an aspect flag. Should, lol. I know the GCHD gives you a fair bit of control for aspect settings. It's unfortunate that if those flags are properly set, that the mClassic is ignoring them, but like you said, the real crime is that it's not forcing the input to be recognized with non-square pixels in retro mode. Perhaps they wanted to focus on SD output, and not necessarily 4:3 output, and someone missed a memo. If it isn't doing any different processing, they'd be better served just making it an aspect ratio switch. And of course, on a lot of TVs you can still force 4:3 yourself, although you're doing that after it takes non-square pixels, makes them even wider, and then you manually squish them back down - it will only look as good as your TV's scaler.

Just ordered one for my Wii U. Really hoping this solves the poor image quality on Wii games played on backward compatibility. I've always said that decent anti aliasing would go a long long way to making the Wii gaming experience more pleasant. As it is, it's pretty horrific. I've always wondered why I find the Original Xbox good but not the Wii, and as this shows, it's the lack of the post processing on the Wii. The Wii has to be Nintendo at their laziest.

@@chadmiller4814 The mclassic works best on the Wii U with Wii games. Except for RE4, because I think the colours are complex in the village etc. It can't detect what to improve. But yeah, on every console I've tried, the Wii U /Wii is the only one it make significant difference. Well worth it. I have a huge collection of Wii games anyway. Doesn't work on the PS2, because the graphics are too muddy, it can't detect a thing. Original Xbox doesn't really need it, and it even doesn't help the Game Cube much, not sure why. But it works amazingly well for Wii games on the Wii U. And Wii games needs it the most anyway imo.

Yes that should be good like that, the cable can handle most sub-1080p resolutions.

Looks like the release version will have the firmware updated for the Retromode aspect ration issue (Thanks to your review actually.) They have noted it has been corrected to force 4:3 on their indiegogo.

Both should work but it depends on the resolution and the console, some OSSC formats (e.g. 960p or 720p SNES) can be weird and might not work with the cable or your TV, but more normal consoles like Saturn and PS1 or N64 will work just fine I think. If the higher resolutions are less compatible, you can always try 480p mode as that should be compatible for almost any TV.

the wii was my childhood, the very first game i ever played and my number 1 favorite game is "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" and one of my favorite games is "Super Mario Galaxy" I am in tears just getting nostalgia, and seeing my 2 favorite games in HD 1080p/1440p is amazing! Nintendo need to make "TLoZ: SS Remastered" in the switch...

It might be a while before CRT technology returns. The tubes themselves aren't really made anymore, despite the fact they can be HDMI-compatible. It's an untapped market as of now.

I got the og m cable like days before I learned about the m classic. At first I thought it was just a version meant to deal with lower resolutions like 480i & 240p, didin't expect a full upgrade. My Tv doesn't support 1440p however, so I'm only slightly butt hurt.

How do you get your Wii to work with the m classic?

You'll probably need to buy a third-party hdmi adapter for your wii, and then connect the mclassic to this adapter.

ah good, i forgot i was waiting for this video. i saw your post E3 video like a day before heading to Retro Game Fest in Austin, Texas and i got to looking forward to this little device. all in all it seems a far better use of it would be for Wii/Gamecube stuff as it shows far better there(wait, when was there ever an hdmi cable/adapter for the wii?). actually Hyperkin was at the Con with an N64 hdmi adapter that just came out and it was kind of funny. in the example of Mario 64 i was shown it can either try to give you a more pixel perfect-like look or smooth it out. the smoothed edges just made Mario's body look all wiggly when standing around. i think that was due to the edges only being covered as opposed to being blurred(thats the best way i can think to describe). long story short there, as far as i have seen, the N64 UltraHDMI mod is far nicer looking and the more i see nothing compares to it yet the more im glad i got it 6 months ago. maybe this thing could make it look nicer? even then i believe the whole ai upscale thing, cuz ive messed with a good quality free one recently a month ago and ive been seeing a very familiar "paint stroke like" style to the images it modifies. i first heard of this application for the FF9 fan mod to make its backgrounds look better since the originals were lost, now that ive seen the mod in action ive been seeing that familiar style. when you were showing Mario 64 zoom ins i noticed it a bit on his face, i myself will give this a pass for now until an improved version comes out. it already takes an amount of work for the ai to redraw one image depending on the size and resolution, but this is it on the fly and it seems to be of slightly less quality. although i guess it'd be better to see it in person, but that'd be VERY hard to do right now. yes you put the differences in the video, sadly some quality is always lost during the upload.

The "after" Screen have framerate issues. It's easy noticeable if you compare it with the left. Not just look on graphics alone, guys. It's best seen on 7:17 if you look at the swinging thing in the background and how it "stops" moving.

That was an issue with my capture card which wasn't apparent until the video was rendered. My apologies!

This thing looks absolutely fantastic when paired with either the EON Super 64 or the Retrotink device. This combo today gives my favorite video output to HDMI from the original N64 console. It's plug and play and you don't have to do a more expensive mod to your console. In fact, I don't like the look of the newest Ultra HDMI mod because the de-blur that it does sounds good in thought but does not look as good as the line doubling and smoothing that the items I mentioned provide.

I really don't get why you think it's blurry, for all the games shown to me it just looked the same or crisper

This device is no "upscaling" squat, it is just applying an anti-aliasing filter.
