FYI, if you create a mold that didn’t work out or one that is no longer acceptable, chop it up into small pieces use it as filler around a new mold pour, you’ll use less mold making materials and great way to recycle silicone. I believe there are people on YT who demonstrate this. Someone showed me in a class I took yrs ago.

I think it has to be the same kind and brand right? Or can I use any?
Whenever I see one of your videos, my creativity flows. I am grateful for your videos, which are consistently innovative, creative and sweet. Keep up the awesome content.TY!! 🤩🙌👏
I’m just jumping in here 👋 Robert Tolone channel.. he’s been making molds as a professional for 50ish years. The past few months he’s been doing a lot of 3D printing so scroll back a little bit. But yah.. he has sooo much knowledge & super friendly. Just the tips & tricks in each video are amazing to gather. Thanks for sharing.. idk how I landed on your video 😂 Edit: Lia Dia.. I’m already subbed! Lmbo 🤣. I thought your voice sounded familiar.
Hi Nadia. Great idea with cookies cutter. My advice is when you have ready mold I would pour thin layer of silicone at the bottom so it will level and cover all irregularities.

Thank you what a great idea. I have bags and bags full of cookie cutters. I’ve collected a lot of them over the years some pretty unique so I’m going to use your method and I really appreciate you doing this. You’re a smart cookie.❤️
I MUST GIVE THIS FANTASTIC MOLD IDEA A TRY~ THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Great to see you experimenting to save all of us from having to figure it out! Thanks so much for sharing. It turned out beautifully and I will definitely be trying this for myself! ♥️♥️🇦🇺
very nice 😀i would pour just a little bit more silcone for the base so you will fill that gab

I have those cookie cutters from a Sophie and Toffee kit. I set the cookie cutters down on tape, put another smaller cookie cutter inside and poured resin between the two. I made some nice ornaments to hang and I made shakers out of a few. You made lovely molds. i had not thought of making molds of these. I used these as the molds. (I used silicone cake pans to pour resin by the way. Just as protection in case of leaks.) You could put pictures on the resin shapes. Terrific holiday ornaments.
This was just the video I needed. Thanks!
I love making my own molds. I haven’t made many, but it’s always exciting to use them, I’m like a kid in a candy store when demolding them lol I like how this turned out. Thank you for sharing

That’s a great technique for a hollow form, especially if you’re planning on doing a top coat anyway. I commented on your last mold making video and added all the tips that I’d discovered while researching the topic. It ended up being a long comment😆 I hope it didn’t come across as sounding critical, if I did; I’m sorry for that.. I was really just trying to include everything I could think of before I fell asleep.😂 It was late.😵💫🤣 I’m not a professional mold maker either but, I did learn quite a bit about it and just wanted to share that info. Thanks for sharing your experiment, I’d call that a definite success!

What a wonderful idea! I have that cookie cutter and was trying to figure out how it could be used for making Christmas ornaments. I was going to use clay, but would prefer resin. Thank you! You really are an inspiration with your videos. Please don’t listen to those negative people.

Once I was making a mold and ran out of silicone. It took 2 day to get more. Finished out the mold with new silicone and it worked out great. You pushed the cutter into silicone. Try not doing that the only thing is you would need to add weight to cutter so no leaks. Great job. hugs Sheryl 💙🎨💙

Yes I think I pressed it down too far and now I have a thin lip I have to use a deburring tool. Okay if you only have one item but I have 12. Lol. And didn't realise I should trim them when resin hasn't cured.
Very cool! The possibility are endless! Don’t worry about what “professionals” think, I’m sure they have had plenty of trials and errors.
I was wondering how using a cookie cutter to make a mold would work. Now I know. Thank you!

Hi Nadia, your mild turned out beautifully and that purple is gorgeous ♥️. If you use packing tape and place the cookie cutter on top of it, (contact paper, works also), you then go around the edge of cookie cutter with hot glue, to properly seal it. You can then pour resin, inside the cookie cutter, to the depth you want, with This will then be your blank resin piece, to make all future silicone molds from. I hope this helps and is easy to understand. I love your art and your channel. ♥️🙏💐💐💐💐♥️
@LiaDiaDesigns

Thank you Fiona. 😊 I've never tried to pour resin into a metal object that I then needed to remove, as it seems resin sticks decently well to metal. But maybe with mold release that could work. Definitely a possibility with plastic molds that flex. In any case, it's an interesting idea💕
@lorriedooley

Great idea. You could also cut polymer clay with the cutter, bake it, and use that as your blank for mold making.
I think this video and all your others are wonderful. I think you are very talented and much appreciate you. Thank you
Maybe use tape or rubberband to hold down the cutter.
Hi Nadia, WOW my goodness I really loved the way your mold turned out loved the shape to buy a mold in that shape costs a lot so thank you so much for sharing your wonderful ideas I really appreciate you taking the time to share 👍❤️🙂 Lin

Hi I liked your tutorial, I have a question I have a round coaster made out of wood about 5 mm thick I like to make a mold out of it, can I use the same method or pour the silicon straight over and make a mold? Please let me know what you think I should do. thank you
If you made the resin in clear, could it be used as a stamping block for silicon stamps?
Thanks for sharing. Where are the stickers from? I looked, couldn’t find the link.🙏🏼
Great video. Do you have a suggestion on how to make a silicone mold of a crab shell? The body only. I use crab shells for my seascape shadowboxes and can't always make it to the beach to collect them so I thought making a crab mold would be great. Any help is appreciated.
I have some clear , I’m gonna color it . Something about a boring clear mold doesn’t go well with me 😂
OMG that is a gorgeous purple. May I ask what color that is and where you got it?
@LiaDiaDesigns
Жыл бұрын
Thank you💕 it's a custom mix I made for another project and I used the leftover in this pour.
I think you may have been able to avoid the indent.by waiting until the silicone was fully cured before adding it and adding the second layer
@LiaDiaDesigns
Жыл бұрын
Yes, maybe! Someone commented that you can add another layer of silicone even days later! So I'll try that on my next mold😊
All you have to do is use mold release when you pour silicone on silicone. I would try it out on a mold you don't care about first to see if your mold release works. That's a gorgeous color and shape.
@LiaDiaDesigns

Interesting...What would the mold release do? From everything I've heard/ read... silicone seems to stick to silicone without any additional products...

I'm here to tell ya it doesn't work if you don't use the spray or something, I ruined one of my silicone cups BC I just poured straight silicone in my cup.
Ooh, the possibilities! Please excuse me if someone already asked... did you just put the cutter in with no coating (naked😉)? Thx for the demo 😻.

I haven't made a mold yet but I want to. I was wondering, how can I make a mold from a glass item? What does the glass item have to be coated with? Do I use a spray, vaseline, plastic wrap or something else?
@LiaDiaDesigns
Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried molding a glass piece yet, but I would think you wouldn't need to coat it at all.. silicone doesn't stick to glass, so you should be fine to use as is... just be sure to clean the glass from oils or fingerprints

Hey Donna, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact mix for this... I haven't yet found "the perfect purple" pigment, so I tend to mix a bunch of colours to make a purple I like.
I was wondering, how would wood shapes turn out using silicone?
@LiaDiaDesigns
Жыл бұрын
I think it would work... but the silicone will keep any grain and rough edges in the mold... so if that's the look you want, that would be perfect
